THE STARTING LINE | ' |l| HI nil We entered our Freshman year filled with excitement, and a little fear. We did not know what to expect in high school. The first few months proved to he a learning and growing experience that would last the next four years. We were appointed Mrs. Trapp and Mr. Gorrell as our class advisors. We elected as our class officers David DiMeco as President, Kim Grady as Vice-President, Beth Frost as Treasurer and Leslie Despotopulos as Secretary. Our class organized a raffle and various fundraisers which proved to be successful. As Freshman we learned the ways of the school, responsibility and how to function as a class. We built the foundation for our next three years at Clinton High School. 4 AROUND THE TURN As Sophomore year came around our class felt more comfortable and secure in the high school. Our first order of business was to elect class officers. Amy Christie was elected as president. Robert Mitchell Vice-President, Leslie Despotopulos Secretary, and Beth Frost Treasurer. Mrs. Boroweic was appointed our new class advisor to take the place of Mrs. Trapp. We were familiar with the Spirit Week activity and this year we were exposed to Interclass Dramatics for the first time. Our play was “It’s Cold In Them Thar Hills’ . Beth Frost won an award for Best Supporting Actress. Our class activities included raffles and bake sales. With the help of local merchants, we held a fashion show at the Clinton Middle School which was a success. All these activities had brought our class closer together over the last year. We looked forward to the next two years with excitement. WE’VE GOT TONIGHT The highlight of the Fall of our Junior year was our Homecoming Dance, which took place on October 30, 1982. It came at the conlusion of a very hectic and enthusiastic Spirit Week. We danced all night to the music of Crossing. Through the efforts of the decorating committee the cafeteria was magically transformed. Before we knew it the night was quickly ending, the time came to choose tne Queen and her court. Angela Clougherty was selected Queen. The members of her court included Maria Cardillo, Carol Regonini, Betty-Jo Parker, Lisa Carassai, Heather Timledge and Patty Murphy. J We entered our Junior year filled with excitement. The first thing on the agenda was to elect class officers, Amy Christie was elected President, Kim Grady as Vice-President, Leslie Despotopulos as Secretary, and Beth Frost as Treasurer. The weeks passed and it was time for us to sponsor Spirit Week. It was a very busy week and at the conclusion was our long awaited Homecoming Dance. We participated in Interclass Dramatics for the second time. Our play was “Terror Stalks The Night” in which Mary Jane Pizza won an award for Best Supporting Actress. The months went by quickly, April soon arrived, and our first formal dance was upon us. The Junior Prom was held on April 29, 1983. After that the last months of our Junior year flew by. As the year came to an end, we realized that we would no longer be underclassmen. Our time had finally come! HOME STRETCH FINISH LINE It’s finally here, our Senior year. We looked forward to this year when we were Freshman, but as time passed and we found ourselves as the leaders of the school, there were many mixed emotions. The anticipation of going to college or work inspired in us a sense of determination to reach out and achieve our goals. Our class pulled together to make a good showing in Spirit Week, and our two new advisors, Mrs. Galeski and Mr. Balvin helped us plan many successful events and fund-raisers. Our Hop, Banquet, and Class Trip brought many laughs, but the realization that we were leaving brought many tears, and our Baccalaurate and Graduation finally made us realize the beginning of our new lives. As the year drew to a close we accepted our diplomas with new hope for the future and many remembrances of our short high school career. We will cherish this year for many more as it held so very many special memories. THE WAY I FEEL TONIGHT On April 29, 1983 we held on first formal dance at Wachusett Country Club. This night we had looked forward to for so long was filled with magic for all who attended and was accented by music from Glass Leaf. The night turned into a very special memory as we selected Lisa Carassai as our Queen and Karen Ward, Gayle Musche, Marianne McNamara, Patty Murphy, Beth Frost and Denise Lovett as her court. u 1 1 S’ §■ r I: r A • T i r • M t . 1 fi Spanish Club ' . DEDICATION As our high school days have come to a close, we would like to thank two people who have contributed much of their time and guidance to the class of ’84. We would like to show our appreciation to Mrs. Anne Galeski and Mr. Joseph Balvin. They stepped-in and offered their assistance, support, and understanding when we were in greatest need, and made our Senior year the success that it was. We would also like to thank Mrs. Sandra Boroweic, Mrs. Dorothy Trapp, and Mr. Michael Gorrell for their time and effort during our first three years. The Gaels were led by 17 seniors, including captains Rick Edwards and Tim Grady. Although the Gaels had a disappointing season, they went into every event with a positive attitude, showed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and they always carried with them a sense of school pride. We would also like to wish the upcoming football team a successful season. First Row: Jim Morrison, Gary Botko, Rick Edwards, Tim