Here's one for a new record, Class of l96O, just out in June. Judging by its past success, l96O may well be a hit with the future. The record tells the story of several hundred students who have reached graduation. Some of them have been in Clover Park for only a little while, others for the full four years of high school. But this year's 524 seniors have agreed that the Class of 1960 is not just the largest Clover Park will boast, it shall become No, l on the popularity parade. The Class of l96O started off big, too, with 6ll sophomores. lt was the year of the sputniks and the chemise dress. Fred Eaton was class president, and Karen Johnson, vice-president. Linda Carlson took notes at class meetings, and Treasurer Maryellen Swanson counted the class funds. Keeping the mob under control was Bob Ritter, sergeanteat-arms. Lowell Halverson served as sophomore representative, thus getting his finger in the Student Council pie early. At the Hop recalls the soph. dance under the chairmanship of Mary- ellen Swanson and George Hess. And the girls were just as pretty then . . . Diane Miles was sophomore attendant at the Klahowya Dance, and Lynn Fotheringill made a smiling princess at Homecoming. The boys, too - Brad Stevens played duke at the Tolo. No less memorable was the junior year, when John Aram presided over class meetings. Nancy Peale gained experience as secretary, a po- sition she held again as a senior on the Student Council. Brad Stevens was vice-president then. Bouncer last year and again for the senior class of of '60, Jim Cooper was the ideal sergeant-at-arms. The Junior Prom, Carousel, was planned by Betty Jean Benum and Eddie Leimbacher, co- chairmen of the dance. Other social events included the annual Girls' Club Tolo, over-seen by Karen Grant, for which George Hess was prince, and the all-school play, The Great American Family. Janice Smith represented the junior class on the Student Council and again as a princess at the Klahowya Dance. At Homecoming, Karen Johnson was junior attendant. Cheering the Warriors on the warpath were Pat LaPierrie, Faith Judd, and Roberto Whinery from the pep squad. Nancy Peale won the Voice of Democracy contest at Clover Park with her appealing speech. In the National Figure Skating Championship Junior Pairs Competition, Jerry Fotheringill teamed with his sister to take first place. Finally, the senior year has come and gone, a road of many landmarks passed. The first of these might be the realization of Clover Park's own Rose Bowl dream - an invitation to the Turkey Day game in Seattle against Garfield. For their contribution to the Warrior football team, John Aram and Jeff Iverson received the inspirational award. Not only in athletics did Clover Park make a good name. An able Student Council, including seniors Lowell Halverson, Mac Greeley, John Aram, Jerry Fotheringill, Peter Kiu, Nancy Peale, and Sandra Lemon took charge of and presided over the Puget Sound Leadership Conference, which was attended by various high school leaders from the Tacoma-Seattle area. Many improvements in student government have been made. And the Century 'll Beautification Project was intro- duced to Clover Park, under John Dooley's chairmanship, promising to give C.P. grounds a needed face-lift. Rocking out on the yell stat? were seniors Karen Johnson, Roberta Whinery, Janice Smith, Dixie Covington, and Lisette Shaw. Publications had a good year with Shirlee Alfultis, Lea Bitar, Lynette Kinderman, and Sharon Machen editing the Clover Leaves. Nor can Gracie Hobart be over- looked for her management of the Klahowya. The Senior Ball, Ice Palace, planned by Noll Anne Cun- ningham and Roger Mayfield, the Senior Class Play and Judy Osborne's star performance, the Senior Banquet, and at last, Graduation .... Every member of the Class of l960 knows that here is a record which will surely hold Top Spot in the many years ahead. -t Jim Cooper, Sgt.-at-Arms erry Fotheringill, Sr. Rep.
