We stayed there for two and a half years and in 1953 we moved to Clinton and run the PeeWee Grill for a couple of years. ln 1955 we opened a Maytag store but more importantly 1 went back to high school and finished in 1956. By this time we had two children. ln 1960 Truman became a preacher and we moved to a church in Rocky where we also farmed for three years. In 1963 we moved to Colony, 1 attended an advanced beauty school in 1970 and began working in a bank in 1974-1976. ln august 1976 we opened a cafe in Colony and began catering in 1980. We are still in that business plus we started a bed and breakfast and a wedding chapel in 1998. We are definitely not retired. We have three children and four grand children. We have been and still are very busy. Quay Ann fBentonj Grunewald 817 Blackburn Grand Prairie, TX 75050 1951 Quay Ann Benton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Benton, 224 North Eleventh, another graduating senior is planning to he a music teacher after she graduates from college with a Bachelor cy' Music education. At Clinton High School this year she won the annual Northrup Music Award and letter in vocal and instrumental music. Miss Benton has attended Clinton Schools for twelve years. She attended Nance and Washington grade schools. 2001 After the big G day in 1951, 1 attended OSU QOAMC, in those daysj until that Hfatefulw day in 1953 when I married Kenneth Grunewald. But we have come 1951--BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 through these past 48 yer without too many bruises, and we are fairly well intact! Really though it's been a great marriage and hardly seems possible that we are itsenior citizens? Ken had eight brothers and sisters, so I, being the only one, inherited a large wonderful family. It took me a couple of years to get use to this, but how thankful I am now, and have been through the years, for all of them. Just before we were married, Ken was inducted into the Army, so we spent the first two years of marriage in San Antonio, Texas. After his stint there, we moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma to finish our schooling. We both needed about the same amount of' hours to finish. He majored in sports and I in music. Since he wanted to be a coach and teach. I decided to get my degree in music education and teach also. I was with childs' when we returned to Weatherford so it took me a little longer to finish, but we graduated together in the summer of 1957. Our first child, a boy, Kevin was born in 1955. He is now 45 years old and he is also a teacher. He played professional golf for several years after graduating from TCU. He also married a teacher and went back to school to get his teaching certificate, He and his wife, Teresa, both teach in the Mansfield CTXJ I.S.D. He teaches high school chemistry and she works in the ESL Cteaching other languagesl. They have two daughters, Laura, 15 and Katy Ann, age 10. Our first jobs after graduation were in Mooreland, OK. We spent four years there, Ken being basketball coach and assistant football coach. I taught music in the elementary grades and private lessons, also. While in Mooreland, our second child was born, a girl named Karla. She is married and owns and works in her beauty salon in Grand Prairie. She and her husband have two daughters, Alane, 8 years and Alison, 6 years of' age. Alan is with Southwest Airlines, CWe get a free ticket now and thenj. Alter our four years in Mooreland, we were in Wellington, TX. for only a year before moving on to Arlington, Texas in 1962. Ken again coached several schools in Arlington, where he retired with 35 years in 1989. I taught music again, until 1977. During this time our little caboose', came along. Kelly was bom in 1968. After his college days, he turned professional in golf He has played a lot of the mini-tours since 1992. Last year he played on the Buy.com fOld Nike tourl and was among the top 15 money winners CS200,000j. So that qualified him to play on the PGA tour. this being his first year. He and his wife Kelley falsoj have one daughter, Riley, 2 years old. They live across the street from our daughter here in Grand Prairie. We are so proud and thankful for our three children and that they all live so close. Needless to say, Ken and I have spent a good deal of traveling all over to watch Kelly play golff Ken plays golf nearly every day, also when we are at home. I love to read, read, read! I also have done lots of handwork fknitting. crocheting, needlepointj through the years and still do when the mood strikes me. I quit teaching in 1977, had just had enough of it. I have had several ucareersw, trying to find another Pnichei' I guess. I worked for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club from its inception in 1971-1982. this was mostly part-time and in the summer I was still teaching. I worked there afitll- timei' from 1979-1982. Had lots of fun and enjoyed it tremendously! I also studied Real Estate and got my license only to find out it just wasnit my cup of tea. I purchase a small antique-resale shop in Grand Prairie, and had fun fnot much profitj with that for a couple of years before closing up. 1951-BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 Then for a few years, I just did substitute teaching