Grady, Mike Cravedi. Kevin Burgwinkle Second Row: Robert Mitchell. Beth Frost Captain Leslie Despotopolus Captain As we approached our Senior year, the Clinton Field Hockey team had not experienced the most favorable seasons. Under the guidance of Coach Pamela Reni, we were well prepared for our opponents, but were unable to conclude our season on a winning note. Even the desire of Captains Mary Pat McQuoid, Beth Frost and Leslie Despotopolus, backed by Seniors Kim Grady, Ann Prendergast and Angela Clougherty was not enough. Though our effort through the past four years has not been enough to win, we learned that winning isn’t everything, but the friendships that we made will last a lifetime. First row: Lisa Grant, Darlene Foster, Pam Parent, Laura Cummings, Patty Gorham, Tracey Cassavechia Second row: Bernadette Kara, Patty Weego, Jodi Loverro, Dianne Duchnowski, Michael Hopkins, Angela Forgione, Tracey Cassanto, Diane Letourneau Third row: Tracey Connelly, Cincry Tambolleo, Mary Jane Pizza, Eileen Kilcoyne, Paula Bendel, Pam Konan, Holly Taylor, Tracey Trongone, Sue Schlerb, Coach. Cindy Tambolleo Eileen Kilcoyne 66 As Freshmen and Sophomores we were being prepared for Varsity under the direction of Ms. Beaulieu. As Juniors we entered the tough competition of being on Varsity under the direction of Mrs. Boroweic. As Seniors we pulled out an 8-6 record, regardless of the two-week late start with our new coach Sue Schlerb. Through this time we realized how important sports are to gain new confidences and friends. Seniors included Tracey Connelly, Eileen Kilcoyne, Mary Jane Pizza, Cindy Tambolleo, and Holly Taylor. Together we strived to do the best we could while all along we gained memories which would last forever. Even as the season came to an end and became a part of our past, we knew that when we went out into the world we would always remember it fondly. Holly Taylor Tracey Connelly 67 r One On One The Clinton High Basketball Team finished the season with a 7-10 record. Their record doesn ' t show the hard work and determination contributed by all the team members. All of the games were close and under the guidance of Coach Gerry Foley the Gaels finished with a respectable record. The team was led by Captain Brian Pallotta, backed by Seniors Kevin Burgwinkle, Mike Clisham, Pete Gaughan, and Chris Quinn. The final outting of the season against Shrewsbury will always be remembered for the great pass from Chris Quinn to rim Coyne for the game-winning basket at the buzzer! Practice Makes . . . This year’s girls basketball team under the guidance of first year coach, Bev Menegus, was lecl by Seniors Patty McGeehan, Cheryl Draleau, and Shirley Weaver. The girls deserve much credit for maintaining a great attitude throughout the year. They entered each game with high hopes of victory and endea the season still thinking optimistically. The graduating members wish next year’s team the best of luck. 71 Name That Tune Under the guidance of Mr. David Baer, the 1983-84 Clinton High School Band participated in many musical events. Among these were football games, the graduation ceremonies, the St. Patrick ' s Day Parade in Worcester, the annual Christmas and Spring concerts, as well as an Exchange concert in Westport. Seniors elected to the offices of President and Secretary were Maria Orengo and Judy Correa. Along with Senior Chris Adshade and Holly Taylor, the entire band enjoyed this year. Chris Adshade Holly Taylor Lisa Carassai Taking The Field Under the direction of Coach Caesar DiTullio the gaels softball team had a com- mendable year. We now say good-bye to three seniors, Lisa Carassai, Cheryl Draleau, and Mary Jane Pizza. Although they had more losses than wins it was the enjoyment that kept their spirits high and we’d like to congratulate them on their dedication and effort. 74 Mary Jane Pizza 75 Triple Threat The CHS baseball team led by Tim Grady, Brian Pallotta, and Chris Quinn had a fine season this year. Each of the players showed their confidence and Gael spirit to give it their all as they played each game. We stand behind them for exerting their efforts throughout the season. Chris Quinn Brian Pallotta Tim Grady 77 ■ Par Breakers Winning the Midland League Title last year was surprising to the Clinton High School Golf Team, but winning the Title for a second consecutive season came as no surprise. The efforts of Seniors Jim Souza, Kevin Burgwinkle, and Anthony Pasquale proved to be assets. The team had an undefeated season under the guidance of their coach, Mr. Donald Burgwinkle, and performed to the utmost of their abilities. The team also went on to win the Midland League Team Medal Golf Championship at the International Golf Club in Bolton. