One day, I decided to find out what makes the school run so smoothly. I began to ask arlounqd. Theredwasi one name w ic was sai a ot. It was ...,,,,,, IVIr. John Savel. I wondered where this man could be found. Finally, I found out he was the superintendent. Nlr. Savel told me that he has a lot of plans, but the only way they could work is if the parents of the community helped out. lVIr. Savel has help from the administrators, and they do their best also. I decided that they chose the right man for the job. 20 administration if oi : v l Q., ? :Q ka! 'lvl fig 'gg ga all . 'alia OFFICE WILLING TO HELP This is the first year at Clintondale for Dr. Thomas Bleet, and he's become a great asset. He has been very successful with the students, and everyone likes him. He came to us from Lakeview High School at the start of the 1974-1975 school year, he commented that, l've never met as friendly a group of students than here at Clintondale. He also said that he wants to help make C.H.S. the best, not 2nd best, but the BEST. The new freshman this year, and the sophomores are lucky enough to have Nls. Chiakmakis on their side as their special assistant principal. She is from the Junior High, but gets along well with the students. We are very happy to have lVIr. Rivers with us again this year, his 3rd year at Clintondale High as an assistant principal. Our principal, Doc Bleet, said that the three are working as a team for the betterment of Clintondale. TOP LEFT-Dr. Thomas Bleet, TOP RIGHT-Mr. Rivers, LEFT-Ms. Chiakmakis. principal 21 COUNSELORS AND LIBRARIAN THERE TO HELP l almost fainted when my home room teacher handed me my schedule. Ten study halls, four lunches, one ROTC class and six go homes. l thought over the situation and in a burst of speed I ranlto the counselors. l always feel com- fortable knowing that their there. The library is a place where students can go for almost any reason, at almost anytime dur- ing the day to put an hour of time to good use. 22 counselors and librarian 7' 'S -Y -ll, ',, ,,, TOP: Ms. Deluca, Ms. Limbach, Mr. Bard, Nls. Sewell and Mr. Erfurt. ART BRINGS OUT IDEAS ,X .A . J TOP-Mr. Stroble, ABOVE LEFT-Ms. Hubbard, RIGHT-Ms. Hirzel. l've been sitting here forthe last hour listening to a lec- ture and can't wait until the bell rings, Finally l'll be go- ing to Art Class where l can perform rather than just sit- ting here listening to some- one else perform. l really en- joy being able to utilize my own thoughts and imagination in being creative. It always seems l'm having to came up with others peoples' ideas and other peoples' concepts, in art I can try to reflect my- self. l'm really pleased with the wide choice of classes l have now in the art program there's drawing, painting, sculpture, and even photo- graphy to choose from. The first book we're reading is called IVIy Darling IVIy. Hambur- gerI What? NIy Darling Nly Hamburger? I don't want to read about hamburgers! If I did, I'd go to Burger King and read the walls! What luck! This isn't the only class I have to choose from, how- ever. I am lucky because of the fact that I do have a choice in exactly what Eng- lish classes I want. I could have chosen a different one such as High Adventure Stories, Romance Short Sto- ries, Radio 8.T.V., or perhaps Lyric Poetry, or even Stranger than Fiction. These are only a few of the many good mini courses of- fered this year. This college- type scheduling, which be- gan Iast year, has worked out very well. ' english dept. 25 , a-f Ei? l. 61 .,f . L .Z I sat on the end of the bench, almost asleep, during our Final State Tournament gamet All of a sudden, the coach said, Bill, put on a helmet and pick up a bat, you're going to bat for IVIike. I hustled out and tripped over the dugout steps flying about ten feet. I got up to the bat- ter's box and tried to regain the poise I once had. But my heart was beating so loudly I couIdn't hear myself think. I eyed the situation, bases loaded, two outs and the score tied, Before I got my stuff completely together, the pitcher fired a blazing strike. I watched it go by. The coach on third gave me the take sign. I took the next two pitches for balls. I fouled the next pitch, and that evened the count, 2 and 2 I stepped out of the box, grabbed some sand, spit on my hands, making a complete mess, and then choked up on the bat. I had a feeling the next pitch would be a changeup, and it was. I