cfddj p'ZOFA2Cy It rs now 1957 and we the class of 47 are plannrng a reunron after a ten year separatron After sendrng rnvrtatrons we recerved replres that some of the members would be unable, to attend So usrnfr our rngenurtv Bob and I decrded to charter a large passenger plane from Clrnton to Calrfornra and back It rs now the tenth of June frnd the reunron rs to be held on the twentreth so we hare ten days to make our Journey Clrnton rs now a thrrvrnff metropolrs wrth two arrports one of whrch belongs to our mechanrcallv rnclrnecl classmate Iranklrn Beerbower who has offered hrs serxrces to fly Floatrn Free one of the many planes whrch he owns After recervrng a report from our roamrng cover boy hobert George concernrng weather condrtrons rn Calrfornra and frndrng them favorable we decrde to leave rmmedrately On board the plane we are greatly surprrsed to frnd our two charmrng hostesses to be none other th rn Marre F1 olrch and Mrldred Garrrson whom we had not seen srnce the fateful day of June 5 1947 Thev seat us com fortably and we chat about old trmes untrl we reach Chrcago As we near Chrcago Bob develops a toothache whrch becomes rncreas rngly worse and when we land at the arrport we go to the Informatron Desk where we drscover our frrend Audrey Hause rs employed Upon learnrng Bobs plrght she rnforms us that Palmer Kroh a professronal Jerk tdentrst that rsh has hrs offrce rn the downtown area Audrey calls us a taxr and much to our utter amazement we frnd rn answer to the sum mons a red yellow and blue hack drrven by Davrd Gould We step rnto harr rarsrng days when Davrd was allowed to drrve Audrey brds us fare well remrndrng us to stop on our return trrp and grve her a lrft back to Clrnton Unknown to us we reach our destrnatron and when Davrd comes around to the door he frnds us on our knees wrth our hands clasped under chrns We depart from the cab vowrng never agarn to rrsk our lrves rrd rng wrth Davrd and proceed to enter the burldrng where Palmer s offrce rs located Vkhrle rrdrng up rn the elevator Bob partrftllv recox ers from hrs scare and wonders why we are gorng to see a dentrst Then he remembers that he has a toothache whrch he had forgotten nroment urly whrle rrdrng rn Davrd s taxr He also drscovers that hrs tooth does not ache but we decrde to pay a socral call on Palmer anyway to frnd out whether or not he wrll attend the reunron as we had had no reply from hrm We enter the offrce to frnd Louretta Mrddlebrook srttrng behrnd a desk lookrng very drgnrfred and at once she begrns grvrng us the thrrd degree Name? Ad dress? Phone Number? Occupatron'7 Do you have rn apporntment wrth the Doctor? Quddenly she stops and stares at us slowly becomrng aware of who we are She gets up from behrnd her desk and comes to grve us a frrendly smrle and hand slrfrl e then asks what we are dorng rn Chrcago We tell her of our mrssron and she tells us that she has been lookrng for ward to rt and nothrnfr less than an earthquake wrll prevent her from attendrng At thrs moment Palmer emerges from hrs offrce and we notrce a be draggled lookrnvf rnfrn lrmp p rrnfully from behrnd hrm and out the door Bob and Palmer begrn at once to recall therr hrvh school athletrc days and much as I hate to I realme that Bob and I must be on our way so I rnterrupt to Page Twenty one ' y . . . 1 I ' W o . v ' 1 if . ask Palmer lf he knows of any of our other fr1ends l1v1ng 1n Ch1cago He lnforms us that Marllyn Pentelow now Mrs Percy Rassputtmback IS l1v mg not far from hls Off1C9 so we fro down on the elevator and out lHt0 the street hopmg NOT to see Dav1d s red yellow and blue cab hurtlmg down at us from around the corner It bemg a very n1ce day we declde to walk to Marxlyn s home accord 1ng to Palmer s d1rect1ons After gomg around the same block twxce and always arr1v1ng 1n front of Palmers off1ce bu1ld1ng we start out on our own course to fxnd Ye Old Alley Street where Palmer told us Marllyn re s1des After f1fteen m1nutes of followlng our noses we arr1ve and are greeted by loud shouts of three youngsters Seelng we are nearly swamp ed by these l1vely shall we say darlmgs Marxlyn comes to our rescue She mtroduces the chlldren as Percy Jr age 8 Sldney age 6 and Matllda age 4 Mar1lyn tells us she had not heard about the reun1on and we had been unable to locate her through any of our frlends But she says she can arrange to leave her chlldren w1th her mother IH law 1f we w1ll stop on our way back We agree and say good bye for a wh1le We hall another red yellow and blue cab whxch IS NOT Davld s and return to the a1rport to f1nd Bob Patterson helpmg to refuel our plane We greet 11m w1th a cheery hello and ask how long he has been workmg at the a1rport He tells us he has been there for f1ve years and that he owns hxs own plane whlch he w1ll fly to the reun1on Now that the refuel1ng IS f1n1shed we board the plane for St LOUIS MISSOUFI where that famous flrst baseman Norman Randall IS playmg w1th the Brownles We go d1rectly to the ball park where a game IS al ready ln progress As I squmt through a knot hole ln the fence I see Nor man at f1rst base We also hear many shouts of K1ll the umplrel lS fam1l1ar and upon closer observatlon I recognlze h1m as M1lton Sackett It 1S the last hah of the nmth 1nn1ng and the Brownles are two polnts ahead of the1r opponents the Rlver Rats from MISSISSIDDI who are now up at bat I'he Rats have two men out and three men on base and another of our classmates Edd1e Roblson IS at bat The umplre has called two strlkes and three balls on Eddle and th1s IS the dec1d1ng pltch The wlnd up the pltch and Eddxe swmgs and mlsses The game lS over w1th the BFOWDISS wmnmg 6 to 4 We go to the dressmg rooms to meet Norman who IS just commg out w1th M1lton who IS bemg comphmented by the play ers for h1s fme Job of ump1r1ng We ask Norman and M1lton 1f they are plannmg to attend the reun1on They say they are but due to a heavy playmg schedule It IS necessary that they return to St Louls ln two days so we say we w1ll stop on the way back and g1ve them a llft So we re turn to the a1rport and proceed on our Journey Our next stop IS Tulsa Oklahoma where we w1ll spend the nlght at the Grande Hotel We are both very t1red and have a busy day commg We awaken early the next mornlng eat breakfast and hlre two horses to rxde out to the Sky Hy Ranch owned by another frlend of ours Ken neth Escott We arrlve at the ranch and commg from the dlrectlon of the orral we hear a cowboy smgmg As we approach the corral we see the cowboy IS Kenneth Woodward known on the ranch as Krooner Ken He waves to us and hlS boss Ken Escott comes toward us from the ranch house They tell us they are almost ready to go to the feed m1ll at Tulsa to get some cattle feed So we p1le IH the truck w1th them and we re off to the b1g clty We are greatly surpr1sed to fmd that they purchase the1r feed from Fxlber s Feed Factory owned and operated by Fred Fllber Fred comes out to meet us and we talk for a few mmutes Then Bob says we must leave for the a1rport so we say AdlOS and they assure us that they wlll be at the reun1on Page Twenty two .
