--1 Cloquet High School stands for the ambitions, the hopes, the heartaches, and the dreams of 1000 students. Forever, our minds will be hlled with nostalgia for CHS when we remember cramming for tests at the last minute, coming almost late to fourth hour, or staying after school in Room 210 until 5:30. Wle will be homesick for our school whenever we hear the clack and clatter of the typing class or the rapid beat of a street march: we will be homesick when we smell the odor of tomato soup that filled the school on Friday's or of floor wax that drifted through the halls during the week after vacations, we will be homesick for our school when we recall the anxiety we felt as 3:05 ap- proached on Wednesday every sixth week. Impressed in the brains and imbedded in the blood in each of those 1000 students is a different conception of what CHS means. To some, it stands for slide rules and physics and advanced math classes, biology and dissecting and the smell of formaldehyde. To others it means an Aquatennial Champion band and Mr. Sampsonis last year, Madrigal singers, white dinner jackets and original music by Mr Schroe- der for the A'Cappella choir. It means class plays, grease paint and powder, and the all-school play, debate trips or speech trips and straight U50 ratings. It means chemistry and stools that were too high for comfort, the smell of rotten eggs, and another 204 added to the bill for a broken beaker. It means poor at- tendance at the student council meetings, the prayer bell that never seemed to ring, and straight hair at the sock-hop on Sno-Day. It means Pine Needle meetings, deadlines to meet, and the press convention. Cloquet High means going pheasant hunting. being tardy, and yellow slips, it means home- coming floats in the fall and homecoming candi- dates in the winter. To the students and to the citizens of the community the high school means the develop- ing center for one of the most complete athletic departments in the state. To us, the seniors with these memories, Cloquet High means proms, and the girls not invited, basketball letters and the boys who didn't make the bench, the honor roll. and those of us who just missed it and won't have another chance. CHS holds memories of Gus's desk. the second floor bulletin board. walking to school in the rain. It stands for panels in 7 social class. the front seats in the auditorium at convocations, and the dust and dreams of Mac- beth. To us, it stands for the Wlhite Pine, our annual - the record of our senior year. 'fv' Y., Y . M , i z, f - X f. fm tct. .s QM Y
