y7res1bf212f19 J essays? Coahoma Junior College announced its opening in September, 1949 with a class of 22 students. It has established itself in the view of many educators and observers as one of the most formidable weapons in the arsenal of the war on ignorance. This year the college is striving to teach more than 750 college students to learn to live together. There is sense, perhaps, in what the most practical aspect of what the college strives to do through its teachings as a communitygtoinculcate within students a spirit of service - man to man and man to society and governmentg to help students learn to live calmly amid the tensions of the modern world: to see all human relations as a challenge toward more humane and moral behavior: and to seek for themselves in the midst of problems and pressures a kind of serenity and personal poise that will make them of the greatest possi- ble service to mankind. The changes taking place in education in the south are a logical part of the overall change in the general educational economy of the world. Education is being regarded as a highly essential production tool. The economics and.techniques of it are given more careful consideration than ever before. New education materials and application techniques are being carefully appraised. Because of this challenge a new breed of student has emerged - a breed made up of men with plenty of ability and enough guts and whatever else it takes to be successful. Out of this midst and through the walls of Coahoma Junior College have come teachers, lawyers, ministers, doctors, nurses, tradesmen and many other fine responsible American citizens. 3
