Each Season brought its own excitements and rewards. Now that the year is over many of the stu- dents, especially the seniors, look forward to the fall when a new school life begins. The climax of the even- ing came when Delva Heavilon was crowned Homecoming Queen. Nite Watchmenn play rock tunes at dance. Teachers instill spirit at pep session. Viva Mexico? Prairie's marching band leads the way for Santa. Christmas wasn't the only vacation many CP students had this winter. An epidemic of what was called HHong Kong V Flun caused as many as 150 absences several days before Christmas. The so called 'epidemicn caused the cancellation of many Christmas activities including the Christmas Concert and the Christmas Dance. Prairie, however, did their best to spread the Christmas spirit with var- ious Christmas trees and decorations around the school. Ring my chimes. The Gophers played an improved season beat- ing Thorntown, Westfield and Carroll. This year's pep club was the biggest and most spir- ited in CP history. The Varsity Pep Band and Prairiettes also did their best to increase the spirit and excitement at this year's home ballgames. To the seniors spring meant the usual outbreak of senioritis and the counting of the days until graduation. Spring brought many honors to CP. On March 27, Mr. McDaniel was notified that CP had received accredidation by the North Central Accrediting Association. The Gopher's Q22 received national honors in the TB press project. Mr. Alward looks at Tom sta1ey's Champion Exhibit Science Fair-A Time to Experiment On March 6th the Science Club sponsored the annual CP Scienc Fair. This year there were 55 EB Sr. Biology winners Dianna Loveless G Rex Walker entries in the Junior Division and 35 entries in the Senior Division. The variety show was held March 14th in the multipurpose room. Susie Peters and Lois Friedrich served as misstresses of ceremonies in this year's show. The acts ranged from musical acts per- formed by such groups as Prairie Singers and the MJB and comedy skits performed by such renowned stars as Miss Oregano and the Paper Gopher. Go! Mike Rains 1968- 69 Notables Alternates Mark Simmons and Ellen Weflen Mark Rains and Marilyn Grimes each attended a week of Hoosier Boy's State and Hoosier Girl's State at Indiana University. The delegates and the alternates,Mark Simmons and Ellen Weflen, were selected because of their interest in government. Each year the Colfax American Legion awards an outstanding eighth grade boy and girl. This award, given on A Honors Day, is made on the basis of the stu- dents' scholarship and leadership. The 1968 recipients of this award were Mike Rains and Carolyn Sheehan. Carolyn Sheehan Beverly Rodgers has been named 1969 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for Clinton Prairie High School on the basis of her score in a written knowledge and attitude test on homemakers given senior Beverly's achievement has made her eligible for state and national scholarships She also has been a- warded a specially designed silver charm from General Mills, sponsor of the Betty Crocker Search for the American Homemaker of Tomorrow. Larry Shaffer received rocognition as Senior Bandsman for his four years of work in the Clinton Prairie band. Larry plays clarinet ln the concert band and baritone sax in the stage band and marching band Selection of the Bands- man is made by points accumulated by band members during their four years Bev Rodgers, Betty Crocker Future Homemaker Award Marilyn Grimes, the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution award, was selected on the basis of her dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. She took a test in November on world and national affairs and the history of Indiana. Marilyn was the first girl from CP to win the county DAR award Senior Bandsman Larry Shaffer Top UP Beau ty CP's halls are filled with quite a lot of beauty. Some of the -most outstanding examples are found on these two pages. Delva Heavilon was crowned Homecoming Queen. The members of her court included seniors Vic P Guffy and Chylene Neal, junior Dawn McCorkle, sophomore Rhonda Larsh, and freshman Debbie McKinsey. Chylene Neal was cho- sen by the members of the CP FFA chapter as their Chapter Sweetheart. CP had five girls par- ticipate in the county Jr. Miss Contest in Oct. The five girls included Susie Peters, Cindy Pletch, Ellen Weflen, Mary Harden and Suzie Clendenning. Mark Simmons and Jim Holloway were chosen as National Merit Scholarship Finalists. In addition, they were honored by being elected to the Society of Outstanding High School Students. CP Exchange Students Ellen weflen was a guest in a home in Guatemala City, Guat emala, for the month of August Ellen, selected by the Syca- more Girl Scout Council, was chosen on the basis of Scout achievement and school accom- plishments. Ellen observed classes in an all-girl educational center of about 1200 students. Susana Mena, a native of Qu Ecuador, studied at Clinton Prairie for the 68-69 school year. Chorus provides vocal training and extra-curricular activities. The chorus members participate in concerts. A Time for Singing The Prairie Singers highlighted their season by doing a commercial for W.I.L.O. 'gap This year's Stage Band performed several times including the Variety Show and Colfax Alumni Dance. Prize Winning The Clinton Prairie Concert and Marching Bands have had a busy year. The Marching Band performed at each football game and in the Christmas Parade. The Concert Band presented several convocations and concerts. They at- tended the State Band Contest. The Pep Band plays a variety of snappy tunes to aid the student body in instilling spirit into the varsity teams. Prairie Bands Leadfmg the Band The Prairiettes performed at roothali and basketball games and led the marching band in the Christmas Parade. A Delva Heavilon was the head twirler this year Drum majors, Susie Peters and Ken Doty, led the band through a successful marching season. Future Mus downs Junior High Band teaches young musicians skills which will be useful in the Senior High Band. Freshman chorus prepares members for high school singing. The real heart- breaker of the season came when they lost to Carroll by l point in the Homecoming game. The awards winners this year are from left to right: John Israel-outstand- ing offensive lineman, Curt Lock-outstanding defensive back, and Mark Rains, outstand- ing offensive back.