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our superb golf team and to wish the best of luck to Jim, Kevin, and Anthony. Jim Souza Donald Burgwinkle, Coach Kevin Burgwinkle On the Right Track This year’s track team led by six seniors, Robert Mitchell, Jim Weeks, Attila Kara, Carl Duhamel, Anthony Harmon, and Peter Moran, did well individually, but it was not enough to carry the team to a successful season. We also would like to thank Coach Cataldi for his time, effort, and support throughout the season. We assembled in the Mitchell Memorial Auditorium for the annual Baccalaureate Sunday. Father Jurgelonis of Saint John ' s Parish gave the invocation, address and benediction. This ended th e first event of senior week. 86 87 Fun in the Sun On Tuesday morning, June 5, the class of 1984 headed for the Frank Davis Resort in Moodus, Conn. The temperature was in the high 90’s and there wasn ' t a cloud in sight. Many recreational activities were planned to keep us busy throughout the entire day. Competitions such as swimming, relays, softball, basketball, canoe war fights, and sack and wheel barrel races showed to everyone our true Gael Spirit as we competed against other schools. To top off the day, both our boys and our girls came out as champions of the tug-of-war competitions. This really proved that Clinton High’s famous “Green Machine can come through. After a delicious dinner, we boarded the buses and headed back to Clinton . . . another enjoyable and memorable day of our high school years had come to a close! 88 89 Class Banquet On Thursday June 7 at 3:45, we boarded the buses for the last time and headed for the White Cliffs in Northboro. We had a super meal and danced to the music of Glass Leaf. We presented gifts to our Class Advisors, Mr. Balvin and Mrs. Galeski showing our appreciation and gratitude over our years. Also flowers were presented to Mrs. Boroweic and Mrs. Trapp, our previous Class Advisors. As the night came to a close we all realized that this was our last social event together as a whole class. The night ended with all of us hand in hand in a circle, singing our class so ng “The Best Is Yet To Come”. This was the perfect way to end our Senior activities. 91 Amy Christie Patricia Clisham Graduation Our careers as Clinton High School students came to a formal close on June 9, 1984. We were all filled with mixed emotions as we assembled for the last time as a class. The class of 1984 was the first class in the history of C.H.S. to hold the traditional graduation execises in the Central Park which proved to be a beautiful setting for such a memorable occasion. How were we to know who will be the lucky ones Ain’t it funny how time flies when the best is yet to come. We’ll cry ourselves to sleep tonight, can’t change the day that’s done. We have it here it’s slipping away, why did it have to come. Even through the years you never let us come undone. What’s so good about goodbye when the best is yet to come. We find ourselves thinking about yesterday When you were here living in our dream But the moment that we wake, we find we’ve made our first mistakes Like the time that’s gone, we know we must move on. Just small town kids who have it made, and so the story goes. Whe had it all, it’s slipping away, how were we to know. J V J ■ A CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 1984 FROM YOUR TEACHERS AND ADVISORS Clinton Teachers’ Association V 129 TOMORROW Sadness filled our souls as we walked down the dimly lit hallway. We were carefully planted on the balance of time. Years were gone from us, the years we thought could never end. It didn’t help us any by knowing we could never recapture the moments we all had lived, loved, and shared together. Years ago we had begged time to speed up so we could move on. Time did as it was told. The years had slipped through our fingers like water. Once it was gone you couldn’t follow it down the drain. That’s the way it is with life. It silently sneaks by you, but when you discover this, it’s too late to do anything except mourn. But as they say, “It’s no use crying over spilt milk.” But who can help it? We would lose everything we had all those years, except the memories which could be kept in oneself for time eternal. We all would have more and more memories as we grow older. This I repeated as I continued walking. It would soon be over. But the pain would remain, the pain of growing up and moving on deeper and deeper into life only to have it taken violently away from you just when you are happy and in love with it. It’s my turn. This will be it. Oh God, I cant take it. I want to go back, please I can ' t go on. But I think of my friends and family watching me with smiles. I think of all the other kids who already had their turn and I think of all the kids who will have their turn long after mine is over. It ' s done, I did it. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I sit down. Everyone is smiling, I smile too. But I feel empty inside, so, so, empty. They play our graduation march. I want to cry because everything is lost to me. We leave to go our separate ways. Good-bye to the best years my life will ever have or know. But maybe out there, somewhere, I can find more memories to love the rest of my life. I can’t cry now because I have to go through a day of celebrating. I feel like dying, but I promise myself, I’ll live for tomorrow for the rest of my life. Mary Jane Pizza In the early morning darkness of September I. a Kore- an Air Lines 747 was hit by a Soviet air-to-air missile. Twelve minutes later the big jet plunged into the Sea or Japan, killing all 269 passengers and crew (78 are pictured on these pages). Six days after the crash. 100.000 people assembled to moum in a Seoul stadium. including the woman above. U.S Japanese and Rus- sian navies searched nine weeks for the flight record- er that might have explained why the plane strayed into Soviet airspace: the sea yielded only shoes, cloth- ing. toys and other personal evidence of the tragedy. The stark gallery of some of these artifacts on the fol- lowing pages is presented to help convey the horror of this act or violence against helpless people.
