CLASS HISTORY Entering September 9, 1947, a group of seventy-four insignificant Freshmen rolled into dear old C.S.V.T.S. We have slowly advanced through the various stages of our Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years, finally reaching the greatly envied rank of Seniors. During this time there were many changes in our ranks, some transferring to other schools, some falling by the wayside, a few joining Uncle Sam's army. Several new members entered to replace the ones who were gone. During our Senior year we were filled with sorrow when we learned that one of our former members, J. D. Bryant, had passed away. Early in our high school career our class was organized, Bobby Ellis being elected president of the Freshman class. Gene Housley was president of the Sophomore class, and Joe Dan Loudermilk served as president of both Junior and Senior classes. All of these officers have performed their duties in a most creditable manner and have always aided in the advancement of the class. We were highly successful in the field of athletics that first year in that we won both the Junior girls' and boys' Van Buren County Tournament. Ac- companied by our sponsors. Miss Reynolds, with Miss Elsie Kruger and Mr. Morse Mallett, we visited Petit Jean on a class day trip. Even though we lost many of our original number, we entered school with a bang by registering sixty-five members on September 6, 1948. We gave a tea honoring the Seniors and their parents on the campus in front of the home economics building before Baccalaureate. In our Junior year, which was begun September 10, 1949, we came to the realization that we could no longer bluff about our work but must put our noses to the grindstone and dig in. Gloria Musgrave was chosen Miss Van Buren County during the county fair and of course we had the big head over that. We were highly successful in producing our Junior play, Unfinished Business , which was directed by our sponsor, Miss Elsie Kruger. Also we entertained the Seniors with the annual Junior-Senior banquet which was held at El Corazon Contento Cafe , the theme being South of the Border . The Hillbilly was turned over to us during the last semester and to our surprise we produced some pretty fair copies. Several members of our class also assist- ed the Seniors on the Torch. One of the most exciting dates of this year was the day we selected our class rings. We entered September 4, 1950, with fifty-four serious minded Seniors. Even though we were light-hearted the weight of the world seemed to lie on our shoulders. Again one of our class members, Wilma Presley, won the title of Miss Van Buren County and June Bond was elected as Homecoming queen. Of course everyone was excited, happy, and perhaps starry-eyed the days on which we received our class rings, and ordered our caps and gowns, invitations, and cards. This made us come to the realization that Com- mencement was just around the corner. As our class play we selected Acci- dental Hero under the direction of our sponsor, Miss Elsie Kruger. We en- joyed immensely our class trip even though we were rather tired to return to our final exams. The climax of our lives in high school came the day we hung our composite picture on the wall, a pledge that we would never forget, and (we hope) would never be forgotten. Page 13
