All-District selections for the 1976 season were Jim Eoff, Stanley Smith, Jeff Williams, Lathan Jackson, Tracy Moore, David Hogue, Russell Anglin, and Melvin Emerson. CLINTON FANS REALLY MEAN IT WHEN THEY DID THE CHEER: PROUD TO BE A JACKET! The mighty Yellowjackets fought to a 8-1-1 regular season and a tri-championship in District 12A. The team started off right by defeating Oak Grove for the first time. After coasting by Dover 19-0, they fought aggressive Bald Knob to a 7-7 tie. After beat- ing Marshall, 36-6, the Jackets hit the emotional game against rival Heber. We lost 13-0, and knew that we had to win the rest of our games to get a shot at the playoffs. They came back strong, defeating Vilonia 41-0, Yellville, 34-0, then took a long road trip to meet a supposedly tough Salem team, which the Jackets beat, 49-0. They were then prepared for their showdown with the leading Greenbriar Panthers. With tough practices all week and lots of enthusiasm, the Jackets went to a cold, muddy field to defeat the Panthers 13-6. They then took a Homecoming victory, 34-6. Clinton took their first trip to the State Playoffs as they went to Booneville. The Bear Cats defeated us 35-18 in a gallant fight by the Jackets. The Jacket defense earned the name The Wild Bunch , and they allowed only 38 points in regular season. The Wild Bunch consisted of linemen Jim Eoff, Lathan Jackson, Isaac Keeling, Randy Smith, Tracy Moore, linebackers Melvin Emerson and David Hogue, monster Russell Anglin, and backs Jeff Wil- liams, Stan Smith, and Dean Allen. An explosive offense managed to score 241 points by the strong blocking of Steve Nunley, David Hogue, Tracy Moore, Isaac Keeling, and Randy Smith, great blocking by fullback Donald McKellep and slotback Melvin Emerson. Behind this blocking, Russell Anglin was able to rush for 1300 yards and score 130 points. The blocking plus fine receivers like Dean Allen, Dennis Loven, and Mark Cowsert allowed Jeff Williams to pass for over 1000 yards, and 10 touchdowns. Mark Hunt added a good kicking game to the Jackets offense. The fans at Clinton followed their team, and were proud to be part of one of the best football teams ever to come from this area. Dennis Loven makes a fine reception against Bald Knob, which ended in a 7-7 tie. 13
