A In 34 years, Coahoma Junior College has come a long way. From its beginning on a.26 acre tract, the campus has almost tripled in 'size and now stretches over 70 acres bordered by picturesque Mackey Lake. 5lQ5,.Qoahoma's educational saga began with 26 students and borrowed from Aggie. Today, Coahoma is a com- mffhity of scholars with an enrollment of more than 1,600 students and approximately 100 faculty and staff. From the 13 buildings shared with Aggie, the college has grown to include 25 major buildings. During the past 3.8 decades, the college has ex- perienced phenomenal growth and development in pro- gram and course offerings. From the initial 10 course offer- ings in 1949, the college now has curricula to include 56 diverse and innovative areas. The decade of the '80's brought to Coahoma a new era of institutional development and a new dimension in high technology. All in all, Coahoma Junior College is a campus with an il- lustrious history of providing the time and the place for: - obtaining a quality education - having fun and being serious - meeting new friends 1 - exploring new ideas and interests - discovering oneself to the fullest 18 The College ' -' -'M F511 ...As L J ' ysqfvgwnmp-xH f' ' ' .x ' -ur- .gq was ,- ,sk , 4 13 ge Q71 Y I qu'- 5 uni.. 221.1 l.. n-6' 973' Pr .' Dr. McKinley Charles Martin President The 1985 Coahoman staff recognizes the contributions Dr. McKinley Charles Martin is making to Coahoma Junior College and Agricultural High School. Since his appointment as President of his Alma Mater in 1979, Dr. Martin's broad visionary conception and his dynamic implementation of an ideal pro- gressive and a community college has positioned Coahoma as a pace-setting institution. Under his energetic leadership, the college has attained significant accomplishments and achievements. His successes as an administrator can be attributed to his reputation as an educator and his firm commitment to excellence. During his four years as Chief Executive of Coahoma Junior College, Dr. Martin has distinguished himself as an educator, a builder and an humanitarian. As an educator, he has successfully and innovationally expanded Coahoma's program and course offerings. As a builder, two new residence halls have been erected, the construction of a vocational-technical annex and a physical plant building are under way. Because of his zeal for educational excellence, he has successfully piloted numerous federal and state grant awards at the college. Most recent among other federal awards is the Endowment Grant. As a humanitarian, his services through the various community, state, and national organizations and boards stands as a shining beacon for his commit- ment to Coahoma Junior College's motto: The College That Cares. The Coahoman staff salutes Dr. McKinley Charles Martin as an administrator, an educator, a builder and an humanitarian. This tribute, we believe, is a reward he richly deserves for the impact he has made on the lives of many people through his leadership. .N CJ C-AHS Scholars Honored for Excellence Dr. McKinley C. This edition was designed to preserve, for posterity, the fond memories of CJC's prestigious heritage of Caring.'l V Throughout this publication we have portrayed an efficient-progresssive administration, and an energetic and intellectual faculty and staff design- ing and implementing programs and activities that hallmark Coahoma Junior College's tradition of sharing and caring. The 1985 Coahoman also features an exciting and eager student body who, as they prepare for bright futures, have earned for the College and themselves honors and awards. This volume, too, contains an alumni who take pride in the accomplishments of their alma mater. Allegiance to the concept of Coahoma Junior Col- lege's tradition of Caring, is reflected by their loyalty and devotion to CJC. The Coahoman staff closes its 1985 yearbook with the assurance that Coahoma Junior College's tradition of Caring will continue to enrich the lives of those who come to chart their future at Coahomna. After choosing the theme, Caring and Preparing, we tried to put together memories of Aggie that will be cherished forever. Although there were times when we felt deadlines would not be made, there were always staff members there who cared and made ends meet. l have enjoyed serving as your Editor and would like to thank the annual staff, photographers, and our advisor, for showing how much they cared and prepared everlasting memories of Aggie. ln closing I would like to wish the future annual staff members much success in their untiring effort in preparing the 1985-86 Yearbook.
