He finds many interesting articles about his former pupils, the graduating class of 1949. He finds that Don Hurst is the newly elected President of the United States. He also reads about the notorious outlaw, Wilda Bartlett, alias Belle Starr, Denver sheriff, Velma Wheeler, has just reported that Miss Starr and her gang have robbed the Denver bank. Miss Starr is being held in Denver jail until further persecution. As he turns a page he sees that Mozel Linton, now Mrs. Garlen Phillips, has annou ced the birth of triplet boys, named Tom, Dick, and Harry---Mr. Coats reads that Shirley Bartlett, after being an old maid for fifty-two years, announ- ces her own marriage to an insurance broker---He finds that B lly Crabtree has just recieved his degree from Harvard College, and will return to Coal Hill to teach com ercial subjects---Mildred Hurst has been promoted to sargeant over dog-catchers---Mr. Coats turns to the front page of the Chronicle. He reads about the circus that is coming to town. Harolene Ritchey, the tallest girl in the United States, will be main attraction. She is six feet seven inches tall--On the sports page he finds that Doris Douglas has signed a contract to play basket- ball with the American Redheads---On the advertisements page he finds that Winfred Williams is running an ad for a helper in his garbage collecting---Faye Sanders, a gay Spanish burlesque queen, is staging a show in Hollywood. Mr. Coats sees a picture of a little red school house that was organized by Mary Ann Whitecotton. She is teaching her four children, along with twenty others---Bobby Jack Young has been appointed national Game Warden of the U ited States by President Hurst ---On the society page Mr. Coats reads that Jack Lane has filed suit for his fifth divorce, and is now a single man again. Mr.Coats glances at the clock. OhIMy goodness!
