'-A ll S tate '-All Conference 0 The Red Tornadoes' football eleven marched once again to their 4th consecutive conference title although this year they had to share the crown with the Altus Bull- dogs as district co-champions. At the start of the season the outlook was dim but the never-give-up Tornadoes brightened the seasonal picture with their 13 to l2 victory over the strong Walters' Blue-Devils in the season's opener. The following weeks found the Tornadoes matched against the Elk City Elks, a two touchdown favorite, but the fighting Reds once again proved their strength by defeating the Elks 2.0 to 12. The next week Clinton suffering its first defeat of the season at the hand of the strong El Reno Indians, the top team in the state at that time, 32 to 0. But the Big Reds came back fighting to maul the Hollis Tigers Z6 to 7. Homecoming was made a success by the Tornadoes' defeating Mangum 48 to O. The next Tornado victims were Anadarko 26 to 6 and Frederick 26 to 0. Then came the Big Reds' second loss of the season to the favored Lawton Wolverines in a nip- and-tuck battle in which the Wolverines emerged with a 19 to 13 victory. The Clinton eleven came back to defeat Hobart 45 to 19 only to lose to the strong Altus Bulldogs the next week Z8 to 41 thus making both teams co-champions of district 1-A. 70 -an , 5 s '. Although the quintet was eliminated from the second round of the regional playoffs by Woodward, they ended the season with a 21 to 7 recordg losing only by narrow margins as illustrated by the one point loss to Woodward and Capitol Hill It was Jap Blankenship who led the year's scoring with a fourteen point plus average, followed closely by Wayne Goucher and Clay Ped igo with ten and eight point averages respectively Coach Otis Delaporte once again proved his worth in producing another better-than-average team in '53.
