Where does she find enough time to manage the subscrip- tion campaign? She made the Honor Society with 'flying colors. ' Yes, she was there for all the Pep Club stunt practices. Hard to believe, I know, but this is iust one CHS student-Sharry Felton. Who made that last touchdown? That's our football co-captain. Always ready for a good time. That's that tall good-looking boy. Who makes all those good grades in the classroom? That's a Boy Stater-Buck Wilson, 0 s '50 '5 o Q44 0' 9 ati 0 Gila 0 of its lp oo JUNIOR CLASS FAVORITES JAN ASHLEY oARviN FRYAR Jan and Garvin are not only popular in their class and high scholastically, but also very talented on the stage. Both were leading characters in this year's class play, Harvey. Not a day goes by in CHS without everyone's seeing Jan bounding vivaciously down the halls and Garvin bending over his Latin book, deep in thought. Q SOPHOMORE FAVORITES JIM SIMMS JERRY LEBOW A sweet smile, a kind word, and a quiet humor only partially describes the like- able personality of Jerry Beth, a girl recognized for her charm and ability. Seldom is Jim seen without a teasing smile and a ioke to tell. He has that rare tactfulness that is essential to one who can make others laugh with him and at themselves. With such successful qualities, these students can be expected to do many good things through their high school years. ...xx B.D.C. DEBATERS-Bob Ashley and Keith Forbes The B. D. C.-G. D. C. Kaufman, the writers of The Man Who Came to Dinner, was presented by the Senior Class under the direction of Mrs. Jean Conn on April 13. Football season found them marching at the stadium at 6:00 a.m., preparing stunts for the Friday night games. Besides sponsoring the Pep Club Banquet and the annual All-Sports Banquet each spring, Pep Club elects the Basketball King and attendants, supports Pep Rallies, decorates the halls and also the business section of Clovis before the games. A lot of work comes out of this club, because these girls are behind the Wildcats all the way. Each year at the Pep Club ban- quet, the Club elects officers for the following year. The officers for this year are: Kay Murphy- Captain, Nancy Bresenham-Co- Captain, Barbara Martin-Secre- tary, and Billie Armstrong-Treas- urer. CLOVIS HIGH SCHOOL BAND The Clovis High Band is one of our finest organizations. Its members perform at football games, festivals, and parades. They represent not only the Clovis schools, but also the town of Clovis. Each year, in addition to their own spring concert, they sponsor some musical guest artist to appear with the band. PEP BAND: Organized only this year, it plays at all home basketball games. lt promotes school spirit by playing peppy marches and iazz music. We compliment the Pep Band members for their fine work during this year, for they have contri- buted much to school activities. MR. TOLMAN Mr. Tolman is the Director of the Clovis High Band. He is one of the finest directors in the state, and is a friend to all. BAND OFFICERS: Band officers are elected each year at the Band banquet held in the spring. They are, left to right: Betty Growden-Secretary, Gail Dunn-Librarian, Le Roy Green-Treasurer, Ronnie Miller-President, Linda Anderson-Reporter, Charley Bob Smith-Vice President. These officers are elected for the whole school term and are in charge of all band business. SONGS OF CHRISTMAS What: Treble Choir When: 2:00 a.m. Where: Lyceum Theater PN X615- Ah, come on boys! Stand tall, Sit tall, Walk tall! What next? Songs of Christmas are ageless , . . garnished each year with new voices singing of this ioyous occasion. In this record album of songs, recorded by the 125 enthusiastic students of the Clovis High Music Department, you hear more than just a high school choir! You hear these students, under the artistic guidance of Mr. Barton, sing as never before, for this album represents a triumph for Mr. Barton and for the students of Clovis. You hear these voices sing as one . . . with near perfection in pitch, exactness of words, and all the other necessities of professional musicianship! This did not just happen! It required endless hours of practice and recording for the ability of all concerned to blend their talents into the wonderful listening that the album produced. The recording of Songs for Christmas was engineered and supervised by Norman Petty, an alumnus of Clovis High School, and his lovely wife, Vi. All proceeds from the sale of the albums went to the Music Department organ fund. Mrs. Bess Booth is the sponsor. Membership in the Society is awarded to those students who have most nearly attained the fundamental aims of a high school. Education may be said to have four dimensions: Scholarship, Character, Leadership and Service. These are the bases for eligibility in the National Honor Society. The Society's emblem, the keystone, with the letters C, S, L, and S, at its base, is representative of lasting personal stability derived through character, scholarship, leadership and service to others. The flaming torch within the keystone is suggest- ive of the purpose to bear forward the light of truth, and to keep burning in school and in after years the enduring values of life.
