not decervrng thrs rs Jane Clark She tells us that aft r she departed from New York where she had been emplor ed at the Prchard Iludnut Salon Drck offered her '1 positron here rn Hollvwood 'rs head make up artrst for Flopo Frlms She rs also planning to attend the reunion but now we must not detain her further for she has a few more ac resse to mal e up for the scene So we hasten to reJorn Drck who has been grvrng a few hrnts as to how the stage could be improved While wartrng for hrs drrectrons to be carrred out over all the noise and hub bub we hefrr a frmrlrar xorce shouting Move the amber light farther rrght Get those whrte lrgnts away from the center of the stage Hurry up' We glance rn the drrectron of the vorce and see Lors Hermerdrnger who sees us at almost the same rnstant and rushes toward us nearly trrpprng over a lrght cord rn her haste She expresses her surf-rrse at seerng us by the classrc phrase Gee' Hr pals She tells us that she has been planning to come to the reunion by trarn Also she tells us that she has been forced to grve up her hobby of roller skatrnfr Now our attentron rs focused on another member of the stage crew By her emaculate dress and sparkling smrle we recognize her as Sylwra Happel She rs nova dorng work which had rnter ested her greatly through out hrfrh school that of rnterror decorating After havrng been employed by some of the biggest decorating frrm rn New York and Chicago she decrded to turn her abrlrty to decorating movie sets She communicated wrth Drck whrle vacatronrng rn Sun Valley and he vsrred her rmmedrfrtely to come to Hollywood where he would grve her a Job as head set director Her frrst Job rs decorating the sets for hrs fortlrcomrng production Lrfe and Death of Krlrov She rs happy rn this work and comrng East with Drck s group which rs coming by trarn Suddenly our conversation rs interrupted Dy a drstrnctr e looking per ent Scout for Flopo Frlms and rn smaller prrnt When bigger flops are made well make em We now recognize her as Barbara Harris 'rnd with her rs Barbara Moats who rs here rn Hollywood to appear rn a movre rn which she wrll be the featured pranrst Barbara M tells us she just ar rrved from New York where she has Just completed a four weeks engage ment at Carnegie Hall She rs bubbling over with enthusiasm about work rng at Flopo Frlms which rs the biggest movre producing company rn the business and where so many of her old friends are now employed Both Barbaras tell us that they are coming to the reunron on the reserx ed Pull man so we return to Dick who rs ready to rush to hrs offrce to hear the latest Hollywood gossip rn which he says we will be very rnterested Back again rn hrs offrce he switches on the radro and we hear the commercral Just ending Now through the radro comes the vorce of a famous column rst Yes You ve guessed rt' Jrmmy Hrndes We hear h1m say Good evening folks This rs Jrm fWhen theres any dope around dont be alarmed rts only mel Hrndes reporting all the latest Hollywood news vrews and anything else available Another interruption This time another of our old friends John Way now Doctor John Way He rs yell rng at the top of hrs lungs Wheres the body? Wheres the nurse? Our next flight IS a long one to the Grand Canyon in Arlzona We land there and rent a car to take us to the heart of the Canyon where we find Royal Odell busily plowlng lt He 1S also golng to nlght school studying how to raise crops on th1s wonderful land He says it is very strenuous and ted1ous work but he IS planning to give it up for awhlle and come to Clinton for the reunion if we w1ll g1Ve him a ride on the way back We bid him falewell promising to return 1n two days JV e leave the Grand Canvon and soon we are in Las Vegas Nevada wheie Geraldlne Anglemyre IS now head of a large laboratory At th1s laboratory she IS doing lmportant research on the productlon of Atom1c powered ca1s and a1rplanes When we arrive at the laboratory Geraldine IS 1n the middle of an lmportant experlment so we busy ourselves lookmg at the various chemicals and test tubes As soon as she f1n1shes the ex periment she shows us to her p11V3tQ office where we chat for a few minutes about her work But as we must always hurry off we inquire about the reunion and she says she IS coming We rush to the airport and leave 