now and then until I took a course in scoping and note reading in courtroom stenography. Alter Bnishing that, the school asked me to stay on and teach court-reporting theory and English. So I was with them from 1989-1993. At that time I had my mother with us and I really needed to stay with her more and more, so I quit teaching, although it was a very fulfilling job. As it happens, I lost my mother just this past week. She was 89. I lost my dad in 1971, two years after they pulled up stakes in Clinton and moved here to be near us and again help in the babysitting department. Our 'ffamily togethernessn thing for my family has always been golf- as we all have played, and played together a lot of the time. I haven't been able to play much the past 10 years because of back problems. However, we are still in the baby-sittingu mode when we are needed, so all-in-all, we don't let much grass grow under our feet. God has given us so many blessings and we have so much to b thankfill for. Sure goes by in a hurry, doesnit it, my friends? For all of you who have taken time to calllwrite me, thank you so much. I know it must be a tremendous thing to organize all of this. I think it's great, and the Lord willing, 1,11 see all of you in Jtme. Upon returning to the U.S., I decided to make the Air Force a career. Several assigmnents later, while stationed at Tinker AFB, I met my wife to be ....... Dorothy Butler of Oklahoma City. We were married in 1956. Our first daughter, Deborah, was bom in 1957, and our youngest daughter, Cynthia, arrived in 1958 while stationed in San Antonio, Texas. We enjoyed some great tours of duty, including two assigmnents in Germany. Our travels throughout Europe were some of the best times in our lives. 1951--BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 I returned to the U.S. in 1972 and retired from the Air Force. After searching for another career, in 1973 opened a Restaurant and Club in Edmond OK ...... Old Dodge Cityv... located in the Trails End Shopping Center. For the next twelve years we found the long days and nights both rewarding and challenging. My wife and daughters often joined me in the business and contribute greatly to our success. In 1986 we chose to close the Restaurant, mostly due to the changed economy. After becoming a partner in several other endeavors, I was persuaded to join a Kansas agricultural firm that required much travel. In enjoyed the work and people contact, however found the long periods away from home lonely and stressful. I retired for good in 1995 and must admit we enjoy not having a structured routine. Our daughter Deborah married her Baker University beau, lives in Shawnee, Kansas and presented us with a grandson in 1993. Daughter Cynthia lives in Ft Collins, CO and enjoys her career as an Administrative Assistant. I play as much golf as possible and we travel often. Dorothy and I will celebrate our 450' Anniversary this summer and we are planning a trip back to Europe later this year. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Reunion! Not quite so. We were manied ahnost 11 years when we got divorced. We traveled a lot with his work and got to see a lot of Oklahoma and many of the northwestem states. We had two beautiful baby girls, Jacqueline in 1952 and Dena in 1961 My daughters and I moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where we lived for two years when I married again in 1963. We moved to Houston Texas at that time and one year later my tiny 4-pound son, Alan was born. He's definitely not tiny now though! We lived in Houston for two years then moved to Michigan where I nearly froze to death for two years, then moved back to Houston and moved back into the same little Barbie Housew. I still live in today. This old house and I have been together for about 35 years and plan on being together 'til the end. My second husband and I were divorced after 20 years of marriage The say that the third time the charm so I felt sure I had finally found my 'fsoul matew when I remarried again. We traveled a lot with his work and I saw a lot more of America-this time the westem states and always came back to my dear old house. We didnit have any children. 1951-BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 my three were already grown and away from home and He didn't have any. We were married iiiteen years and were divorced in 1999. It took a long time, but I finally came to the conclusion that there is no soul mate out there for me. I realized my life long dream of becoming a professional dancer after years of classes and training. I was a belly dancer and not only danced but designed and made many of the costumes for myself as well as for other dancers. I dearly loved dancing at charity ftmctions such as the Shriners , Lancer Frmd Raisers, the VFW, American Legion, birthdays, anniversaries and of course some of the night clubs. But now I can no longer dance or do much of anything. In 1979, I had a mastectomy and had silicone gel implants inserted as advised by my doctor. I was told the implants were perfectly safe, but not so. I had the implants removed in 1992, but too lateg they had already leaked silicone throughout my body and now I have silicone poisoning. I'm disabled and cannot get very far from home. I'm