CLASS HISTORY In August 1958 as Green Freshmen we stormed the doors of Clinton High School. We didn’t know what to expect but caught on rather fast. Our sponsors were Mr. Bo Morton and Mr. Loyal Smiley. We elected John Buck Graddy as our class president. Anna Lou Gardner was elected Homecoming Maid. We had several activities that year and ended the year with a grand class trip to Conway swimming at Arkansas State Teachers College and skating at Buddy's Roller Rink. Our Sophomore year began by electing Benny Gooden class president in August 1959. Mr. Loyal Smiley and Mrs. Lillian Simpson were pur class sponsors. Mary Lou Long was chosen Fair Maid and was elected Homecoming Maid. We ended our Sophomore year with a class trip to Conway, where we went swimming at the Conway swimming pool, returning home for the summer. We enrolled as Juniors with our same sponsors and elected Johnny Jolly class presi- dent. Ginger Pate was chosen Fair Maid. Glada Dewey and Ginger Pate were elected Homecoming Maids. This was a big year for all of us because we had to give the Seniors a banquet. This was the big event of the year. Everyone was assigned to a committee, leaving no free time for anyone. The theme of the banquet was Arabian Knights” and the biggest highlight of our dance was the band. The Shadows , from Arkansas State Teachers College. Our Junior year was ended with a class trip to Blanchard Springs. We explored caves, danced, and went hiking. Then began our most important year, with only 41 members remaining. Our spon- sors were Mr. Loyal Smiley and Mrs. Curtis Barnes. Becky Simmons was elected Senior class president. We sponsored the Sadie Hawkins Dance and other fund-raising pro- jects. Planning for the Senior class trip was an important part of our Senior year. Returning from our class trip, we planned for Commencement, which was held on May 14. Even after we received our diplomas, we can look back and always cherish the memories and wonderful experiences that we had during the four years we spent at Clinton High School.