1mmed1ately for Hollywood We land ir some very thlck fog to find Jlmmy Kershner work1ng as a mechanic at the airport We are Just beginnmg to get used to seeing through this fog wh1le talk1ng to Jim about coming back to Cl1nton for the reun1on He agreed to fly back with us when we leave 1n two days Now we begin wondering where we can f1nd a radar un1t to direct us through the fog when we see Bob Gaecke who IS working on a llghtlng project for the alrport Th1s project will a1d flyers to land qu1cker and safer on such days as this Bob has introduced to the sc1ent1f1c work a new type of l1ght which can be seen for a great distance through fog slut snow or ra1n and wh1ch has been called by some sclentists the greatest 1m piovement in flying 1n our tlmes Bob tells us the simplest way to get where we are go1ng IS to h1re a helicopter He also tells us that the best Bob leaves me to discuss the reunion with Bob while he goes to phone lxen and ask hlm to drop down to tl airport and g1V9 us a l1fe to Flopo Films where D1ck Stem IS now a famous producer Ken arr1ves in record b1eak mg t1me fflV8 minutes and thlrty one secondsl and we TISS into the a1r and 1n less than no time we are over the Flopo Films Airport We land and as we have previously telegraphed D1ck that we would arr1ve somet1me 1n the afternoon he IS expecting us and has lnformed the pollceman at the gates to be on the lookout for two average lookxng people wearing pla1n ordmary everyday clothes We walk through the studio gates and stare in amazement as we see on one set a whlrling snow storm wh1le Just a few feet away a scene from the sunny troplcs IS belng shot We reach D1ck s office and who should greet us but Donna Jean Scrlver and Margaret Wo3tow1cz who rise from two identical desks dressed 1n 1dent1cal clothes and step in front of D1ck s door to croon Open the Door R1chard ll which was a popular d1tty 1n our hlgh school days At once the door 1S opened by a man 1n a loud green and blue pm stripe su1t wearlng a brlght red sh1rt w1th p1nk elephants and at his throat a yellow and o1ange polka dot bow t1e Surely th1S monstroslty cannot be our old cronie D1ck Stein' But yes in ten years a face like his could not change and we reallze that behind the dark rimmed glasses and big black c1gar IS D1ck Stein Hollywood has really gone to his head He paused from his d1ctat1on to remove the black c1gar and greet us As soon as he f1n1shed his d1ctat1on he takes us out to the set where a scene from h1s new mov1e Drawback of 1957 IS be1ng filmed From one of the dressing rooms emerges the beautiful star Tana Lurner but behind her we notice her blond make up art1st who IS wea1in0' a blue smock and to us she looks l1ke Jane Clark We approach her and dlscover that looks are Page Twenty th GC I . . , . . . . Very shortly Dick returns realizing he has been the obiect of one of John s practical Jokes and unknown to John silently steps up behind him and pl xces a small brown rubber mouse on top of his nead which falls oft in his lip as soon as his head moves qeemg the rubber mouse which looks xery eal John grabs the oooi knob and is gone in a flash which sends Dick into hvsteria healizing we h we missed Jim Hindes report we ask Dick the dlrec tion to the broadcast building Again we are off to sec new sights We take a taxi and arrive at the broadcast building just as Jim is leaving on his feet He says we can drop him at his hotel where we decide to spend the night The next morning we read in the headlines of the newspaper that another of our cl xssmfites has become famous At last he has done it He has landed directly behind the eight ball VN ho? Our national bowling champion Jimmy Caiistianosl He has achieved his ambition to bowl a perfect game and has become national bowling champion at the same time We pass the morning seeing the sights and at noon we return to the hotel to find a telegram from the champ himself saying he is coming to the reunion and will be much obliged if we would stay in Holly wood another day so he can go back with us We have a few more days befoie June twentieth so we decide to Stax in Holly wood for awhile and perhaps see some more movie stars before leturning to Clinton with our passengers and to attend to last minute details for the reunion Page Twenty five , . . . . . , .
