1951--BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 Ina Mae Cates Address Unknown A wi' .. f ' .1 ' F. .jf Q2 . Junior Cometsevah 1716 Prairie Chief Clinton, OK 73601 15803 323-1913 1951 Junior Cometsevah, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Laird Cometsevah is one of the most versatile athletes ever to attend Clinton high school with performances in football, baseball, track and basketball. He was honored as an All-State end on the Enid Morning News team of 1950. He was All- district in football. Junior is now in the Air force and is attending a dental technicians school at Great Lakes Naval Training Station near Chicago. 2001 I enlisted in the Air Force Medical Corp and sewed 13 months in Korea. My wife Colleen and I were raised in homes where the Cheyenne language was very fluent. Because of this we were able to tell the life of the Cheyenne. I am retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and am now helping with the Cheyenne Arapaho Elderly Nutrition Center. For a hobby, I like to work with arts and cralis. I have six children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. My brother's grandchildren are my grandchildren also. My wife and I are working as consultants for the National Park Service to establish a National Historical Site in southeast Colorado commonly known as Sand Creek Massacre, November 29, 1864. We have worked with Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell and House of Representative Bob Shaifer. On March 23, 1998, I was invited to Washington, D.C. to give testimony before the Senate Hearing Committee to support the historical site under the National Park Service. October 6, 1998 I was invited to the Oval Oliice in the White House to witness President Clinton signing the bill into law. Over 400 artifacts have been located in this area and they will be displayed by the National Park Service when the building is established on this site. In 1999 I was invited again to the Senate Hearing Committee to support a bill for appropriations to buy this property for the National Park Service. On occasion, I have been an advisor to the film industry and was once interviewed in my home by Marlon Brando. My wife and I became interested in Cheyenne historical events since my wife is a descendent of Chief Black Kettle, and Chief Black Kettle and my grandfather were at the 1868 Washita Massacre at Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Chief Black Kettle was murdered but my grandfather survived. General Custer came from Fort Supply south to Cheyenne to Black Kettle's village and attacked while they were sleeping early in the morning on November 27, 1868. The remainder of the Cheyenne wandered around and settled 20 miles south of Amarillo, Texas at Palo
