COAHOMA JUNIOR COLLEGE DEVELOPING AND AGRICULTURAL HIGH Scnoor. , NATURALAQQSOURCES CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI 38614 -fs sf'-'Ei ll f Route 1 - Box 616 SINCE 1949 Coahoma Agricultural High School was established in I924 for the purposes of training black youths in basic education, farm employment, domestic employ- ment, and homemaking. Dormitory facilities were provided to accommodate student from across the state. With a small faculty of less than fifteen, some of whom did not have a college degree, the faculty grew to more than forty - all having a college degree more than half with masters g one with a specialist degree. The curriculum ex- panded from basic subject matter to a multi-discipline program. There has been a continuous growth from l92ll to the present faculty, curriculum development, facilities, student activities, financial support, library facilities, student services, and teaching supplies and equipment. ln I 949, through an actof the state legislature, Coahoma .lunior College was established on the campus with the high school, and became one institution. The institution is governed by a single Board of Trustees. The president of the .lunior College is also the Superintendent of the high school. This act by the legislature established a Special School District separating if from the county unit. There has been a continuous, rapid growth in the college. . .from an en- rollment of twenty-one 1210 to approximately two thousand g. . .from a faculty of fourteen U41 to approximately one hundred lI001g. . .from frame buildings to modern structures and facilities. . .from the predominate teacher-education, curriculum to a multi-curriculum offerings and terminal vocational programs g I pre-professional and technical programs. The institution utilizes many federal programs in its growth to help meet the needs of our students and the school community. y Growth has been made in student services and activities.
