Your race is almost run. For twelve long years you've set your goals. And reached them one by one. At first you thought the road too long. There didn’t seem an end. And now. the finish line is near. Around that next short bend. Too quickly now the days rush by. Too soon that final bell. These last few days before you go. Take heed, and mark them well. For when you start that fresh, new road Into your life’s next season. As you look back you now can tell For each day there was a reason. Each day. each friend, each trial and tear Have made you what you are. With all These things behind you now. We know that you’ll go far. And so. we say goodbye for now. May all your dreams come true. All the joys and beautiful things of life Are our best wishes to you. Pat Lasater Angie Huggins Greg Huie Shawn Ivanov James Jacobs Sue Jennings Robin Johnson Kathy Keko Rocky Kirkendoll Roy Kirkpatrick Tammy Kling Senioritis” Senioritis (Seniorus hyperus maximus) is a terrible disease that strikes about 99.9% of all seniors. The failure to turn in homework and skipping classes are sure signs that a student is afflicted with this disease. Other symptoms are threatening freshmen, failing tests, sleeping in class (Randy Treece should know about this one), and counting down to the last day of school. There are a few ways to slow down this illness: a lecture, an F on the report card, or if all else fails, a firm application of the board to the backside. However, the only cure for this dreadful disease is GRADUATION, 19861 Julie Lasater Shawnna Lefler Chris Mann Tammy McAleese 13 From the first day of school, it was obvious that we had changed. No longer were we just in high school , we were seniors. We had made it to the top. This year seemed to go faster than the oth- ers, and as we dreamed of the fu- ture, we couldn ’t help but remember the past. We made new friendships while others faded, we tasted suc- cess and failure, we laughed and at times we cried. As we changed from child to adult, we each devel- oped our own, distinctive, personal- ities. Though we are all different, we share a common trait. We are the graduating seniors of nineteen- hundred, eighty-six. Upper right. Esther Pipkin Jay Chalk smile for the camera during Homecoming Week. They did almost everything possible to raise dough for the Jr. Sr. Banquet S Prom. Bake sales, dances, and fruit sales at Christmas were just some of the methods they used. The Juniors found themselves taking the ASVAB. the ACT, the PSAT NMSQT, and anything else they could get a hold of. The future was on their mind as they began to think about college, and life after high school. To the Juniors it seemed like life was a never ending collage of tests, books, and college letters. Freshmen play a major role at C.H.S. While still unable to par- ticipate in all C.H.S. organizations, they are able to join some clubs such as F.H.A. and F.F.A., and Student Council. The Freshmen Class of 1986 has made the big change, Middle School to High School. That's hard to do when you're still involved with Junior Sports. This year, more Torch Staff mem- bers were involved in the overall production of the yearbook than ever before. Much hard work and many all nighters were spent work- ing on the Torch. Several Torch Staffers, besides the editors and photographers, put in overtime. Our personal thanks go out to Ken Whil- lock, Shawnna Lefler, Carol Coward, and Jamie Elliott for all the poll counting. picture cutting, typing, in- terviewing, gas, legwork, and will- ingness. The main change was a new sponsor. The re- duction of officers from 11-8 was another ma- jor difference. FHA started its year in July when the offi- cers held planning meetings. The Student Body was decided upon as a theme for the year. Participation in these activities, which ranged from a Student Body Work Shop to the annual Mother Daughter Banquet, was excel- lent. FHA was involved in a new project this year, which raised money for the Arkansas Children Hospital, called There's No Place Like Home-A Miracle Mile Away . To raise money for this project our chapter sold var ious types of food through the International Food Sales. FHA was one of the most active clubs on campus and although many changes have tak- en place in FHA. we have had an exceptionally successful year. FFA makes learning more interesting through real life experiences. Unlike normal educational programs, you are not just part of an audience. You get a piece of the action. The Clinton FFA Chapter is one the many across the U.S. that is learning by doing. The Clin- ton Chapter takes part in many Judg- ing Contests throughout the year in leadership and also skills. They also have the annual FFA Rodeo each year that takes place in May. Besides keeping the books in order, the library assistants help students find what they need. They look up books in the card catalog and show students how to find needed reference materials. The one most notable to CHS students was the hiring of a new teacher. Mrs. Anna Love, who was chosen tor this position, had done a great job in teaching and supporting her group. A whole new set of Spanish officers had also added to the changes. These officers have worked hard throughout the year, but certainly no harder than any of the other members. The club set several goals at the beginning of the year, but for various reason? the best of some of these plans were thwarted. However, as a whole the club members stayed very enthusiastic and willing to work. The Spanish Club had a dinner theater in the spring, and it was bigger than the previous year. Office Staff Seated. Ruth Duncan, Dayna Bilderback. Back: Leslie Allen. Michelle Brown. Patricia Harris. Erika Purcell. Tammy McAleese. Redessa Graham. Working on the Office Staff is one of the best jobs at Clinton High School. It gives the girls who work in the office a chance to meet the teachers and learn how to run the different machines such as the Xerox copier. Making rounds is also a big part of our job in the office. Rounds is going from class to class picking up the slips of paper that the teachers are supposed to put out when someone is absent. Another part of our job is to take messages to people and run errands. I think that the favorite part of working in the office is delivering the flowers and balloons that come in on someones birthday. As members of the office staff we have to help keep things going through rain. snow, or sunny weather and I think that we do a pretty good jobl Above and left: Leslie Allen and Dayna Bilderback work in the office. 