Principal's Message Never before has American education been subject to greater pressure for change than it is today. Its most extreme critics assert that national survival depends upon drastic and instant improvement in the educational system. The shortage of qualified teachers - present and pro- spective - already is forcing numerous unprecedented steps. There is an urgency for more clar- ity in America's educational aims and more steadfastness in educational endeavors. This is highlighted by crucial issues of physical survival, ethical values, and personal responsibility which trouble the world so sorely these days. There are some very simple - yet major - con- tributions we try to make at Coahoma Junior College to the present day new directions and new dimensions. Certainly, we are committed to excellence in all our work at Coahoma Junior College. and this is more than the currently fashionable thing to do in education - it is absolutely basic. We support, through effective participation every responsible effort to make the institution for all students a world of worth - a college of Champions. ln professional teaching we assert our firm determination to serve in a superior manner. The faculty and students of Coahoma Junior College endorse these basic commitments with sincere conviction, and we keep three concerns clearly before us. 1. We are, and must be realistic - never pessimistic - about the facts of our educational life here. 2. Teaching is a labor of love which grows out of a high measure of profes- sional competence. 3. We expect to accentuate superior performance and to do this we insist that any substandard performance at Coahoma Junior College be eliminated. The college and its people have no time to wasteg ours is a serious purpose and we, indeed. try to pursue it honestly and courageously. Within such a national and international frame- work of social, political, and economic opportunity. Coahoma Junior College has given much thought to the nattrre of its increased responsibility. It continues to develop and analyze ideas. We recognize the fact that professional instruction of quality is essential. We have broken new ground by reaching out, by going beyond the conventional concepts of what constitutes the mission of higher learning. We accept as our obligation to do as much as we can, as well as we can, for as many as we can. If we are to accomplish this, we must see clearly, plan wise- ly and act cautiously. Our program is sighted towards rising levels of excellence and oriented to the complex needs of our times. Technical and professional competencies not alone sufficeg students must develop the ability to understand international as well as national problems and to master the intricate process of human relationship. There is greatness in Coahoma Jtinior College. in its traditions, in its current program, and in its future. As the needs for its services grow, so will its human and physical resources. lt will continue to play a major role in making this a better community, a better nation, and a better world. ,Z mf6
