Franklin Sanders Mr. Sanders, our new superintendent, received his B.S. degree in science at Memphis State University and his M.A. degree in Educational Administration at George Peabody College. He also did advanced work at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Missouri. Mr. Jim Smith Mr. Smith, who is our new principal, received his B.A. degree from Harding and his M. Ed. degree from the University of Houston. In addition to his duties as principal, he teaches trigonometry and Algebra II. Mr. W. H. Morton Mr. Morton received his B.S.A. and M.S.E. degrees from the U. of A. He teaches agriculture and sponsors the FFA and the Junior Class. Miss Jan Smith Miss Smith received her B.A. degree from A.S.T.C. She teaches English I—II, German and sponsors the junior class. SENIOR HIGH Mr. Loyd L. Williams Mr. Williams received his B.M.E. degree from A.S.T.C. He has taken over the instruction of the C.H.S. Band and also teaches Chorus. He is also a sponsor of the Seventh grade class. Mrs. Lillian Simpson Mrs. Simpson received her B.S.E. degree from A.S.T.C. She teaches Art and English. Mrs. Polly Fulks Mrs. Fulks received her B.S.E. degree from A.S.T.C. She teaches Home Economics and sponsors the F.H.A. Mrs. Fulks taught Junior High history and geography before taking over the teaching of Home Economics. Mr. Ralph F. Hutto Mr. Hutto received his B.S.E. degree from A.S.T.C. and attended Draughons Business College. He teaches Shorthand I and II, Typing, Bookkeeping, and Secretarial Practice. Before coming to Clinton in 1954, Mr. Hutto formerly- taught at Hardy and Williford. He sponsors the Stinger. Mr. Curtis Barnes Mr. Barnes received his B.S.E. and M.S.E. degrees from A.S.T.C. He is the High School Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Elwanda Bonds Mrs. Bonds is a teachers- aide at Clinton High School. She is a graduate of Clinton High School. FACULTY Mr. Marshall Taylor Mr. Taylor received his B.A. degree from Long Beach State College. He was director of the C.H.S. Band for six years. He now teaches study hall and the home room of the 9th grade boys. Mr. Loyal Smiley Mr. Smiley attended Arkansas Tech and A.S.T.C. where he received his B.S.E. degree. He taught at Leslie before coming to Clinton. He teaches physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics. Mrs. Mae Holloway Mrs. Holloway received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Harding College. She teaches English and Speech, and she is also the sponsor of the Senior Class. Mrs. Ara Sanders Mrs. Sanders received her B.S.E. and M.S. degrees from A.S.T.C. She teaches English, sponsors the Torch, and is the high school librarian. 9 FACULTY k Mr. Ronnie Clark Mr. Clark received hisB.S.E. degree from A.S.T.C. He coaches football and the junior basketball teams. He also teaches American Government and P.E. and sponsors the Freshman class. Mr. Bill Coursey Mr. Coursey attended Louisiana State University. He teaches geometry, Algebra I, and general math. He also sponsors the Beta Club. Mr. Jerry Rose Mr. Rose received his B.S.E. degree from A.S.T.C. He is the senior basketball coach and the assistant football coach. He teaches American History and sponsors the Sophomore class. Mrs. Inez Bowling Mrs. Bowling received her B.S.E. degree from A.S.T.C. She teaches remedial reading in grade school and language improvements in Junior High. Mrs. Laura Smith Miss Smith is the Clinton High School secretary. She graduated from South Side High School. CUSTODIAN Mrs. Virginia Carroll l CURRICULUM PROVIDES SOUND TRAINING SOCIAL STUDIES M SCIENCE Mr. Smith's Algebra II students are busy applying their knowledge on test day. Two years of mathematics are required at C.H.S. Other math courses offered are general math, Algebra I and II, trigonometry, and geometry. The Typing I students are diligently at work learning the fundamentals of typing from their instructor, Mr. Hutto. Other commercial courses available are short- hand and secretarial practice. Mrs. Sellars, who is a practice teacher, lectures to the American History class. Other subjects in this field are World History and American Government. COMMERCIAL MATHEMATICS The chemistry class, shown here, seems to be hard at work discovering the elements of the world. Chemistry alternates yearly with physics. Biology and physical science complete the science courses offered at C.H.S. FOR FUTURE SUCCESS OF STUDENTS ENGLISH The English in class listens attentively as Mrs. Holloway lectures to them on the art of modern language. Four years of English are required for graduation from Clinton High School. VOCATIONAL Mrs. Fulk's Home Economic I girls are busy learning the basic principles of good table manners. Three years of home economics are offered for girls. Boys may take up to four years of agriculture. Mechanical drawing is also offered for boys. MUSIC The band, under the direction of Mr. Lloyd Williams, is trying to reach perfection before going to the band festival at Hot Springs. The band and the chorus help enrich Clinton's curriculum. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Weight lifting is just one of Clinton's athletic fields. Basketball for girls and boys and football are also offered. These sports are open on the senior, junior, and peewee level. ACTIVITIES Mr. Barnes pauses from his busy schedule as guidance counselor. The deserted campus at C.H.S. is proof that the students do stop to study. The Student Council is the governing body of the campus. It works with the administration to promote better student-teacher re- lationships. It is set up to regulate and coordinate student activities, such as class money-raising pro- jects. The Council also draws up a calendar of scheduled assembly pro- grams at the beginning of each year, in which every class and organization on campus is included. Each class is represented by two members whom they elect and their class pres- ident. The president and vice president of the Council are elected from the senior and junior classes by the entire student body for one year terms. BETA CLUB The Beta Club is a leadership-service organization of students who have good character, achievement, and attitude.
