962 Old Qold and Mlack Clinton High School Clinton. Published by 1962 Annual Staff Editor-in-Chief Gerry Nardi }unior Editor Sue Bentley Volume No. 47 - 1 - As you entered school this fall, you encoun- tered scores of nameless faces - - faces of students from Clinton, Dana, Hillsdale, and St. Bernice that you had seen at ball games, in 4-H. at church, or with friends. Through consolidation they had now become your classmates. It seemed such an endless task remembering their names at first, but as you attended classes, games and activities, these new students became your friends. Now there are no nameless faces, only the faces of friends who attended Clinton High with you in 1962. - 2 - (jetting Zo Know ou -3- (jetting Zo Know fou Dancers enjoyed refreshments which were served by the Cheer Club. The First Nighter sock hop, sponsored by the Cheer Club, was quite a success. About 400 students and 15 members of the faculty spent the evening getting acquainted. Carolyn Skelly won the prize for having the craziest socks. Mr. Newport welcomed the stu- dents, and music was furnished by Deno and the Boys. Wow! What crazy socks. Compliments of: Dean Holston’s Texaco - 4 - Senior Class Party Junior Class Party Getting To Know You Food, fun, games, girls - - these are the incen- tives for getting to know your fellow classmates at the class parties held each semester in the school cafeter- ia. All students agree that these events are high points on the school social calender. This year the seniors exhibited their originality by clever Halloween cos- tumes, and the juniors by a Come as You Are Party. The sophomores and freshmen entertained with skits and dancing. A new program of guidance was instituted at C.H.S. this year with the employment of a full-time Dean of Boys and Dean of Girls, Mr. Robert Burton and Mrs. Dorothy Schelsky. These two counsellors spend many hours help- ing students individually regarding personal and curricular problems. They also keep active files on complete oc- cupational information and administer and score the com- prehensive testing program in effect for all grade levels. Art I and II are new to the curriculum at C.H.S. this year. These classes were added toincrease the skill of the many talented students who like to express themselves in painting, working in clay, and drawing. The course in Driver's Training teaches the actual operation of the car and safety rules of the road. Students are aided by classroom study and driving practice under varied conditions. A student who wishes to take driver's training must be 15 1 2 years of age at the beginning of the school year. Health class is a one-semester course re- quired of all students in which they become fam- iliar with the structure and functioning of the human body, personal hygiene, and first aid. Physical Education is required of all students for two years. A program in which they learn basketball, volleyball, softball, tumbling and practice conditioning exercises, helps to develop physical fitness. Each year this department pre- sents a show displaying its skill in various physical activities. Gym class practices push-ups. Lynda Ferro displays a model of the human brain to Health class. Compliments of: An almost completely revamped coaching corps tutored the Wildcats this year, but lack of an appreci- able amount of football-playing experience and depth on the first-string unit was a stumbling block to a win- ning season. Clinton romped to its seasonal debut over Green- castle. 27 to 12. The Wildcats then suffered five suc- cessive defeats until a victory over Linton boosted their morale. Coach Svyantek substituted freely in all games to give the underclassmen experience. The development of elementary students for football this year is an at- tempt by the coaches to produce more experienced players by the time high school is reached. The Wildcats will have a strong nucleus of letter- men returning next year, including a bulk of rhinnies who have gained much experience this season. Bonacorsi Brothers Bonomo's I.G. A.
