DEAN'S MESSAGE Secretary Your 1970 Yearbook theme Stepping Into The Seventies Cbased upon the moon walky is most appropriate for working on present day social problems. Our commitments for the 70's need to be focused on appreciations, values, attitudes and co-operative skills which can involve adults, youth and children in living the good life: thereby attaining the democratic ideal. We must work to become world citizens who are humane and committed to change. These changes should be made on the basis of dialogue which involves all cultural groups in the local, state and national communities. We believe here at Coahoma Junior College that there is need for National Unity. To attain this unity we must help teachers, students and parents feel wanted as a result of a warm and friendly school environment. Parents and adults of the local community should be involved in this step toward relieving community tensions. Teachers must reflect these practices in teaching techniques, pupil-teacher-administrator-relationships and in the personalities of persons. In the 70's we must care about what happens to Coahoma Junior College faculty and students and make each teacher and student feel important and good about themselves. We must enhance our student's self respect, trust, and courage, and provide challenging education adapted to their abilities. ln the 70's students, teachers, adults and parents will continue to work toward the democratic goals of learning to live with themselves and others, first in the classrooms and in local and national communities. This will be a giant step into the 70's for you students, and a giant responsibility for Coahoma Junior College. This responsibility started with the first step by President B. F. McLaurin and Mrs. Zee A. Barron in 1949 with the first 20 students who entered this struggling, beginning college. They laid the foundation on which we will now build and make our contribution through the '7O's. We Step Into The Seventies -with confidence and renewed faith and courage. MARY G. WHITESIDE Lillian P, Jefferson
