A SEASON The 1965 Cardinal 2 3 A helping hand from Mr. Plemmons can make things easier for Sharon and Carolyn. Homecoming scene FOREWORD This year is gone. The ball games, the exams, the good times, and the bad, these too are gone. We cannot turn back time except when time is captured on a page. And this is what we have tried to do--capture on these pages the year as it unfolded. Years from now, we hope that you can look back at the 1965 Edition of the CARDINAL and see this year pass again. CONTENTS FALL Administration Faculty Classes WINTER Activities Features SPRING Athletics 5 Winter . . . Patience, fortitude, and self control are necessary for mastering the mechanics of lockers. Opening one of those things requires talent during the three minutes between classes. 6 With the help of our teachers we are able to become better students and to be prepared for a more successful future. Moments of solitude and thoughts of the future break into every schedule. Our year is not complete without the Junior-Senior Prom, the social event of the year Dedication We, the members of the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-Five, Clyde High School, take pleasure in dedicating this issue of the CARDINAL, our annual, to Mrs. Nell Campbell Matthews, in grateful recognition of the significant service that she has rendered the community, school, and students through- out her years of fruitful service. «■ ’ v r+r ipiiu mmwr •Erf — ■-— mu $V£ % 1 £ Administration HAYWOOD COUNTY SCHOOL PERSONNEL Mr. Lawrence Leatherwood, Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Mark Rose, PRINCIPAL High School Supervisor, Mr. Ben Price, Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Carl Ratcliffe, Elementary Supervisor. Senior Class Officers Thus ends another year of high school, and for many this is the last. The future looks bright ahead, and Seniors look with hope toward tomorrow. Each event was greeted by the Seniors' cries that it was the last. Looking back brought memories of work, pleas- ure, friendship, and the realization that the year had passed with the speed of wonderful times leaving last- ing memories. We have also seen the rewards hard work and clean play can bring. 13 LOIS GALE BUEKER He who can not forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself. ROBERT STEPHEN HARDIN If it wasn't for the optimist the pes- simist would never know how happy he wasn't. NANCY CAROLYN HAWKINS Jealousy is like a polished glass held to the lips when life is in doubt; if there be breath it will catch the damp and show it. BRENDA KAY HENSON Life is like music; it must be com- posed by ear, feeling, and instinct, not by rule. Sen REED HAYNES HENSON Most of us would rather risk catas- trophe than read the directions. JOHNNY MACK HOPPER If foolish thoughts were dollars, I'd be a wealthy man. ROBERT EARL JACKSON It is with a word as with an arrow- once let it loose and it does not re- turn. DAVID GERALD JACKSON Every man is a volume, if youknow how to read him. DONNA MARIA KILPATRICK Though she be but little, she is fierce. GARY EDWIN LINDSEY I like work; it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours. ors ROBERT DEE LOWE Where there's love, there's nothing lacking. ALAN GALE McCRACKEN Forty is the old age of youth; fifty is the youth of old age. CHARLES CROCKETT MATTHEWS All that you do, do with your might. Things that are done by halves are never done right. HARRIETT CAMPBELL MATTHEWS The surest way not to fail is to deter- mine to succeed. JAMES EARL NEWMAN, JR. Make yourself an honest man and then you may be sure that there is one rascal less in the world. BRENDA LOUISE OWENS He who has health has hope; he who has hope has everything. Sen DIANNA SUE RATHBONE A woman's heart, like the moon, is always changing, but there is always a man in it. ELIZABETH ANN RATHBONE A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.