33 Dayna Bilderback The C 34 I Fellowship Of Christian Athletes 1st row: Pat Harris. Almost all the clubs participated and the Spanish Club won with 256 points. A date usually included a movie at the Gateway Twin Cinema, a pizza at the Pizza Hut. and. yes. usually parking. When hanging out with friends, people sometimes took in a party after making the cruise through town and the Pizza Hut. For those of us who chose to venture a little farther, there was Conway with its' Cinema 6 and various eating places. Teenage night clubs such as Visions or Charlie's in Little Rock provided re- creation for some. Although Clinton isn't well known for its' night life. Clinton students always found an interesting way to spend their weekend time. 40 Making v e Score V page 58 J Page 60 SENIOR HIGH SPORTS Yellowjacket Senior Football Row I: Patrick Wiley. Mrg. Clinton finished a dissappointing third place in the 5AA North Conference. The highlight of the season was Clin- ton's winning two straight games in thrillers over Marshall and archrival Heber Springs. The Jackets' had a chance to reach their goal, the play- offs, but close losses to Vilonia and Bald Knob sealed their fate. Coaches Maxwell and Vitale said they will miss the leadership of the seniors: Rocky Kirkendoll, Ken A verett, Roy Kirkpatrick, Jay Chalk, and Randy Treece. They all had great senior years. We wish them the best as they take a great step forward in life. The seniors of '86 would like to wish next year's squad good luck and a vote of confidence that the '86-'87 Jackets can reach their goal, the Conference Championship! With their five graduating seniors, they played on years of experience and tal- ent. The season had its downs, like two disappointing losses to Mountain View, but, it also had its ups. The de- feat of Guy Perkins and Nemo Vista in the UCA Tournament, the close games against Greenbrier and South Side, and especially the defeat of Shirley at home were big moments for the team. Next year the team will be young but talented. If they work hard they’ll have a good year. It all started when eight devoted players went to Arkansas State University during the summer to a team camp. The team finished third out of twelve teams. Many things were accomplished during the off-season and this included a new offense called triple post. This was perfect for the tall team which included 6'8” Ken Whit- lock. 6'5 Dennis Berry, and 6’5 Brett Williams. Great shooting and team- work were the specialities of 6’4 Ran- dy Treece and 6'3 Charlie McNew. This height provided many problems for opposing teams. The opposition also had the problem of not knowing which player to stop because all five could take over by themselves and lead the team. Clinton did experience a few setbacks when they lost to Mor- rilton and lost a couple of games in tournaments. When the yearbook went to press the Jackets were one game away from the 5-AA North Conference championship with a 9-0 record and 15- 3 overall. The cheerleaders put forth every effort to raise spirit levels at CHS. They tried to incorporate new and exciting yells, pyramids, and dances into their performances. They were behind the teams all the way. In wins or losses, they never gave up on the Jackets. The '86 squad was exceptional in their attitudes and cooperation. The group got along extremely well. Sherrin Rich- ardson, squad sponsor, was the chief motivator . She kept the excitement up with pep talks (yes, even cheerleaders need them sometimes), and occasional overnight trips just for fun. There was a special closeness that the '86 cheerleaders shared. It is a feeling that will be remembered always. Some of the more spectacular members of the student body, the Band, and the Student CounciKwith the winning yell) are featured. The Students and faculty were all fired up as those five festive days began. Monday was Hats Off to the Jackets day. Most people wore their coolest hats and shades to school to support their team. When Tuesday came everyone went a little wild. It was Crazy Day and Lee Giezentanner was the Craziest”. We Rocked with the Jackets on Wednesday as Fifties Day rolled around. Mike Isaac was the coolest cat in town that day. On Black and Gold Day. Beverly Sturch was the most colorful person in school. The spirit was at fever pitch as everyone anticipated the big game the next day. Roy Kirkpatrick really looked classy on Friday of Homecoming Week. Better known as Dress-up Day. Friday. 4th hour, we celebrated our homecoming with a pep rally in which different clubs made up cheers to perform in the Club Yell Competition. Those people who went all out during the week. Kellie Shannon. Anna Breeden. Esther Pipkin. Charlie McNew. Melissa Ingram. Angela Sample, and Mr. Ruster. were also honored. The juniors elected were Joanie Cowsert, Darla Hicks, April Hutto. Melissa Ingram, and Susan Shell. Nikki Long, Gretchen Kirkendoll, Alisa Kling, Wendy Parish, Renia Robinette, and Denise Weatherly were the sophomore candidates. Homecoming is special for everyone at CHS, not only the royalty. But in the midst of all these changes, life went on at CHS. During the year we discovered a lot about ourselves, our friends, and life in general. We had good days, bad days, and lots of in - betweens. We studied, played, cheered, booed, fought, partied, cried a little and laughed a lot. Things changed and so did we. As time slipped away and left us with only memories, we realized what a special year it had been at CHS. And WE MADE ITIIIIIIIII
