Class History Of 1954 “51” Brash Freshmen Doug Maulden President Bill Finion V. President Pauline Clayton Secretary Ann Fraser Treasurer Tommye Workman Reporter On Sept. 1, 1950, 54 green and slightly awed Freshmen entered the doors of C.S.V.T.S. and started on the upward climb to the highest goal, that of gradua- tion. It seemed to be a great way off but we set in heartily to eat up the distance with school events, some of which were done by Freshmen for the first time. After settling down to study we were stirred up again with FFA and FHA initiations. We thought them a great trial, but laughed at them afterward. With no Junior foot- ball, our Freshman boys were eligible for Senior football and two of them, Glen Cooper and Bill Finton, did so well that they lettered, something unusual for Freshmen. Along about the middle of the year we put on three one-act plays and almost everyone had a part in them. Of course Basketball came along and the Junior B.B. team put its name on the map by winning the Class A District 5 Cham- pionship at Valley Springs. To end a per- fect year we went on an educational field trip to Little Rock where we visited many of the Capitol’s historic spots. “52” Bumptious Sophomores John Page---------------------President Doug Maulden ............. V. President Yvonne Baker Secretary Vina Mae Treat Treasurer Cleo Stark Reporter Returning on Sept. 1, 1951 were 51 Soph- omores who were full of fun and mighty lazy. We inflated our egos by initiating the Freshmen into FFA and FHA. We produced four lettermen in football, five in boy’s basketball and five in girl’s bas- ketball. “The Campbells Are Coming,” our play production for the year, was lots of fun. Our class trip was taken to Petit Jean. “53” Battling Juniors Glen Cooper President Doug Maulden V. President Yvonne Baker Secretary Eualaine Shipp Treasurer Vina Mae Treat Reporter On Sept. 1, 1952 when we returned as Juniors, we were determined to make up for our lazy Sophomore year. We put our five football lettermen, with Roy Demp- sey making All-district. Yvonne Baker was elected football Queen and presided over the homecoming game which we won. We produced two plays: “Father Was a Housewife” and “Don’t Take My Penny.” Basketball for us was great dur- ing our Junior year. We had six men on the State Championship team and Ted Whillock was named All-State. Talk about a feather in our caps! Of course we couldn’t leave out the event of choosing our class rings and the Junior-Senior Ban- quet. Our class trip was again taken to Petit Jean but we saw things we hadn’t seen before and did things we hadn’t done before. To end the year, Glen Cooper and Douglas Maulden were chosen Junior ushers for graduation. “54” Brainy Seniors Doug Maulden President Glen Cooper V. President Yvonne Baker Secretary Ruth Vacin Treasurer Veda McCaslin Reporter September 1, 1953 was an eventful day for 43 of us. You see we were entering C.S.V.T.S. for the last 9 months. We were Seniors, and mighty proud. The first week of school we got our class rings and made record time in getting in all the money for them. We ordered caps and gowns, announcements, personal cards and di- plomas. Annette Loudermilk was chosen second in a local beauty contest, and was elected president of the local chapter of FHA. Yvonne Baker was chosen Home- coming Queen and FFA Sweetheart. Roy Dean Dempsey, Bill Finton, and James McCutcheon were rated as All-District in football. Roy Dean was also chosen All- state in football; he was President of both the “C” Club and FFA. Senior year we produced “Desperate Ambrose”, and many who had never been in a play had a chance to act. The Junior and Senior classes to- gether produced a Variety Show for a lot of fun and some extra money. The annual Junior-Senior Banquet sponsored by the Juniors was really something. The theme was “A Garden of Memories,” and it was done to a turn. The Valedictorian for our class was Ruth Vacin. Douglas Maulden was Salutatorian and Davenport Award winner. The Sportsmanship Award, a new honor this year awarded by the Lion’s Club, went to Roy Dean Dempsey. Our class colors were blue and white; our class flower the white carnation and our motto was “Not the end, just the beginning.” We published the “TORCH”, and went on our class trip to New Orleans, and end- ed our high school career on May 19 with graduation.