connected for a double and drove in the winning runs. baseball 55 THE GIRLS BASKETB LL TEAM OF 1974-75 56 girls basketball I , T Af, f , I TOP, VARSITY: BOTTOM T0 TOP7 FIRST ROW: Ellen Coccitti, Nancy Rutkowski, Mette Morck, SECOND ROW: Paula Manning, Kay Banks, Robin Glasius, Clare Samuels, TOP ROW: Nina Forton, Joan Kowalski, Kathy Cieslak, Sheila Butrose, Coach: Ms. Pitts. Oh well-the game's drawn quite a few peo- ple and I'lI bet they just came to see me play and here I am keeping the bench warm. Oh here comes the coach again-I get to play! Hurray! Boy now that I'm out here I want to go back in. I have a feeling every- one has their eyes on me-I think I know why, the game is over and I just got put in. Well anyways it was a good football game and Sr.'s won 26 to 6 against the Jr.'s. Those Sr.'s sure were tough. Maybe it was because of their great coach-Mr. Smith. The Jr.'s tried hard because ofthe drive and determination shown by their coach-Mr. Britt. SR.'S VS. jR.'S IN POWDER P FF GAME r 'fig'- R In , Ii , ,jf Q I Q . egg 4 ,I t if ! . 55? Q 9? Club, butl don't feel that sewing, cooking, and clean- ing house are menial tasks. I find the many things we do very satisfying and personal- ly rewarding. However, we don't just sit around talking about the latest fashions and recipes. We've brought our ideas into the commu- nity, helping other people. On Halloween we dressed in costumes and visited hospi- tals, entertaining many peo- ple. Despite the looks we got on the way there, we had a good time doing so much for many people. One of my main goals of the French Club was to visit a foreign speaking country and be able to speak French un- derstandably. I'm really surprised at what this club's been doing. We've really been on the move this year- selling stationary and work- ing so that we could travel, visit other schools, and also experience some of the different types of French foods during our visits to French restaurants. 68 french and home ec club ABOVE: Darcie Sauer, Treasurer, Marlene Turell, President, Joan Wernimont, Bonnie Saunders. Ever since my first day as a freshman, I had hopes of being asked to a home- coming. Well the big day finally arrived. The neatest guy in my English Class asked me. Thoughts were going through my head such as: What am I going to wear, is he a good dancer? Where are we going to eat? I hardly know him. Even though I had three weeks to get ready, I doubted that I would make it. When October 19 rolled around, I was ready. He said he would be over to get me at 7:OO and like usual, I wasn't ready. After all, I had to go to the beauty shop, go to the florist and pick up his flower, go to Perry's and get some film and flashcubes, take a shower to calm my nerves down. I was just fine until I heard his car come down the street. I total- ly went numb. You could tell that he was nervous too. But after we got to the dance, everything was great. We sat at a long table with all of our friends and danced all night. It was really a lot of fun. TOP: Couples taking a Breather. Rhoda Harris smiles away. SNO-BALL DANCE -THE BEAUTY OF WINTER . . . THE MANY EXPRESSIONS OF IUNIORS Y-Sb' The Junior Class is really get- ting it together this year. This year they take hold of more re- sponsibilities than ever before. They are working hard and try- ing to raise money for the Jun- ior-Senior Prom, which they will be putting on at the Rooster tail, on lVlay 9th. To increase their budget, the Juniors are having Roller Skating Parties, Pancake Breakfasts, Concerts, and selling refreshments at dif- ferent school activities through the year. lt's certain they will have a fun-filled year, even though there is much hard work in store. When a teacher asks me to go to a certain room, l know I won't have to ask someone where that room is located. I can even give directions when asked. We sophomores also got our class rings this year, which was very exciting. Now we can also wear them like the upperclassmen do. But I guess the most memorable event when you are a sopho- more is when you finally get your driver's license. You no longer have to ask For rides to Burger King after the games, nor do you have to worry about making them bring you home early. You can cruise anywhere you'd like and not worry about anybody else. Even though we haven't won any class competitions this year, we had fun trying. Just wait until next year! TOP LEFT, Dragon Float.
