There were then 125 members in our class. XV e were indeed fresh Freshmen. But as the year wore on we became accustomed to our new studies and duties and soon were as much at home as the upper classmen. On Arbor Day, the lligh School students, under the direction of Mr. Carl Neumiller, Head of the Department of Forestry of the Lehigh Navigation Coal Co., planted trees on Phillips Street. We planted, on the south side, both the east and west extremities of the street. In our Sophomore year, the publication of the High School paper, The Orange and Black was discontinued in favor our Year Book, The Stentor. Steve Polansky, one of our classmates had the honor of naming the book. Our class assisted with the planting of a hedge around the High School and adjoining athletic field. During this year, an operetta, Chonita, directed by Miss Alma McLean, was produced. A large number of our class participated in this production. We: spent quite a happy and eventful Sophomore Year. Our junior Year began with everyone much wiser and more intelligent, I hope, than in previous years. This year passed quite swiftly. Many Juniors helped to make successes of the two Minstrels which the Sales Club held. On May 26, we had our Junior Prom. ' The music was supplied by Os Werley's Orchest-ra. lt was indeed a successful affair. Then-we became Seniors. My how swiftly those first three high school years had passed. There were eighty-nine of us. Eighty-nine starting on the last lap of our journey. We ran an Autumn Dance, decorating the gym with autumn leaves. This was another success to our credit. In january, the Senior Play, Poor Father! , a farce comedy was given. It was entertaining and interesting. Our Senior Ball, held after Easter in the gymnasium, was the outstanding social event of the season. All good things have to end sometime. Thus, four of the most interesting years of our lives end with Graduation. What does the Future hold? Band As the present school year has about come to a close, it may he well to give the students of Coaldale High School a few facts concerning the Music Depart- ment and our Band. The Band first was organized during the month of October, 1930, with an enrollment of one hundred thirty-five students. The first engagement was played in front of the High School, on Armistice Day. The first concert was played May 6, 1931. The first graduating class had in it five original members of the hand. Since that time, the band has played 59 concerts, participated in 39 parades, played at a large number of our foot-hall and basket-hall games, taken part in two music contests, one military funeral and a score of local affairs. The enrollment of the Senior Band has never been below 100 members. At present the band is equipped with a full-dress military uniform. During the 1933-'34 school year the concert hand was placed on a par with the hest school bands in the state. This organization was recruited from the best material in the school. During the present year the Band recruited three Drum lX'lajors who add a great deal of pep and precision when on parade. STENTOR First Row: .T. Hol'l'nmn, Kleppilms-1', F. Davis, Horn. A. Appreciation We, the class of 1935 feel that we cannot leave Coaldale lligh School as graduates without expressing words of appreciation for the various ways in which many persons have contributed to the success of our school careers. First, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to our parents who have, in many cases. sacrificed that we might remain in school and receive a full, twelve years' education. We are deeply indebted to our teachers who by their sympathetic and uue- ceasing efforts have done their best to educate us and to create in us a sincere love of learning. To Mr. Gildea and Mr. Moser, who have never tired in their efforts to better the facilities and conditions of our high school, we wish to express our thanks. Then too, the Board of Education, which by its careful and thoughful legisl- lation has done all in its power to improve our school, merits our thanks. Also, we wish to express our gratitude to our towns-people. who by being favorably disposed toward good schools and by supporting them to the best of their ability have enabled us to graduate from a first class high school with good teachers and equipment. Also, to the student body, who have supported our activities before and while we were seniors, we extend our sincerest thanks. VVe wish the class of 1936, good luck.
