Qaagfwtaa-ff On a bright September mornzmg, twelve years ago, the members of the future class of 'Sl gathered in front of the h1gh school bulldmg to begin that :Lmportant journey along the road to knowledge. Only four, B1llie Ann Bowman, Johnie llae Linton, Willlam Coats, and Joyce Ed Hurst, were to travel together the entire way The years domstalrs were marked by the gaining and loslng of var 1011! mabers Upon attalning the coveted goal to get upstairs we be- camo class consc1ous and things wh1ch we remember began taking shape We were now twenty-eight an number llottrie Norris served as presidert of the class and Irs. Margaret Brasel as sponsor We remember wr1t:Lng a themo, 'lb' Punlshment For Eating Peanuts In Class, attending the John son and Franklin County Fairs, and our first party at Frances Hurst's house Bobby Joe Westwood, Jolene Sandlin, and Erich Albat became mem bers of the class Our eighth year we remember the hH trip to Fayettenlle, the Val entime box, a picnic at S1lver Bridge, and Sara Jo Wall joined the class Earl Jr Coats was sponsor Our ninth year found Billie Ann serving as president and lr Ne1l Kinney as sponsor The Freedom Train, the science club banquet, and a pionie were soon memories which faded, when the most important event With Dave Phelps leading ue and W8 Carrens and ltr. Neil Kinney sponsoring, we had mamr events wh1ch we can remember Parties at Billie lnn'a, and Bobby Joe's Qdue to extra weimerslj, the State Fair trip, Christmas program, all day p1cnic, Negro Minstrel, Sadie Hawkins' race, beard growing contest CDavo wonj, and the girls serung at the Jr -Sr banquet And then we were Juniors! mat a year--activlty, responslbillty, fun, and study Bobby Joe was president and llrs Helen Harms served as sponsor The Halloween Carnival, parties, Christmas program, birth day parties, Hobo Day, class play, A Reach lads Family, rad1o broad casts, lay Day Program, Jr Sr. Banquet, the meat loaf, the glee club, the ball games, and the clmax of the year the Junior-Senlor trip to Muskogee, Ihgner, Tulsa, Claremore, Grand Lake, 1nto Kansas, Jophn, Rockaway Beach, Harrison, Jasper, and then home-are all happy memones And suddenly this is it-we are Seniors! ltr Coats is our sponsor Again we count and f1nd that nth the add1t1on of Sarah Nelle Taylor we have fifteen msbers We regret the loss of the others who started this journey with us. Events which will llnger 1n our memories ares receiving our class rings, State Fair trip, Qwith the boys on one bus and the girls anotherj, the Halloween Carnival nlth Jolene and Bobby Joe as Queen and Escort, the election of the Paper Staff, ordenng invita tions, Sadie Hawkins' race and party, electlon of Annual Staff, our visit to the Capitol in Little Rock, and as our year draws to a close, our banquet, graduation, and Jr Sr. trip will find their places in the happy memories of the class of 'Sl Ninth Grade Graduation--eclipsed them. At last we were sophomores.

Q573QHmc P-wpkeaf The jUDl0T a d senlor classes of 1957 have made enough money through out the year to take a trip arou d the world with their sponsor, M Earl Coats Their first stop was in London, En land, where they met hdlliam Coats His main occupat1on is embalming, but he devotes much of his spare time to sc1ent1f1c work Going to Ireland, they saw the yacht, WThe Arbottle Cricket,W owned by Frances Hurst, who is still searchlng for those far away places Taking a plane to Paris, France, they were instructed by the hostess, Joh ie Mae Llnt n, to fasten thelr safety belts and smoke only cigarettes Making a forced landlng in a field near a farm house, they found Jolene Sandlln, who appeared 1n the door of the house She is an unmarried art1st, whose famous portralt of Bobby Joe hangs in the Art Museu in Paris They were told that Reba Hardgrave, a retlred model for the French Bathing Suit Company, lived only three miles from Jolene There they met the Rear Admlral Kenneth EL Byrd and h1s wife, formerly B llie Ann Bowman, taking thelr little covey of birds for a walk in the sun They continued their voyage on the 'Queen Mary' and were cordially greeted by Captain Bob Westwood, whose goal had been to sail the seas. ur Coats, having purchased a 'Gaze At Itn newspaper from the steward, sees an item announcing that Sara Jo Wall has d ed her ha1r red and 18 play1ng basketball with the All Am8T1C3D Redheads He notices an advertisement-Webb Sews and lends Everything-owned and operated by lr and M s Ken Webb Mrs lbbb is the former Mbttr1e Morris, an excellent seamstress has just secured her flfth divorce and 18 being courted by the crooner, Dave Phelps, who has just f1nished the recordlng of 'Move the Well Closer to the House, Mother, So I Wbn't Have to Drive M self to DT1Dken The second item is that Sarah Nelle Taylor has replaced Dorthy Dix w1th her column of 'Advice to the Lovelorn W Her slogan is 'Why get stuck w1th something like I got? Take your pick ofthe Men ' At San Francisco they attended a 'hot rod' race, starring Joyce Ed Hurst, the world's champ1on WHot Rod Racer Continulng the1r tour, they went to the Orange Bowl football stadlum, where everyone was cheer1ng because U C L A had just won another victory Players were carry1ng the all star, Erich 'DuzZ19n Albat, on the1r shoulders Upon return1ng home, they found Marshall Chr1sman, a retired atomic bomb builder, employed as marshall He spends h1s tlme fishing and huntlng all1gators in Louisiana The tr1p comes to its close Each member of.he 'l95ln class has come 1nto the plcture and gradually faded away They will hold 1n their hearts forever the pleasures of the years spent together in Coal Hill High School I g e .
