Eight years of successful competition in 4-H horsemanship was the foundation for a stable of 20 horses that Marcia Broadstreet called her string . Marcia's trailer could be seen traveling the highways throughout the summer and fall as she competed in horse shows. The officers of the Girls' 4pH club worked hard to make 4-H suc- cessful through the summer at CHS. Ofiicers were: Front row: S. Sendmeyer, Health and Safety, M. Broadstreet, Reporterg K. Staley, Songs. 4-H'ers Made The Best Better Both 4-H Clubs at CHS had a successful year with many members receiving blue rib- bons. Working hard for their awards were: Front row: D. Stattner, B. The Future Homemakers of America were busy throughout the year with various projects, buying edu- rational toys for the Kindergarten, having interesting meetings and enjoying a turkey supper. Ed- The FHA oflicers worked hard to make 1971-1972 a successful year for achievements and fun. Those of- ficers were: Seated: A. Dorsett, Treasurer, P. Bailey, Project Chairman, N. Stevens, Secretary, N. Stevens, Vice President, J. Powell, Song Leader. Standing: R. Dorsett, President and G. Powell, Reporter. 26 FHA Were Homemakers Of Tomorrow wards, P. Hunter, J. Powell, N. Stevens, S. Collins, R. l Dorsett. Third row: D. McClane, J. Quinnette, J. McKamey, S. Wilson, G. Powell, W. Wagner, S. Jones, j B. Jones. Fourth row: C. Carmichael, S. Bowman, J. Rich, D. Bailey. 1 4-H had many exciting pro- jects to offer and Boys' 4-H officers tried to have every- one in their club excell in at least one project. Officers were: J. Gerlach, Recreationg J. Yount, Recreation, M. Cassida, Secretary-Treas- urerg W. Morrison, Vice President and Rod Ray who was President was not pictured.

The Jou1'nalism class was another first for CHS. Under the direction of Mrs. McKinney, the school newspaper was completely re- vamped with a new format and a new name. It was published bi- monthly with different students assuming the responsibility of the editorship. New Opportunities For Students Photography Club members were: Front row, Mr. Reece, G. Sutherlin, K. Ison, C. Manning, S. Powell, E. O'Conner, A. Purcell, Mr. Purcell, Second row: S. Orr, T. Dunshee, M. Steele, M. Hervey, G. Allen, M. Cassida, G. Bowman, J. Sutherlin, G. Sublett. Third row: H. Man- son, R. Kennedy, D. McCammack, K. Nield, J. Farmer, M. Diel, K. Patten, G. Wheeler, D. Jordan, B. Ebbing. Mr. Purcell explained the fine points of the camera to Myron Hervey, Vice-President and Kathy Ison, President of the Photography Club. A new dark room was equipped dur- ing the second semester for the con- venience of the students who could do their own picture developing. This was also utilized by the mem- bers of the Hi-Lites staff. 28
