Words cannot express all of the excitement and the experience of their week at Girl's State. During the week, the girls learned more about government, about themselves and their country. Both girls made many lasting friendships with girls in their cities, with coun- selors and with roommates during their stay. 21 Honor Students Above: These students maintained a 3.S or better grade average. The Senior Girls Team is full of energy and pep when they hit the floor for a game. All of the games they played showed the talent our girls pos- sessed. Many games were close with only a one-to- two point win or loss. The girls did, however, managed to go all the way and come home with the Country Tournament Championship. Our girls played with admirable heart and enthusiasm. They were successful in accomplishing their goal of playing each game with 110% effort. The team played with their motto in mind, ' 'All for one and one for all. 53 54 Jan Bonds Jan Boone Liz Bramlett Benita Hunt Barb Knight Katie Stevens Angie Wells Marla Bonds Delana Chalk Julie Henderson Shelley Johnson Tami Overton I Cindy Andregg Manager Coach Tommy Inebnit 55 Baseball Player AB R H 2B 3B HR SB BB SO RBI AVE. Depth and pitching were areas the Jackets were thin. Bryan Fancher returned as the only starting pitcher from the 1977 state tournament team. Although not 1 'true'' pitchers, Russell Anglin and Ronnie Isom did a respectable job on the mound. 56 The players felt disappointed in the outcome of the season, but there were bright spots. The Jackets were defeated in the UALR Tournament 1 to 0 by the eventual Class AA State Champions, Sylvan Hills. In the Ark. Tech Tournament, the Jackets defeated the Class A State Champions, Mansfield, 10 to 6. The Yellowjackets went on to the finals of that tournament, and were finally defeated 5 to 4 in the top of the ninth by Morrilton. Be- cause of bad weather the UALR and Tech Tournaments were played the same week. Clinton played at 9:00 A.M. Thursday morning and Bryan Fancher defeated McRae 6 to 3. The team drove to Russellville and defeated Mansfield, 10 to 6 at 2:00 that afternoon with Russell Anglin getting the pitching victory. On Friday Morning at 10:00 A.M. the Jackets defeated Greenbrier 6 to 2 in the semi-finals of the Tech Tournament with Isom the victory. The team came back at 1:00 P.M. to play Morrilton in the finals. The Jackets had played 4 games in 2 days, traveled central Arkansas and had no pitching arms left. Morrilton managed to defeat a very tired Jacket team, 5 to 4 in the 9th in- ping . The District was held in Marshall and Clinton defeated Salem 3 to 1 with Fancher get- ting the victory. The season ended on a 1 'sour'1 note when the Jackets were defeated by Vilonia 6 to 1 in the semi-finals. 57 Assisted by Coach Welch, Coach Koen developed a fine year for a young track team. In the team standings, Clinton High School placed 4th out of 29 teams invited to the Arkansas Tech relays at Rus- sellville . Clinton came in second at the District meet at Heber Springs.