thankful for my menagerie of cats and dogs who keep me company and seem to understand everything I say to them. They keep me laughing with their lilnny antics and I love them very much. They're my babies. I have live grandchildren, one girl and four boys, plus one step granddaughter. They are most precious to me. I've had a good full life and have God to thank for that. He's with me every minute of the day and night. I'd dearly love to be at the reunion, but since I can't, my prayers and best wishes are with all of you. His three kids are just like him. You might say he was like Will Rogers. I'm sure he know most all of the girls at CHS. He lost his battle with cancer on May l4 ', 1996, at the age of 63. He took his blue healer, Jake, to feed his cattle every day except for the last two weeks of his life. He dept the faith and never gave up. Our church was packed upstairs and downstairs with family, church family and Biends for his funeral. When I look back on my life, the dreams I had in high school were not possible. I wanted to go to fashion design school. I have found something worthwhile to do which gives me great self-esteem. Clinton has a new bridal and formal wear business. The store is filled with gorgeous beaded pageant gowns, prom dresses and bridal gowns. For six years I've altered dresses for Dotties and live tried to make every dress a perfect fit. I've always loved beautiful clothes and this has helped fulfill my dream! My life is still good with my children and grandchildren. My mother is still living on the farm. On June 28'h, 2001, she will be 94 years old. She drives seven miles to town. She still teaches her ladies Sunday School Class. I also have three brothers and one sister who live here. We are a very close and loving family and I have much to be thankful for. ,Zvgif . fi' if, ' . -4, ff ,Fila J--75 . ,ilfi-fits. A f .., I 9' 7 - Ef 1 , ' xl 1 ft .ar f Deloris fNickleJ Kliewer P.O. A career that choose me began when I went to work for Tejas Girl Scout Council as a membership specialist. In 1970, I transferred to Tyler, Texas, traveling an eleven county area for the Girl Scout Council. My children were growing, playing ball, going to camp, and numerous other activities, as we led a very busy life during that time. In late 1973, 1 married John Vossen, then in 1974 moved back to Oklahoma. During the ensuing years, I worked in the insurance business and directed a church choir. In 1985, I was employed by the Methodist Church Skyline Urban Ministry as director of vohmteer services. In 1989, found me single again and returning to girl scouting as I moved to Woodward, Oklahoma. By this time my children were grown and on their ovsm. In 1991, I returned to Oklahoma City as director of membership services for 1951-BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 Redland Council of Girl Scouts. Life was good! In 1998, I retired-No one has ever wanted to retire as much as I did! Now I had a chance to make the rest of my life the best of my life . I have a wonderlill group of new friends, wonderful caring children, four grandchildren, and a host of new activities. Over the years my hobbies have been sewing, gardening, and numerous craft projects-now I enjoy these more than ever. My health has not been the best it could be, but am blessed to be as active as possible, enjoying life to the fullest. Seeing old friends, as the reunion 2001 planning committee has worked to make this aan event to remembern, has really been a joy! I am excited about seeing the rest of my classmates in June. Besides being a member of the Glee Club Bob has participated in track and baseball. Before coming here he attended school at Broken Arrow and Okemah grade schools, Heavener and Tulsa Junior High and Central High School. Bob wants to become a concert or radio singer in the future. 2001 How do I condense 50 years into a few short paragraphs? I am not known for being brief but here goes. Alter graduation in 151, I attended OCU in Okla City for one year, transferred to OU, got drafted in October '54, spent two years at Ft Bliss Ctotally lost yearsj, got married in June, 1956, early release from Army and went back to OU where I graduated with a B of Vocal Music Education in 1959. Moved to Pahn Springs, CA in August 159. My wife, Helen, taught in the schools there and since I could not find a teaching job, I first worked for a swimming pool company and then got on the Palm Springs Fire Department where I spent the next 2 and ll2 years. Moved to Redlands, CA in November, '62. Helen stopped teaching when we had our first daughter in 1961 and got a job on the San Bemardino County Welfare Department. All during this time, I had been performing with various musical theaters and was taking voice lessons with a teacher at the University of Redlands. I auditioned for a professional Musical Theater in Anaheim, CA and was hired in the resident chorus and promptly quit my welfare job. That was in 1963. I became a member of Actors Equity and for the next four years worked constantly in various musical theaters in Southem California and Arizona. I started getting some t'ghost', and back-up singing jobs in various movies, such as '4Goodbye Columbus , On a Clear Dayn, and got to do lots of solo work in Paint Your Wagonv. And if