Qjet watiofi With our years at Clinton High School quickly drawing to a close, we would like to pause to show our warmest apprecia- tion to the two people who have guided us through these four years. Always willing to work a little harder, to go a little farther, to stay a little longer, they worked tirelessly to give us the best years we could have had. So, to Mr. Gerry Foley and Mrs. jane Anne Weaver we dedicate this yearbook and say — f77ia i ts 5 c c ? or fflomec o ujr „ oo(’ ( r c 5, 77 “ 0 Q)rea n ffoes cm orcoer For the Class of 79, our Junior year held much in store for us. We were to be the first class to present and organize a Spirit Week among all classes which would eventually lead up to our Homecoming. During this week everyone was full of pep while we walked through the corridors decorated in Green and Gold. There was a special feeling of closeness among all classes, as we practiced cheers, wrote poems, and prepared ourselves for the big game. Saturday came and the Gaels had a super victory against Marlboro which made our Homecoming a night to remember and enjoy. We danced away to the music of Limerick Road and had an exciting night. The court consisted of Andrea Innamorati, Eileen Murphy, Kathy Tagg, Evelyn Jimenez, Cathy McLaughlin, and Queen Cathy Ruberti. 6 7 i J .[ I On May 12, 1978, at the Sheraton Yankee Drum- mer, our Junior Prom had finally arrived. Everyone was at their best. The girls whirled around in beau- tiful gowns, as their escorts proved that they truly are gentlemen. We became upper classmen when the officers of the graduating class of 78 handed down their caps and gowns to our four officers. The night seemed so beautiful and before we knew it it was time to leave, but that wasn ' t the end, because in the morning we were off and run- ning to Hampton Beach for a beautiful day. The Junior Prom ' s court consisted of Cynthia Lewinski, Maria Montoya, Julia Daly, Karen Moore, Jean Grady, Trisha Cafarlli, and Evelyn Jemenez as Queen. May 2, 7$ “eTAis One -s ' Mae 9 au ” I On March 10, 1979 the Senior Hop was held at the Monoosnock Country Club. This was to mark our last formal dance and we were determined to make it a night to remember. The theme was Too Much Heaven which seemed to define the night perfectly. Although this was our last dance we knew we had much more in store for us. The court was Loma Bellicce, Andrea Innamorati, Heidi Studa, Kelly O ' Connell, and Queen Trisha Cafarelli. Like the rise of the sun, we, Freshmen, as a class opened our eyes to a new beginning. It was an important, fresh start, for all of us. We were now a part of Clinton High School growing together and learning about each other, but most important, the world around us. We were starting to stand on our own two feet, to experience happiness and joy, pain and sorrow. It was a scary feeling but we, nonetheless, started out full of energy and togetherness which we felt would keep our class as a whole. To help us keep the sun always shining, we chose Mr. Gerald Foley and Mrs. Jane Ann Weaver as our advisors. Together with our first elected class officers: Sean Brennan as President, Lucille Leoni as Vice-President, Andrea Innamorati as Secretary, and Nancy McNally as Treasurer; we set out to raise money to make the Class of 1979 the best class CHS has ever had. We began our four years of high school with a car wash, running a concession stand at all basketball games, and dances. These were all a success. It illustrated that we were looking forward to a promising and bright future. Loyalty toward our country. Loyalty toward our school, Loyalty toward our class. i)op iorMort This year was a year for fun and excitement, along with studying. We were no longer timid and afraid. We were a little older and a little more experience and our class spirit was beginning to really show. We all pulled to- gether and held a Supermarket Bf Sweepstakes on Nov. 18th at the Victory Market. We sold many tickets and spent a lot of hard work organizing it and carrying it out. It was a great success! For the second year in a row, we ran a concession stand at every CHS Basketball game, even though more food went to the mouths of our workers. This year we chose four new class officers to lead us high in the sky to ultimate success. James Hazel as President, Patricia Gavin as Vice-President, Andrea Innamorati as Secretary, and John Rushing as Treasurer. In December of our Sophomore Year, we entered for the first time into Interclass Dramatics. We chose a Case for two Detectives which made everyone see that our class was even talented in the theater. Before leaving school for the summer vacation, at the close of our Sophomore Year, we received our class rings. We realized now we were getting older but we knew that there were two more years to follow and that these coming years would be full of even more excitement. So, we set a foot out and dove into our Junior Year with a lot of determination. On February 18, 1977, we held a Spaghetti Supper, which was one of our first big projects. A few members of our class worked as waiters and waitresses, serving the townspeople who supported us. As usual, it was a lot of fun and quite profitable. JUNIOR YEAR As the trees grew leaves of all colors and crispness filled the air, we entered into our Junior Year. We knew this year would be a year to remember, so we all set out on the right foot to make our expectations a reality. We started this year with our first formal Homecoming Dance on November 5, 1977. Prior to that