The class of 1980 humbly dedicates this edi- tion of Memorabilia to our distinguished ad- visors, Mr. David Kilbourn and Mr. David Menard. Through their demonstration of un- derstanding, patience and leadership, we have come to realize that our class has been fortunate indeed to have been guided by such outstand- ing individuals. We would also like to express our sincere grat- itude to Mr. Joseph Balvin for the time and ef- fort he devoted to making our yearbook a suc- cess. Along the way, we would not only learn to grow as individuals, but together as well. As a class we experienced the pride of accomplishment, a sense of belonging, and increasing confidence; but most of all we knew that we would cherish forever the many friendships we would make during our four years at Clinton High School. To help us along our way we chose Mrs. Jane Arsenault, Mr. David Menard and Mr. Donald Jarvi as our Class Advi- sors. Together with our Class Officers: President; Joanne Quinn, Vice President; Patrick Ball, secretary; Joanne De- spotopulos and Treasurer; Thomas Hazel and our Student Council Representatives: Mary Jo Garofoli, Loretta O ' Toole, and Carolyn Pasquale, we organized a bake sale and a car wash which proved to be very successful. The most memorable event of the year, however, was the arrival of President Jimmy Carter on March 16th and 17th. After presiding over a mock town meeting, the President spent the night at the home of classmate Jane Thompson. By choosing Clinton as his first stop in his meet the people campaign, the President put Clinton on the map. VVe would have many more memories which would be trea- sured from this year. Our imprint was made but not yet com- pleted. As the year came to a close, we looked to our future for the fullfillment of our promises, dreams, and expectations. SOPHOMORE YEAR We returned in September with a new outlook, knowing that our Sophomore Year would be a trying time for us, but with a little more experience on our side, we would make it. We started right in by electing Patrick Ball for our President: James Valley, Vice-President; Joanne Despotopulos, Secretary; and Thomas Hazel, as Treasurer. Our Student Council consisted of Mary Jo Garofoli, Brian Gavin, and Pamela Queeney. With their combined efforts, we were able to organize a Shopping Spree at the Victory Market proving that we could work together as a class. In December of our Sophomore Year, we entered Inter-Class Dramatics Competition for the first time. Although we didn ' t win any awards, our play, Bolts and Nuts , proved to everyone that our class was not only well organized but manifested an exceptional degree of spirit. On December 3, 1977, with an undefeated record, the Gaels Foot- ball Team traveled to Springfield, MA for the Central-Western Mas- sachusetts Super Bowl. Our team had the support of every football enthusiast in the town. It was a great thrill to go this far, but unfortu- nately, Minnechaug Regional beat the Gaels by a score of 41-27. Before leaving school for the summer vacation we received our class rings which would forever be a symbol of our ties to C.H.S. We were now at the mid-point of our high school days. If the next two years held as much fun and excitement as the previous ones, we knew that we would have much to look forward to. (9, (PZ9 ■ ’ ( u m On May 18, 1979, we found ourselves amidst the festivities at the Bull Run. The advent of our Junior Prom approached quickly. For the girls, as well as their escorts, it was their long awaited dream come true, a fairy tale we ' ve once read, and surely an occassion we will always remember. As the clock struck twelve, the night slowly faded away to melancholy memories. The gala events continued the following day as we traveled to Hampton Beach. Though the weather was dismal it didn ' t put a damper on our dreams. The night will forever be remembered by our Queen and her court, which consisted of Marci Tor, Joanne Quinn, Mary Notaro, Corinne Gorman, (Queen), Kathleen Coyne, Carey O ' Donnell, and Karen Ryll. JUNIOR YEAR We knew that the time was passing quickly so we jumped right into our Junior Year landing on both feet. We re-elected the Class Officers from the previous year, but chose as our Student Council Representatives; Mary Jo Garofoli, George Hutchinson and Stephen Lipka. With their help, we organized our first Formal Homecoming Dance on October 28, 1978; and this was made extra special due to our victory over Milford. Moving along the Junior road we came upon our second try at Inter-Class Dramatics. Our persistence payed off in our super per- formance of “Run, Robber, Run in which Hope Lucci and Joseph Welch received awards for best supporting actress and actor. The highlight of the year, however, would have to be the arrival of our long awaited Junior Prom on May 18, 1979. The Bull Run in Shirley served as host for this, the most memorable night of our high school year. Before we knew it, we once again found ourselves at the