CHS Curriculum Includes . . . Home Economics Plant or animal? Mr. Smiley’s Biology students can tell you. General Science and Physics complete the sciences being offered at CHS. Biology Since every American should know about his coun- try, all students enroll in American History. With his broad knowledge of history Mr. Barnes makes this subject very interesting. In Home Ec Mrs. Pate not only instructs girls in cooking and sewing, but includes several other units to prepare them for their role as the home makers of tomorrow. Agriculture Agri includes shop work and farm projects. Under the guidance of Mr. Morton boys strive to produce useful items in the shop. American History Page 10 BpS

MRS. BETTY PATE Mrs. Pate received her B.S.E. de- gree from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1954. She taught at Searcy before coming to Clinton in 1956. Mrs. Pate sponsors the Sophomore Class, FHA, and Sen- ior Cheerleaders. She is also manager of the High School lunch room. She teaches Home Econo- mics. MR. MARSHALL TAYLOR Mr. Taylor received his B.A. de- gree from Long Beach State Col- lege in 1954. He directed bands in the U.S. Navy and at Clarks- ville before coming to Clinton this year. Mr. Taylor is directing the C.H.S. Band and Chorus. MR. LOYAL SMILEY V Mr. Smiley has attended Arkansas State Teachers College and Ark- ansas Tech. He taught at Leslie before coming to Clinton in 1959. Mr. Smiley teaches Physics, Bio- logy, Algebra, and sponsors the Senior Class. U MR. DON YOUNG MISS ELIZABETH WINNINGHAM Miss Winningham received her B. S.E. degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1954. She taught at South Side before com- ing to Clinton in 1948. Miss Win- ningham is Librarian and teaches General Math; she is sponsor of the Junior Class and THE TORCH. Mr. Young received his B.S. E. de- gree from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1959. He coached at Fordyce before coming to Clinton this year. Mr. Young coaches all athletic teams and is sponsor of the Page 9

Many Subjects to Prepare Students for . . . World History World History from Ancient to Modern is taught by Mrs. Holloway to prepare students for this changing world. Mathematics Since Algebra is the basis for all higher math, al- most all students enroll in Algebra I, taught by Mr. Smiley. English is a required subject which teaches students .he proper form of our everyday language. Mrs. Holloway teaches Junior and Seniors this subject. English Students in Typing I learn mechanics and speed. Later Mr. Hutto puts more emphasis on accuracy. Typing Puqe 11
