4 fu DEAN'S MESSAGE Dear Friend, Congratulations to the Editorial Staff for the successful publication of the 1961 Coahoman. This publication not only reflects through pictures and words the activities of the college, it depicts how students and teachers work in carrying out the philosophy and purposes of the Junior College, the peoples college. You have been involved in an activity which has given you many worthwhile experiences. You have shown that you have the will and ability to succeed. You have had to constantly re-examine your efforts to see if you were producing the best of which you are capable. These evaluations have aided you in the development of leadership skills. This should help you keep pace with the demands that will be made on you during this period of uncertainty and crisis in world affairs. Again, I extend my best wishes and sincere congratulations to the members of the 1961 editorial staff of the Coahoman. Mary G. Whiteside, Dean mln 'X

Dear Friends: Again, we publish the Coahoman. Each year finds our annual staff better prepared to publish an annual that tells a more complete story of Coahoma Junior College And Agricultural High School and the increasing popularity of the junior college movement in America. In 1949 twenty-one students from Coahoma County made up our college enrollment shared with 300 students in the high school. Today, 350 students from 30 counties make up our college enrollment with 450 high school students contributing to make a bigger and better Coahoman. A number of factors have combined to make the educational program at Coahoma Junior College effective. New facilities are being completed, additional programs planned by expertly trained teachers who are able to draw upon a broad background of general training and experience. Our growth here is in direct proportion to the steady growth of the junior college movement over the nation. Our greatest encouragement, however, comes from the fact that more students who are better prepared academically enter the college each year. The junior college trend seems to be national in scope. Conclusively, greater appreciation for the junior college is evident. Therefore, in keeping with our clear-cut philosophy and goals, and in keeping with a future filled with fabulous opportunities - the future of America - our junior college has emerged with a program spotlighting the areas of new developments and experiences in the educational system that are most vital to the thought and future of our nation, providing stimulating authoritative advancements of today's basic educational challenges. It makes known to all that the junior colleges have a distinct function by virtue of their creation. PRESIDENT s MESSAGE
