The Seniors decid- ed to use red roses for the class i 4 VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE DEPART!'ENT We feel that the vocational agriculture department has been making progress along with the «ther departments of the Clinton State Vocational Training School. ’ ' e are extremely proud of the new classroom and shop addition to our building, Dy making these expansions in both buildings and equipment we are now in a much better position to give training to the sixty five high school students enrolled in regular classes and to the two hundred and sixteen votrans enrolled in the on-the-farm training program. Of course wo have by no means reached our goals—there is still plenty of vrork to be done and improvements to be made. i P. H. A. V,‘ith modern equipment they prepare tonpting, wholesome meals, design and make their clothing, loarn fur- niture and flower arrangement. Leadership abilities aro developed through the F. a. A., national organization for future homemakers of America. In this organization girls learn how to associato with people and to fit into any group with ease. The home economics department also serves as a training field for future teachers. MUNTY CHAMPS The Clinton Senior Girls' Basketball Team won the Van Buren County Championship by defeating the Scotland Senior girls 28 to 27. Southside, Shirley, Scotland and Clinton had teams in the senior girls' division. The preliminary play-off put Scotland winner over Southside and Clinton victor over Shirley, into the finals. The game was close all four quarters. In the last minute of the game Clinton lagged by one point. Polly Lefl r's deliberate miss of a free shot gave Sue Kidd an opportunity to score the necessary two points for a lead. Seconds later the game ended with the score Clinton 28, Scotland 27. The Senior girls were victorious in another tournament when they defeated Scotland 39 to 37 In the Formosa Invitation Tournament. The climax of competitive play came in the District Tournament at Plumerville, where the Senior girls won over Southside and Conway, only to be defeated in the semi-final3 by Mt. Vernon 31 to 33. Four  ew class rooms and a school store have been added. The old build- ing has been remodeled so as to provide rest rooms for boys and girls, two offices, and storage spe-e, The cur- riculum has been broadened by the addition of four new courses, chemistiy, second year algebra, general math, and occupations. On the preceding page are pictures of some of the in- completed class rocns showing the modern trend for pleas- ant, spacious, and comfortable school buildings. Our class, composed of eighty-four noisy Freshmen, stormed through the halls and filled the class-rooms to overflowing in our efforts to become a part of ohis school. POEhaps, as Freshmen, we were slightly conceited be- cause of the lar e number enrolled in our class, but since upper classmen take Stery little notice of the things Fresh- men do or say, our feeling of self-importance was probably overlooked. During our Sophomore year, we lost a few of our class- mates and picked up a few more along the way which brought our total number down to seventy-five. Ruth Tomlinson had the honor of being chosen home-coming Queen. Some of our boys made the football squad. The school year of 19U7-U8 marked the beyinning of our real work. Up until that i'.ne re had rorxed a liitla, played a lot, and bluffed about the amount of work we did. This year four of the Junior girls were Home-coming ,1aids and Bonnie Sue Smith acted as Queen for the opposing team. Three of our girls and four of our boys were on the Senior basketball teams. Several members of our class became assistants on the HILLBILLY and on the TCP.CH in our Junior vear. In March of 'L8 v e presented the play, This S3 the Life , On May 7, 19L8, we entertained the Seniors with a banquet at Twelve Gaks . Our Senior year finally came with loads of work, a few extra privileges, and, of course, the excitement and the prestige of just being a Senior.
