Whether you are studying for a test or watching a basketball game, school life cen- ters around the doer and what he does, The 1966 Equestrian depicts many of the action spots of the past year. At CHS you can see where the action is--in studies, in organizations, and in sports. Can you find yourself among the ac- tion kids? Maybe you aren’t shown in some of the pictures, but only you know if you were there or not. If you weren’t in the action spotlight, make sure you go where the action is next time. JOHN MURPHY, B.S., Shippensburg State Teachers College English IV Gaining proficiency in the language arts is by no means an easy task. Many a Cloverleaf student has struggled to express his ideas, orally or on paper. That same student has discovered also that reading the ideas of another involves active participation on the part of the reader. It is only when ideas or images are success- fully expressed or grasped that training in the language arts becomes a truly rewarding experience. MRS. CHARLES GOWER, B.S., California State College World History, American History An understanding of the history of civiliza- tion is especially important in these times of con- flict between growing industrial nations. As we go about attempting to solve these problems, it is vi- tal that we understand each other, as well as our- selves. Through the study of World History and American History, students are prepared to parti- cipate in a civilization which has had many grow- ing pains. They witness victory and defeat. They view heroes and traitors. They explore the minds of men who have either created or destroyed social structures. As a result, students are better able to cope with the trials of everyday life. ie A neta = Pea Vaan MR. CALVIN MC COY, B.A.,B.S.E., Ohio State University Civics, Law Civics Inspires Participation in Government Assuming that an understanding of American government is essential to all Americans, all seniors are required to include civics in their courses of study. Although emphasis is placed on the basic principles of the American system of government, recent and pos- sible future developments at local, national, and in- ternational levels are also included to stress the im- portance of our government in an ever-changing world. With this knowledge and understanding, we, as the citizens of the United States, can make our government a government of the people, by the peo- ple, and for the people. MR. ELIZABETH DETROW, B.S., Wooster College French I and II, Algebra II, Plane Geom- etry Foreign Languages Offer Dual Knowledge There are so many different aspects to teaching and learning a foreign language. Reading, writing, hearing, and speaking the language present a challenge to the student and the teacher. Not only do the stu- dents learn a foreign language, they also become fam- iliar with a culture different from their own. Each year the students do home projects which aid them in better understanding their respective countries. MRS. BERNADINE WEIR, B.S., Baldwin-Wallace College Spanish I and II i i H 16 MR. Since mathematics is the foundation of the modern sciences, teachers are testing new methods of in- struction. It is the accepted way of re- cording engineering data. It transfers the engineers’ knowledge to paper and trans- lates these ideas into practical production drawings. MRe CUARENCE FEHLHABER, B.S., Stout State College Vocational Engineering Drafting For those who get that creative urge occasionally and wish to transfer their emo- tions to some tangible form, Mr. Morris provides an outlet.
