At the lockers again. Home Room --8:30-8:45 Put on the Feed Bag. We go home, at last! 1 ! GET-TOGETHER OF THE CLASS OF ’57 Well, folks , here is the class of '57 at the home of Alice McCracken. Isn't this a nice party? Wasn't it a grand idea when we planned graduation night to have a get-together ten years hence. I, Opal Ledford, will try to bring you up to date on the happenings for all of our class. Ralph Hall, a top executive with the Armour Company, was most generous in donating the food for this party; and where could we have found a lovelier home ? It seems that show business has got- ten several of our friends. Peggy Stamey, we would like for you to sing for us Jackie Reynolds' arrangement of Little Boy's Blues . After this solo maybe Ned Lind- sey will tell us some of the jokes that he has used on his television programs. He is one of the top comedians on the ABC Television Network. Danny Caldwell must have learned many new gags since he started working as stunt man for Warner Brothers Studio; maybe he will tell us about some of them later in the evening. Although Helen Smith is a Home Economist, she has her own television program on the new station of C. P. R. TV (Clyde Pigeon River Television Station)--a new television station designed and built by engineer Johnny Rogers. Some of the girls were excited about medical careers when they were in school. They have been very successful in their choice. Marietta Brcwn is very success- ful as the Superintendent of Nurses at Chapel Hill. Edna Mae Fugate, a medical journalist, got her start as the senior class reporter. Elveta Robinson has just gotten her last degree in nursing and she is now head of the pediatrics ward in the new Haywood County Hospital. Joy Young, who always wanted to be a doctor, finally succeeded. She is the veternarian at the Haywood County Animal Hospital. Married life seems to agree with some of our classmates. Sue Haney, now Mrs. Claude Smith and the mother of two children; and F ranees Jones, now Mrs. Wright and the mother of three children, live inWaynesville. Shirley Ducker, happily mar ried, live s in the state of Ken- tucky, where she and her husband own a large horse ranch. Many of the boys have chosen military life. Floyd Brooks is now a five -star general in Uncle Sam's Army. Willard Haney is the Ambassador to Istanbul. He has kept us out of war with Turkey for the last two years. Harold Seay and Ira Martin are the President's advisors on matters that c o n c e r n the Air Force. Last year Charles Stockton s u c c e e d e d J. Edgar Hoover as head of the F. B. I. Others in this class have taken many other types of work. Barbara Jolley and Linda Limbo are secretaries working in the Capitol at Washington, D. C. David Robinson owns one of the largest orange plantations in the state of Florida. He has a mansion located on Millionaire 's Row. Donald Williams owns one of the largest garages in Waynesville where he employs twenty people. George Glance is the head accountant for the Standard Oil Company. Coming to the party late is R. J. C o n a r d , court recorder, who had to put some f i ni s hi ng touches on some of the court reports; because Judge Gary Henline talked too fast during the trial in which District At t o r ne y Jerry Hall, of New York City, won one of his most important cases. Avery proud man tonight is Bob McCracken, head coach at the new Clyde High School, whose football team won the Skyline A Conference. Jack Hall is a pilot for the International A i r 1 i ne s . Elaine Curtis, after taking nurses training, de- cided to become an airline hostess. So she is now with the Trans-World Airline Company. I think I have told you about all that I can concerning my classmates of '57. May I s i g n off now with this one que stion: What does the future hold for this class in the next ten or twenty years; will it be as successful as the past ten years have been ? Prophet Opal Ledford CLASS HISTORY One bright and sunny morning of 1944, sixty-three frightened chil- dren were trying to find a seat in Mrs. Noland's and Miss Freeman's first grade school rooms. From the help of our very patient teachers we made it through the three primary grades and then eagerly went into the grammar grades. Before we began the exciting years of high school, we had constant help from various teachers and we were able to enter into the eighth grade. There we were separated into two individual classes. Mr. Price had charge of the boys; and Mrs. Brooks, the girls. They gave us a wonderful foundation for our last four years, high school. We won free periods by selling Christmas seals and by supporting our Halloween Queen, Alice McCracken. We were also active in basketball during the eighth grade, Mr. Price being our coach. Then one warm fall morning we went into high school. The girls were sent to Mrs. Davidson, and Mr. Roper took care of the boys. With their help we soon found out what high s c h o o 1 required. After our Freshmen year we entered in the home rooms of Miss Howell and Miss Green. Now came our Junior year; we were again divided into two different classes, with Mrs. Soesbee and Mr. Griffin as our advisors. This was a year filled with hard work and good times. We sold Christmas cards to help give the Junior and Senior Banquet built around a western theme. We shall never forget the Junior Play, Three Fingers in The Door , one of our most interesting happenings during our Junior year. m m. We regret to say we lost some of our boys and girls: Carroll Clark, Barbara Hyde, and Skipper Haynes were transferred to other schools. Wedding bells rang for Louise Frady, Hilda Clontz, Hazel Green, Bonnie Price, Ruth Knight, Barbara Inman, Edwina Summey, and Hester Rathbone. We gained Jackie Reynolds, Elveta and David Robin- son, Bob McCracken, Joy Young, and Floyd Brooks in the ensuing years. Wow! Seniors! We really were proud of ourselves at this point. Thirty-two remained with our class to reap the rewards of a diploma. The boys and girls were together for the first time in Mrs. home room. Brown's Many of our boys made outstanding records in football, playing un- defeated until their last game. Our dramatic experiences culminated with thirteen of our class presenting The Amazing Maudie Starr . This was deemed a major success. Our class was not privileged to take a trip to Washington, but we were graciously entertained by the Juniors at a banquet and prom in May. As you know all tales must have an ending, and so must ours.
