Audience Applauded The Yankee King Arthur's Court was greatly up-dated with the com- ing of Hank Bennett, the Connecticut Yankee. Hank, the clever young man who had a dream that turned back the pages of history, was played by Steve Orr. Queen Guenever, the domineering wife of King Arthur, was aptly played by Marcia Broadstreet, who was the un- suspecting victim of Merlin's greed to overthrow the Kingdom. Student managers were: Jack Yount, Greg Sutherlin, Rick Kennedy and Jim Sutherlin. Varsity Had Winning Combination l A winning season, 18 wins and 6 losses, was due to the tremendous desire for success. Coach Tuck- er built a well-balanced squad combining the shooting ability, speed, and enthusiasm of each member to provide good basketball for Cloverdale as well as Putnam County. In their 16 game sea- son that included two tourneys, the Clovers met old rivals as well as new, worthy opponents. Meet- ing the difficult challenge that the Varsity faced were: Coach Tucker, D. Nees, R. Moore, D. Branneman, Assistant Coach Williams. Second now J. Williams, R. Nees, C. Jones, M. Steele, J. David, K. Frazier, B. Walton. Spirit, pep, enthusiasm-it was hard to find the right words to describe the Varsity Cheerleaders. They lead cheers at the pep sessions, made booster signs for the halls and backed the Clovers in their winning season. Captain N . Stevens, K. Lewis, B. Whitaker, T. Ison. 1971-72 Holiday An early Christmas gift for Coach Tucker was the Championship Trophy of the Holi- day Tourney at South Putnam on December 20-21. The Clovers defeated the strong Owen Valley Patriots on December 20 with a score of 70-54. The next night the team went on to down the high-soaring South Putnam Eagles 1 by a small margin of 67-59. January 20-22, Cloverdale's Varsity and B Team traveled to l 4 ourney Champs Cascade for the invitational tourney. In the opening game of the tourney, the B team was defeated by Monrovia by a score of 46-44. On January 21, the Varsity bombed the Monrovia Bulldogs, 80-46. In the cham- pionship game the Clovers were defeated for the second time of the season by the Avon Orioles with the 8-point margin of the ear- lier game. This year's B-team sported the fine record of 16-3. Many of their games were close, but these mighty Clovers were able to overcome most of their powerful adversaries. Members Q of the board who met monthly with Mr. Johnson were: Seated: Mrs. Lillian Whitaker, Sec.g Mr. John Monnett, and Mr. Russell Sendmeyer. Standing: Mr. Arthur Johnson, Supt.g Mr. Wendell Neese, Pres.g Mr. Harley Suther- lin, Mr. Alva Cash, V. Pres.g and Mr. Wayne Meek. dministration Was Hub of C.H. . Mr. Johnson and members of the Board of Education had spent many hours in consultation and planning for the new addition which would relieve the crowded conditions in the elementary building and also some of the high school classes. After many delays and much frustration, ground for the new wing of the elementary building was finally broken in October. WAS' l se Scheduling classrooms and coping with the crowded conditions of the high school, Mr. Ison endeavored to give the students of C.H.S. the type of education that would be most desireable for ones individual needs. Opportunities for enrichment of the students' education was the primary concern of the adminis- tration. With that objective before them, new courses were constantly being added to the cmriculum. Seldom does the average student take into consid- eration the difficult tasks that face the school ad- ministration. When the final foot steps had faded away at the beginning of summer vacation, the ad- ministration was already planning the first day of school in the fall. Wheel Knowing the importance of helping students plan for tomorrow, Guidance Director and Assistant Principal Mr. Schopmeyer, was always eager to dis- cuss any problem or answer any ques- tions that students had about their schedules or colleges. Keeping smoothly functioning ofiices for both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Telgmeyer kept Mrs. Price busy commuting between the Superintendent's office and the Elementary building. Jenny was equal to the situation and also served as treasurer for the Board of Education, kept the supplies ordered, and had charge of the bookstore in the fall. A very friendly face around school was that of Mr. Virgil Telgemeyer, Elemen- tary Principal. He was on hand to greet students as they arrived in the morn- ing and waved good-bye as the buses left at 3:10. Mr. Telgemeyer had a tre- mendous responsibility as there were 604 students enrolled in elementary school. Learning the names and faces of all the students who appeared in the Principal's oflice seemed an unsur mountable task for Mrs. Colleen Neese when she as- sumed her duties as secretary to Mr. Ison. He also put together a winning season as coach of the eighth grade basketball team. 64 Mathematics, Physical Education Mr. Curran, evidently very popular among students, was voted the first Teacher of the Week. The cafeteria staff worked diligently to provide studmts with a variety of lunches during the 180 school days. Those responsible for preparing and serving both balanced and nutritious meals were: Louise Cummings, Elinor Clines, Jean McKamey, Mild- red Bailey, Mary Ellen Cummings, and Marge Bowman, cafe- teria manager. The Indispensible Ones Some of the most important people in our school, who were usually given the least amount of l credit, were the custodians. Returning change l that the coke machine should have given out, fix- ing leaking radiators, and replacing broken win- dows were just some of the jobs that kept the cus- todians very busy. The custodians pictured are: Mr. John Elmore, Mr. Renos McKamey, Mrs. Mary Yount, and Mr. Ray Woodall. 1,3- i ? We would also like to express our gratitude to Mrs. Liveoak, our sponsor, for her guidance, words of encouragement, and her willingness to spend extra hours working on the yearbook when rushed deadlines approached. Last, but not least, we would like to sincerely thank ALL of the Hi-Lites Staff. They not only donated their time, effort, and talent to the production of the yearbook, but retained a never give up attitude when their tasks seemed un- surmountable. The 1971-72 Clover Hi-Lites could not have been produced with- out the help and cooperation of many people. Unfortunately, it is impossible to acknowledge each person individually.
