MISS MAEREAN JONES, Secretary Your theme, Coahoma--Where The Action Is , points up the need for us to look backward critically into the growth and development of the college. This backward view would show that Coahoma Junior College came into being because Super- intendent L. L. Bryson, President B. F. McLaurin, and other responsible citizens of the community were active in pointing up the need for an institution which would up-grade the in-service teachers in the Delta Area and would provide two years of junior college work for students who would find the cost of living away from home beyond their means. . The fact that since 1949 most of the 720 graduates have completed college and some the univer- sity, and are now assuming leadership roles in administration, teaching, and community programs both in and out of Mississippi is evidence ofthe reliability of their judgment and the success of their efforts. Another significant fact may be observed in the continuous growth in enrollment from 22 students and one full-time teacher, Mrs. Zee A. Barron, in 1949, to 801 students and 37 administrators and teachers at the end of the 1967 Winter Quarter. This enrollment increase naturally necessitated growth and expansion in the curricula offerings to meet the needs of the students. But, Coahoma Junior College will also make a forward look hopefully to a period of group de- cisions which will determine what judgments the faculty, citizens, and students will make in order that its procedures .or actions will best meet the needs of people in our ever expanding community. This naturally places great responsibility on Coahoma Junior College if it is to develop to the fullest its human and natural resources - an objective stated in the school's catalog.

Their sons are both presently in foreign countries. Baby Mac is a First Lieutenant serving in Viet Nam. He received both his Bachelors' and Masters' Degrees from Kansas State University before entering the Army. Johnny is now working on his Masters' Degree in Switzerland where he is an exchange student. He received his Bachelors' Degree in Mathematics from the University of Kansas.
