During the past ten years Coahoma Junior College and A.H.S. has experienced significant growth in enrollments, curricular offerings, faculty and staff, and physical facilities. The years that lie ahead will present new and greater challenges which can be met if those who comprise the Coahoma family dedicate themselves to carrying out the following resolutions: Students - To engage more seriously in the pursuit of learning. Teachers - To strive more earnestly to whet and to satiate the student's appetite for meaningful and relevant knowledge. Administration - To labor unceasingly toward achieving both the quantitative and qualitative needs of a constantly growing institution. May the decade of the 70's be one of rich rewards! Director of Institutional Development and Public Relations Miss Beatta Carson, Secretary DEAN'S MESSAGE Secretary Your 1970 Yearbook theme Stepping Into The Seventies Cbased upon the moon walky is most appropriate for working on present day social problems. Our commitments for the 70's need to be focused on appreciations, values, attitudes and co-operative skills which can involve adults, youth and children in living the good life: thereby attaining the democratic ideal. We must work to become world citizens who are humane and committed to change. These changes should be made on the basis of dialogue which involves all cultural groups in the local, state and national communities. We believe here at Coahoma Junior College that there is need for National Unity. To attain this unity we must help teachers, students and parents feel wanted as a result of a warm and friendly school environment. Parents and adults of the local community should be involved in this step toward relieving community tensions. Teachers must reflect these practices in teaching techniques, pupil-teacher-administrator-relationships and in the personalities of persons. In the 70's we must care about what happens to Coahoma Junior College faculty and students and make each teacher and student feel important and good about themselves. We must enhance our student's self respect, trust, and courage, and provide challenging education adapted to their abilities. ln the 70's students, teachers, adults and parents will continue to work toward the democratic goals of learning to live with themselves and others, first in the classrooms and in local and national communities. This will be a giant step into the 70's for you students, and a giant responsibility for Coahoma Junior College. This responsibility started with the first step by President B. F. McLaurin and Mrs. Zee A. Barron in 1949 with the first 20 students who entered this struggling, beginning college. They laid the foundation on which we will now build and make our contribution through the '7O's. We Step Into The Seventies -with confidence and renewed faith and courage. MARY G. WHITESIDE Lillian P, Jefferson ADMINISTRATION this -lf I m.f fMf'f, 4 rn. . 1 A The decade of the sixties, which has just ended was a decade of outstanding growth and achievement at Coahoma Junior College. It saw us grow from an enrollment of 299 in 1960 to an enrollment of Q in 1969. Ir1 1960 we had Qgraduates, in 1969, Qi: The sixties were good for C. J. C. both in numerical growth and physical plant growth. We enter the seventies with ambition, hope, and determination to continue our contribu- tion to the well being of society. We congratulate the Ar1r1ua1 Staff on their salute to the seventies, and we sincerely hope that as we make, giant leaps for mankind in the seventies that we will not only conquer space, but learn a more wholesome way to live together in our own environment. Grasp the whole worlds of reason, life and sense, in one close system of benevolence. We, again, extend our congratulations to the Coahoma Staff for an- other job well done. Stepping Into The Seventies offers a great challenge to our youth who must assume leadership roles before the end of the decade. The many fundamental issues which must be resolved will demand of them a concern for the welfare and dignity of others and th e responsibility for their own personal development and excellence. Coahoma Agricultural High School joined the educational elite of the Southern region by achieving Accreditation inthe Southern Association of Colleges and Schools at the close of the Sixties a milestone in the an- nals of our institution. As we step into the seventies I have every reason to believe that the students of Coahoma Junior College and Agricultural High School will meet the challenges of their time and move swiftly and serenely into the mainstream of the American society. This institution has been given a rating which indi- catessit measures up to the standards of accreditation in the regionj' President of the Coahoma Junior College -Agricultural High School complex James E. Miller stated. - A committee from SACS conducted a study ofthe school April 27 to 29 while the school faculty accumlalzed findings of a self-evaluation carried on for several months last term. The two groups presented their re- ports to the association and accreditation was awarded the school during the annual SACS meeting in Dallas on December 3. t At 'the meeting school principal Frank McCune was given? a certificate which granted membership to the association and entitled the local school to all privileges and scholastic recognition resulting therefrom. The main benefit of accreditation, Miller said, is that colleges and universities will accept cerdits from this school without special provision. The high school serves 1,070 students from grades 9-12. STAFF MEMBERS ggi . 3 Q' w X X -wal' 318 ,nk : i , N Q 3 X Q 'I W E'.'f1'St. . 5 xf N. Ribs ,Q QNQX 'Y SQQQQXXI , :SV ' 1 X .