close of another year. We had three good years to look back upon but most importantly we knew the best was yet to come! Senior Interclass Dramatics — A VICTORY! After three years of competing in Inter- class Dramatics, we picked up many skills, and perfected our acting abilities which re- sulted in a victory for our senior year. Many hours were spent rehearsing and having fun together, and if we had a chance to do it all again — we would! For our performance of Hello, I ' m From Another Planet , Joseph Welch was awarded Best-Supporting Actor for his por- trayal of Carson Zoobacker and Patrick Ball was recognized as the Best Actor for his per- f ormance as Bo Carson. Other cast members in the winning play were; Peter Kovac as Samuel Flash Gordan, Patricia Lowe as Miss Carlisle, Hope Lucci as Laura Nelson, Maria Marioni as Luella Zoobacker, Melanie Parsons as Ronda Johnstone, and Carolyn Pasquale as Carmella Erchinger. K ' ' 1 ' H jfdjart ' A 6, “ (Riv tem x’r Jid ’’ J(90 I On the night of March 15, 1980, we found ourselves together as a class for one of the last times at Turner Hall for our Senior Hop. The theme, Will You Remember Me defined our last formal dance appropriately and left us pondering on all of the good times that we have been confronted with at Clinton High School, but we were also speculating about events still awaiting us. It made us believe that what was a dream yesterday is a memory today, that this was one of our final stepping stones before our departure from Clinton High School. The court consisted of Patricia Williamson, Nancy Kolifrath, Carey O ' Donnell, Mary Correa, (Queen), Adrienne Kara, Pamela Queeney, and Nancy Flannagan. 12 SENIOR YEAR As Seniors, we approached our last year at Clinton High School. Never would we forget the times we had in the last three years but we, as a whole, anticipated this year to be the best of all. We realized that this would be our last chance to fullfill our dreams and achieve our goals. We elected a new President, Howard Vosburg and a new advisor, Mr. D avid Kilboum to lead us on our last journey through Clinton High. March came upon us and it was time for our final formal . . . the Senior Hop. The memories of the night will always be trea- sured. Our Class Spirit was clearly revealed to all this year. We orga- nized activities in the Spirit Week competition and although we didn ' t exactly come out on top, we knew we were winners. It was also our last chance to prove ourselves in the Inter- Class Dramatics Competition, and prove ourselves we did. Not only was Patrick Ball awarded best actor and Joseph Welch best supporting actor but we topped it all off when our play Hello, I ' m From Another Planet , was chosen to be the best. We have completed our imprint at Clinton High School and we now look to the future where we will make our footsteps in the sands of time. m ■ 1 ' ll ,V Xv v,V,VA ' .V. ' «WM n 4 ♦ ‘ V ‘ ♦ V r-. I C a u S ) to er 2(9, 7(9 ' an thc y We anticipated that these four years would pass by quickly, so we commenced our journey fown the long and winding road on October 28, 1978 at Clinton High School for our Junior Homecoming. A full week of festivities culminated in a Gael victory over Milford, 26-21, which made the night more enjoy- able. The decorating committee out-did themselves in transform- ing the cafeteria into a beautiful autumn atmosphere. As the night progressed, the traditional Grand March was organized. After much anxiety, the cUmax of the evening was finally attained. Marci Tor was chosen Queen, accompanied by her court which consisted of Mary Notaro, Karen Murrman, Mary Jo Garofoli, Pamela Queeney, Karen Pallotta and Corinne Gorman. The evening gradually died out but the beauty and success of that night will linger in our memories Always and Forever. ( rUyne e eem and tm ie noi tin nmcA in fAti wo i ai a i eaA iend. ' FOOTBALL GAELS The Clinton High football Gaels, in the fall of ' 79, had proven themselves to be a premier team in the area. With the hard work and superb leadership of head coach Archie Cataldi and assistants Robert Cooney and Mark Keisling, the Gaels came up with yet another outstanding season in recent years. A prolific offense combined with a hard-hitting defense had won the Gaels much respect from many opponents of Central Mass. The aggressive play along with an abundance of CHS spirit from the student body had accumulated many Gael victories. The 8-1 record placed Clinton second in the Midland League. The team ' s successful year also revealed all-star honors for Tom McEvilly, Steve Ernst, and George Hutchinson. TWIRLERS Our four years at Clin- ton High have come to an end but we will never forget them. We de- veloped a special camaraderie with our fel- low twirlers and we shared many special moments. We will trea- sure forever fond memo- ries of twirling practices, half-time shows and competition. The senior twirlers, Sharon McNally, Annette Marhefka, and Nancy Kolifrath, would like to say