THE LATE BUS One day my friend and I were waiting for the bus. We saw some ice on the river. Let’s go down on the ice and skip school, ” my friend said. I didn't know what to do at first, but in an instant I told him I would skip school. After an hour I thought the bus had gone by.. My friend and I went out in the middle of the river, I heard a large splash and there was my friend pinned between two large pieces of ice. He yelled for help. I knew I never could get to the house in time. When I ran up the bank I saw my bus. I yelled for help and the bus driver heard me and came running to the river. He ran out on the river with me and helped me pull my friend out. We ran to my friend’s house where he changed to dry clothes. As he stood near the fire shivering he said, I don't think we'll ever try that trick again. By ROBERT WRIGHT GRADE 8 IT DOESN’T PAY In the school building Some will say It doesn’t pay. But to me, you know It isn't like the snow. That will soon melt away. It's like the ground, That will always stay. Some will giggle. Fool and play. Those are the ones who say School doesn't pay!
