The Wildcats experienced defeat only from the most ex- cellent of competition, referring to Wiley, Bloomington, and Sullivan. The Linton game was a real heartbreaker as the Miners squeaked a two point decision. The boys displayed their true style in downing two very good teams from Terre Haute, Garfield and Gerstmeyer. Although Coach Sanders will certainly miss the outstanding play of many of the graduating seniors, the odds are high that next year Clinton will again harbor a fine team. The scores for this season are Dugger 6 Clinton 19 Gerstmeyer 7 Clinton 13 Westville 6 Clinton 21 Garfield 7 Clinton 12 Bloomington 26 Clinton 0 Sullivan 35 Clinton 19 Wiley 25 Clinton 0 Linton 26 Clinton 24 Danville 13 Clinton 13 Brazil 7 Clinton 26 Coaches: Jock Blose Chester Sonders Williom Johnson Managers: Ronald Schmidt Glen Bridgewoters Ronnie Bruce Page 22 Compliments of: ROSENBLATT'S, WESTERN INDIANA'S GREATEST STORE fyoothall Sc uad TOP ROW: SECOND ROW: THIRD ROW: FRONT ROW: Dick Simpson, Ed Lowry, Kenny Maurice, John Reynolds, Jon Croddle, Philip Buress, Nick Karanovich, Carol Holtom, Barney Revesz, Duke Baxendale, Billy Gibbon, Bob Simpson, Glen Bridgewaters Mr. Johnson, Wayne Huxford, Dick Bennett, Jack Rivero, Don Corgnino, Rudy Theisz, Patsy Inman, Gerry Dick, Dick Schelsky, Don Kuykendall, Monte Janik, Jack Lombert, Ersel Burgess, Dick Flynn, Carl Whitworth, Ronald Schmidt Bill Jones, Jerry Hunt, Don Martin, Ray Bennett, Vernon Kispert, Larry Taylor, Jerry Murray, Melvin Kerner, John Pesavento, Fred Trevarthan, Dick Gutish, Bill Bollock, Bob Waugh, Don Farrington, Ronnie Bruce Mr Sanders, Jack Fenoglio, Stan Ferrare, Wally Smith, John Goldner, Richord Haltom, Ron Natalie, Ron Krasek, Fred Botes, Chuck Schelsky, Gene Dick, Jim O'Brien, Jerry Stateler, Don Cvengroi, Jocl Lucas, Mr. Blose Compliments of: HOUSTON INSURANCE AGENCY HERSHEY, FLORIST Page 23 f . «I I STAN FERRARE Fullback GENE DICK Right Halfback FRED BATES Center X DON CVENGROS Left Tackle JACK LAMBERT Right Tackle JOHN GOLDNER Right Guard WALLY SMITH Quarterback CHUCK SCHELSKY Left Halfback Page 24 Compliments of: HUNTINGTON LABORATORIES, INC. Coach Bob Burton has every reason to be proud of his squad for this brilliant improvement after a slow start. The team really placed Clinton on the map as they were one of the only two teams from Indiana to beat Gerstmeyer of Terre Haute. At the time, Tech was rid- ing a 22 game winning streak and were rated as the number one team in Indiana. Seniors George Domeika and Chuck Schelsky will be sadly missed: George in his excellent shooting and rebound work and Chuck for his sparkling attitude and defensive play. The hard-fought game was highlighted by accurate passing, fast-running, and quick thinking. At half time the Homecoming queen, Ann Gerrish, and her court made up of Joyce Goldner, Loretta Graham, Linda Lark, and Nancy Carty, were introduced to the crowd. They rode in state to the Clinton side of the field where Captain Jim O'Brien crowned the queen with a garland of flowers. Following the game was the annual Homecoming dance held in the school gym. The dance floor was decorated in the school colors of Clinton and Danville. Some of the highlights of the dance were the crowning of Mr. Touchdown, the roll-call of the classes, the Grand March, and many novelty dances. Page 32 Compliments of: HARRIS FOOD STORE jjusuM-Setuxvi R uue In previous years the Juniors and Seniors of C H S. have had their class plays separately, one each semester. This year it was decided that the plays should be dropped. In their place a school play and a musical revue were given. Jinx Night, as the revue was called, was given in minstrel fashion on Friday, November 13th Erse I Burgess took charge of the program as Mr Interlocutor, and assisting him as End-men were Dick Flynn, John Goldner, Ron Mott, and Chuck Schelsky. The revue was under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Grider. The Students participating in the individual acts were: Marguerite Pesavento Charlotte Finch Donna Ruatto Ruth Davidson Joyce Goldner Anne Burrall Loretta Graham Joan McCarter Wayne Karanovich Erlette Tuenge Marsha Merrill Gail Shew John McCollom Fred Bates Patricia Mankins Carl Rinehart Jonme Cottrell Dick Kelley Bill Gumn George Mattsey Jim O'Brien Chuck Russell Don Craft Margaret Krasek Compliments of: HUNTINGTON LABORATORIES, INC. Page 33 Miss Wilma Blann Director p£A Ua For many years the choir has tried to raise enough money to buy robes for the entire group. This year to further the fund the choir under the direction of Miss Wilma Blann presented an operetta Wild Rose. The story concerns switching the babies of a gypsy and a socialite (who are good friends), and the complications which arise. C. H. S. congratu- lates the choir on a success at a first attempt. Page 34 Servant and Gypsy Choruses Compliments of: TAYLOR'S RADIO SHOP CLINTON'S OLDEST AND LARGEST BOTTLED GAS DEALER' School Play This year C. H. S. added a new form of three-act play to its repertoire . . . the arena-style play. Ladies of the Jury , a witty comedy, directed by Mrs. Nancy Grider, was the target of our efforts. The story of this play has to do with the trial of Yvette Gordon who is accused of murdering her husband The first act contains the court-room questioning while the last two acts reveal the con- trast and disagreements of a motley jury. Mrs. Crane! She's unconscious! Courtroom Cost The Jury Page 35 Compliments of: SAWYER'S FLOWERS (RAY AVE, PROPRIETOR) STAATS' AUTO SUPPLIES P vo h, 1953 The climax of the 1953 school year for the Junior class was the presentation of the annual Junior-Senior Prom. The theme for last year's prom was A Night in Heaven. Guests entered this fantasy through a gate of golden pillars. On their tables they found small angels with glittering wings and haloes. Swinging gently from the center of the lowered blue ceiling was a mirror-covered ball which constantly reflected small colored squares of light. The dancers were separated from the onlookers by a broken wall of pastel crepe paper. Music was furnished by Charlie Bey and his band. The high-point of the evening was, of course, the presentation of the King and Queen and their court. The throne was set against a fluffy cloud sprinkled with stars. King Johnny Lawson and Queen Rosella Smith, followed by their court, Deronda Pickard, Hila Newsome, Joan Tasso, and Clara Ondo, headed the Grand March. The prom ended with the traditional I'll See You In My Dreams. Muriel can be the maid. And, since Nola has admitted having one young daughter, Lexie must put on short skirts and become a child of nine! With Bill coming, and Arden, a flirtatious neighbor, leading him to believe Lexie is going out with another man, the situation be- comes impossible Their troubles all work out happily in the end, but the scrapes and scrabbles in- volved made this play one of the best.