you look really fast, you could see me on camera in t'Fun with Dick and Jane . During the 150' Anniversary of Disneyland, I appeared in a musical revue all summer and our second daughter as born during that summer of 1970. I also started singing opera again. I did two tours covering the Western United States in 372 84 '74 singing Figaro in the Barber of Seville. This led to a job with a company that performed operas for schools. This in turn led to helping found an educational opera company, Orange County Opera, in 1976. My friends who were the co- founders and chief honchos of the company, moved to NYC in 1979 and asked me to take over the company for a couple of years. Well, I have been the Artistic Director since 1979 and recently was elected President of the company as well. Because of the daily performances of the opera company, I sorta lost out on the 1951-BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 movie singing gigs- and probably more so than adult audiences. I also keep my hand in the Musical Theater field by doing guest appearances with various companies-usually in the summer months. This summer, for instance, I am appearing in a show call 6'Tintypes', in a summer repertory company here in Redlands. Also have performed the lead in Sweeney Toddw a couple of runs in the last 10 years. The opera company really keeps me pretty busy since I not only direct the shows, hire the singers, etc, but I also take care of the business end. However, I am starting to train my replacement and hope to sorta 'fease out of it in the next year or two. Helen is thinking about retiring but can't quite bring herself to really do it. Our first daughter is sorta helping push us more toward retirement since she and her parents live in Napa-wine country!-and we live in Southem California! I wish you all well. Sorry I will not be able to attend the 50'h Bash. COh yes, I forgot to explain that 'fChristopher,, is my stage name. Bob and Robert were already taken. It only coniiises Helen and me.j - . w I ,,,' .- Boyd Weddle iii if 3400 E Alexander Drive Haltom City, TX 76117 C8171 222-0068 1951 Serving as vice President of the T I. Selecting English as his favorite high school subject, he plans to go to college and hopes to some day become an English teacher. The son of Mr. and Mrs. JE. Weddle, 1517 Dunn, James attended school at Greenfield before moving to Clinton. 2001 What do you say about yourself alter filly years of non-commtmication? Its been a great life with its ups and downs, not particularly exciting or extremely successiiil by some standards, but extremely satisfying. Today I looked at the annuals from our high school years and the memories they brought up led to even more, so here goes, In August of '51, after graduation, I moved to California to be with my parents, who had moved there in April, job Opporttmity you know. So job hunting landed me at S.H. Kress and company in Salinas, ran up and down stairs so much I lost 50 pounds and then became Jim instead of Boyd. Spent a couple of years there, moving up to asst Mgr and Mgr. Then the Army called. Went into the Army in '53. While working at Kresses, I usually ate my meals next door at the 'fBurger Pitv. The Hrst day I went in, there was a red haired waitress by the name of Mary who waited on me. I sat down, she gave me a menu, I reached into her pocket and got a quarter and played the juke-box. She didnit knock my head oif so we became good friends. After going into the Army at camp San Luis Obispo, California, then to Fort Meade, MD and Camp Pickett, VA, I received orders for Alaska. I proposed, was accepted and got married March 28, 154. To Mary ofcourse. 1951-BIOGRAPHICAL UPDATES--2001 Two years later we were blessed with a daughter, Michelle Dean, Aug 56, thirteen months later, a son, James Boyd Jr, Sept, 657 and twenty months alter that, another daughter, Merri Elayne, July '59. In Nov '85, Merri presented us with our one and only grandchild, a boy, Shawn Jacob now nearing that dread sixteenth birthday I am sure we all remember. Unfortunately, Jimmy was killed in an accident in September, '79 just short of his 22 birthday. Worked with Edison Brothers Stores Inc. for 29 years, retiring in 81. went into management with Sambos Restaurant very shortly thereafter and stayed in this field for seventeen years with three dilTerent chains plus opening an independent steak house in WY. Retired again in '97. This one lasted two weeks and then to work for Eckerds Drug Company in Fort Worth, TX. I'll probably work there 'til I'm a hundred and tive and die the next day. After two previous retirements, I have no desire to retire again. Where have I lived? Oklahoma, of course, California, Ccivilianj Maryland, Virginia, Washington, and Alaska Cmilitaryj and Arizona, Wyoming, Montana and iinally Texas fcivilian againj. As I said, at the beginning not a terribly exciting nor highly successful life, but ultimately satisiying. A wife of 47 years, two daughters, and a grandson who loves me, two sons in law, Richard CMichellej, and Joe CMerriJ who tolerate me, a decent home, my health, a satisfying job with a super boss, and good friends, old and new. Who could ask for anything more? d The first school was built where the Clinton Daily News was later located. 0 L.
