THE INNER WILLY Senior Class Play Willoughby Adams has long been under the influence of his three maiden aunts. He’s dutifully practiced piano, swallowed gallons of cod liver oil, eaten turnips, which he loathes, and listened to his aunt’s argu- ments over whether he should become a lawyer, musician, or architect (he wants to be a geologist). Now, with the protagonist, Inner Willy, to help, he spurns these impositions and even asserts himself to notice girls for the first time. Then the predicaments really begin--gleefully man- euvered by Inner Willy. He asks attractive Carol to the school dance, and is mauled by Carol’s “steady”, Stanley Clark, for so doing. Two more dance partners materialize--Marybell Turner (his aunt’s choice) who doesn’t have the mumps after all and can go, and Trudy, who assumes he will escort her. Not until Willoughby satisfactorily disposes of the girl complications and makes an issue of a career choice, does the pest, Inner Willy, vanish behind the sofa, leaving a suit of underwear behind on the floor.