a special thank-you to Mrs. Judith Innamorati. We deeply appreciate all the time and effort she put into working with us. HH Mrs, Judith Innamorati, Instructor Annette Marhefka Sharon McNally Head Majorette Nancy Kolifrath Christine Duggan BAND The Clinton High School 1979-80 edition of the Galloping Gaels Band dazzled the halftime audi- ences with its spectacular performances. However, our season did not end on Thanksgiving Day like most marching bands. For now we performed our annual Christmas and Spring Pops concerts and en- tered many competitions. The band elected its officers to lead them through the school year. They chose Christine Duggan as president, Hope Lucci as vice-president, Patricia Lowe as secretary-librarian, and Timothy Turnbull as equipment manager. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. David Baer for dedicating so much time and knowledge to aid our band toward another success- ful year. Laurie Lovett Patricia Lowe Mr. David Baer Instructor Hope Lucci A FLAG CORF FIELD HOCKEY The Clinton Field Hockey Team may not be remembered as a win- ning team, but a team for its hard-work, dedication, and vital- ity. As a young team they showed great effort and aggression on the field with spirit and enthusiasm. The team was led by the rough and tough Tri-Captains Susan Donohue, Joanne Despotopulos, and Annette Marhefka. Also con- tributing to the teams competitive drive were seniors Karen Ryll, Katherine Coughlin, Kathleen Garry, Lisa Praderio, Joan Bailey, and Gail Sibya. j 93 Susan Donohue Joanne Despotopulos Annette Marhefka Tri-Captain Tri-Captain Tri-Captain CROSS COUNTRY S tanding: John Mitchell, Tri-Captain, David Grant, William Alden, Tri-Captain, Jon Klink- hamer, Harvey Martin, Tri-Captain. Kneeling: Carolyn Pasquale, David Campbell The Cross Country team under the coaching of Jim Maattala upheld a 3-4 record despite its short season. Seniors John Mitchell, Bill Alden, Harvey Martin, Jon Klinkhamer, Carolyn Pasquale, Dave Campbell, and David Grant paced the Gael harriers. We wish all the runners good luck in the future and congratulate them for a fine season. 96 VOLLEYBALL Our 1979 Volleyball team had a fairly successful sea- son as three seniors, Michelle King, Marci Tor, and Pam Queeney ended their high school career. With the coaching of Madeleine Beaulieu, the team went very far during the season. The girls won 65% of their matches but because of an unfortunate incident, the team was unable to attend the districts. We hope these winning seasons will continue for as long as there will be a team. The girls work hard yet have fun at the same time. Let ' s hope we hear the words of the coach who ' s gonna win? and then in reply, WE ARE! Led by senior members, Francis Ward, capt., Edward Mitchell, George Hutchinson, Paul Conger, and Thomas O ' Toole, the team displayed an exemplary quality which was characterized by the teams play and good sportsmanship on and off the court. We always strived to attain excellency in every game and the ex- periences acquired from both the wins and losses were invaluable. Thomas O ' Toole I George Hutchinson i Francis Ward, Captain Edward Mitchell Paul Conger The 1979-1980 Girl ' s Basket- ball team had an outstanding season. Joanne Quinn, Karen Pallotta, Tricia Williamson, Michelle King, and Carolyn Pasquale pulled their team to a season of 13 and 7. That ' s an unbelievable improvement from the previous year, a sea- son of 4 and 14. The girls were invited to a tournament at Tantasqua Re- gional High School. They played against Tantasqua and then Fitchburg. They were vic- tors over both of these squads and subsequently won the Ti- tle. The team held their own with the best in their league but their percentile of 65 was not good enough to assure them a spot in the District 111 Division 2 playoffs. However, the team was better than it appeared on paper, losing many one and two goal games. Despite early set-backs, the team rallied to win 3 out of its last four games, losing only to Midland League Champs Hudson. The sextet finished with a .500 record in the N.C.M.H.L., defeating a first-placed North Middlesex Team. The Gael seniors played a major role in the 79-80 season. They have made a remarkable improvement over the previous year. The record of 10-4 overall and 7-2 in the league shows that they had the desire and the capacity to win. As we honor our five seniors, Patricia Williamson, Marci Tor, Gail Sibya, Sharon McNally, and Pamela Queeney we would like to say, “you did a good job and have shown Clinton High a season to be proud of. 107 Sharon McNallv Marci Tor Patricia Williamson Pamela Queeney BASEBALL Under the second year coaching of Bernie Gaughan, The Gael baseball team started to play respectable ball. Even though they lost some tough ball games in which luck played a factor in the out- come, the effort and that NEVER SAY DIE AT- TITUDE, WHICH SEEMS TO CHARACTERIZE ALL C.H.S. sports was felt by all. The determination and effort