Used by members in all recognized units of the organ-. ization, it is made up of five sym- bols: the owl,'the plow, and the rising sun within the cross section of an ear of com, which is sur- mounted by the American Eagle. Upon the face of the emblem ap- pear also the words, Vocational Agriculture and the letters MF. F. A. . The owl is symbolic of wisdom and knowledge, the low is the symbol of labor and tiYlage of the soil, the rising sun is em- blematic of progress and the new day that will dawn when all farm- ers are trained and have learned to cooperateg the cross section of an ear of com represents common agricultural interests since corn is native to America and grown in every State: and the eagle ig in. dicative of the national scope of the organization, The Future Farmers of America is a national farm youth organization made up of boys of high school age who are enrolled in Vocational Agriculture. This is a regular four year high school subject designed to assist farm boys I to become established in the business of farming and to teach them to appreciate and use improved methods of farmin g. The Clinton FFA Chapter is one of the oldest- in the State and is designated as Cha ter Number 9. There are four degrees of membership through which a member may advance. First year BIULDB in Vocational Agri- culture hold the Green Hand Degree for one year. At the end of that time, if they have profitably invested as much as twenty-five dollars in the business of farming, they are raised to the degree of Future Farmer. This degree is held until such time as the member has progressed in lead- ship ability, eamings, and size of farming .operations to the point where he can make application for the State Farmer Degree, which is conferred each year, by the State As- sociation, upon the sixty or seventy top ranking members in the State. The Clinton Chapter has had, seventeen members elevated to this degree. The highest degree which can be attained is that of American Famxer. Each year the National Association per- mits each State Association to make one application, for this degree, for each one thou- sand members enrolled. To receive this degreeais to be truly accepted as a leader in the field of agriculture and famiing Three former Clinton members have received this honor During the past year forty-seven members of this chapter completed eighty-one productive enterprise projects to eam a labor income of 84-,197.17. Improvement projects and sup plementary farm jobs completed were too numerous to list. At present fifty members have one hundred projects under way and have over 813,000 invested in the business of farming. The belief that this community is fitted to the production of livestock and feed has led to the sponsorship of a livestock improvement program that has paid large dividends. Conse- quently, the exhibition of livestock at County, State and Na- tional Livestock Shows has always been an important part of the program of the Clinton Chapter. Four State Champion Livestock Judging Teams, one in Dairy Judging, one in Poultry Jud 'ng. one Grand Champion at the American Royal Live- stock! Show, three at the Oklahoma State Fair, three at the State Junior Livestock Show and numerous ones at County and District Shows attest to the interest in, and success of, this pro- am. gr Of the two hundred twenty former members of this chap- ter, sixty-six percent are now engaged in farming and most of them are located in this community. Several more are engaged in agricultural occupations other than fanning and many are enrolled in Agricultural College. Over one hundred former members were in the armed forces during World War ll and special tribute is paid to eight of these who will never return. Annual activities of which the Chapter are particularily proud are: operation of a fami machinery repair shop in the Vocational Agriculture Building, articipation in County, Dis- trict and State Shows and Exhibitions, the annual summer outing held in the Wichita Mountains each summer, and the participation in all school functions. The continued support and assistance of our Hi h School Superintendent and Principal, the local Board of Education, as well as the business men and Civic Clubs of Clinton have contributed to the development of one of the high ranking chaptars in the state D , -, . r:::hwvzx a,,, F,,':y,?V I f , .:.