of the team led by senior members, Capt. John Rauscher, George Hutchinson, Erancis Ward and Joseph Welch hopes to set an example for future baseball teams at C.H.S. Joseph Welch John Rauscher — Capt. George Hutchinson Francis Ward F ' TRACK This was the first year for Head Coach Christopher Lavelle and Assis- tant Coach Brian Murphy. They should be commended for the fine job they did with this year ' s edition of the Clinton High School Track Team. The team ' s 2-7 record was not indicative of many out- standing performances. The team was led by fifteen vivacious seniors: Co-Capts. Steven Ernst and William Alden, John Mitchell, Edward Mitchell, Thomas McEvilly, Brian McDonald, Richard Maypother, Caro- lyn Pasquale, Jon Klinkhamer, David Campbell, Howard Vosburg, Tony Zahariadi ' s, David Grant, Paul Papacolas, and Harvey Martin. The season had many highlights, among them Steven Ernst ' s time of 39.5 in the low hurdles (a new school record), and similar successes in the javelin and the low hurdles competi- tions in the Districts. Clinton ' s mile relay team of Ernst, Maypother, Timothy Turnbull, and John Mitchell captured first in the Districts (missing the school record by a mere two second- s), and Carolyn Pasquale, the only se- nior female member of the team, placed third in the Districts with her best mile run at 5:43. Although far from successful, our season marked a great improvement over previous years and leaves us with the hope of in- creased success in the not-too-distant fu- ture. As an added plus, singles players James Lucci and Loretta O ' Toole, and the doubles team of Carey O ' Donnell and Susan Donohue were invited to participate in the District 111 Tennis Tournament. Although we may not have posted a win- ning record, we definitely had a winning attitude, demonstrating good sportsman- ship wherever we went. We had a lot of fun together this year and we ' ll never forget our experiences on the tennis team. 114 I 115 GOLF Although it was a disappointing season, this year ' s Golf squad has shown great desire and fortitude throughout the 1980 season. Cherish, we ' ll always cherish The times of our lives Tomorrow ' s yesterday You turn around, the years have flown away Happiness was on our minds For many goals we sought to find Return, can we return To the times of our lives Welcome in tomorrow The future waits, deserves a chance to grow Much success we hope to find As we pass thru the sands of time Remember, please remember The times of our lives Remember our school days Where friends laughed, enjoyed life many ways Togetherness was nothing new For as a class we learned and grew Together, let ' s stay together Thru times of our lives acca af j ea e i380 Our Senior Week began in Mitchell Memorial Auditorium with the traditional Baccalaureate ceremony. The Reverend Everett W. Sahrbeck Jr., pastor of the Presbyterian Church gave the invocation, address, and benediction. With the singing of our class song came the realization that our graduation was just around the comer. Our Graduation Week was off to a great start and we hoped that it would never end. -11 jmam . -V3|||| B f.; H 1 Q o ? e 3, i980 Our class trip was held at the Oak ' n ' Spruce resort in Lee, Mass There we enjoyed basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball, frisbie, golf swimming, and delicious food. The day passed by quickly and al- though the trip was over, the memories will always remain with us. OUNOETi KEE HhUh I 1 , H 14 a ' a - - ' M • - saa iassam 5, ' JSSO Our class banquet was held at the elegant White Cliffs in Northboro. We had a wonderful time dancing and dining to the fine music of Glass Leaf. We were nearing the end of our high school days so every moment together was precious. Our last social gathering together was a night to re- member and cherish. ton Q ttme 7 , 980 June 7, 1980 marked the epitome of our high school careers as we gathered in the Town Hall to formally bid farewell to Clinton High Although the dismal weather forced the commencement exercises indoors, nothing could put a damper on our spirits on this long-awaited day. As we stood on the threshold of a new phase m our lives, we couldn ' t help but look back upon the many good times we enjoyed together during our high school years. The emotion of the day was heightened by the singing of our class song. The Times of Our Lives, ' written by Patricia Lowe and Hope Lucci, and led by Patrick Ball and Veronica Richards. Our four years of high school and Graduation Day itself passed by us all too quickly, and we would do it all over again if only we could We will always cherish the memories and friendships that we have amassed at C H.S., yet we look forward to the new friendships that await us and the many new horizons that he ahead of us on our journey over the sands of time y fItat ' 1 yP w -i; I i CLASS OF 1980 COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL Saturday, June the seventh nineteen hundred and eighty 2:00P.M.