night of elegance and excitment, we held for the very first time ever, what we called out Spirit Week. During this week the class of 79 set up various activities for the whole school, such as a flag football game, corridor decorating, class cheer and class poem competitions. In this manner each class had a chance to show their own spirit, but nobody could match the spirit of our class the class of 79. By the end of this week we were all so enthusiastic that on Saturday, Homecoming Day, our Gaels beat Marlboro which made our night even more special. On December 3, 1977, with an undeafeated record the Gaels traveled to Springfield, MA, for the Central-Western Mass Super Bowl along with most of the town of Clinton supporting us 100%. It was a great accomplishment to even be there but, unfortunately, Minnechaug Regional beat the Gaels with a score of 41 to 27. Also, in the month of December, our class was a part of the Interclass Dramatics Competition for the second year. This time our play was called the Walnuts and two of our classmates were awarded for their fine perfor- mances. Patricia Cafarelli was best actress and Pat- rick Notaro received the best actor award. Time was passing quickly, we were now all at ease with ourselves, our classmates and our school that before we knew it winter turned to spring. Along with Spring came our Junior Prom on May 12, 1978. With the sun slowly sinking our Junior Year was coming to a close. But before we left we payed tri- bute to our well deserving principal John J . Gib- bons who had decided to retire. Although many good times have passed, we looked forward to the future our Senior Year. DUSK To show how much talent our class really does have, many Se- nior artists painted murals which gave the art room of Clin- ton High, a warm glow. This was our final year! There was so many things that we would be involved in for the last time. Since our first Spirit Week was a great success, we organized the same activities, competition, and even more for the second time. On Thanksgiving Day we crushed our rivals Holy Name on Fuller Field which concluded the football careers of our senior athletes. Following the game, many of us took part in the annual Thanksgiving Day Show. It was soon that time of year again — time for Interclass Drama- tics Competition. This was the third and final time for our class to prove themselves to be the greatest actors and actresses in CHS. You know what? We did, we won best play for the first time. What a way to end! This year we chose “Lizzie of the Lighthouse as our play. Once again we had winners .... Julia Daly was awarded best actress and Jack Lachman as best actor. Before long, March arrived and we were more ready than ever to attend our final formal .... our Senior Hop. It was the best ever for all of us and an event we ' ll always remember. As we leave High School we look forward into the future and see another sunrise, a whole new beginning one thing we were sure of, we grew together as one and we ' d be going out as a class. . Our football team, led by tri-captains Kevin Gibbons, Michael Pallotta, and Chris Graham was out to win this year and proved it with their 7-1-1 record. The team gave it all they had, and with a few breaks, could have been undefeated. Their 26-21 victory over eventual league champion Milford showed what kind of team the Gaels really were. The season ended with a super victory over the Thanksgiving rival, Holy Name. Kevin Gibbons was honored for his offensive efforts and Jim Hazel for his defensive skill by the Knights of Columbus. Junior Steve Ernst was chosen Most Valuable Player. The Wor- cester Telegram and Gazette chose Michael Pallotta for its Super Team, with Michael Garofoli, Kevin Gibbons, and Jim Hazel, receiving Honorable Mention. As our senior gridders have played their last game for CHS, we will always remember the spirit and determi- nation they displayed on Fuller Field. We will always remember the good times and hard work that goes along with performing for the Gael fans at every half-time show. However, there will always be one special event that will prevail over our twirling experiences and be one of our most memorable times, the first time Clinton High Twirlers entered competition. We could never part without extending our greatest appreciation to someone who has never let us down, put up with so much, and has been the best friend throughout the fall seasons. So to Mrs. Judith Innamorati we, the Seniors, say Thanks. Mrs. Innamorati Advisor Andrea Innamorati Majorette I Cindy Lewinski Jean Grady Denise McCaffrey Karen Moore Carol Dowd tit CHEERLEADERS Cheering the football team on to another fantastic sea- son, we conquered many long and hard practices for the sake of the boys, the student body, and ourselves. Soon after, we began another long season. It was dur- ing this season that the C.H.S. basketball team reached the State District Finals. With much pride we cheered these boys on during this unforgettable time. It was espe- cially exciting for the four seniors who would never again cheer for a C.H.S. team. So to co-captains Trisha Cafarelli and Patricia Gavin along with Mary Pat Moynihan and Eileen Murphy — Good Luck in the many years to come. Mary Pat Moynihan Eileen Murphy CUKTON] CROSS COUNTRY The Cross Country team under first-year coach, Jim Maattala, raced to another successful season. The Gael harriers finished with a record of 5-4, despite having only two seniors. The young squad was led by captain Jamo McDonald and Diane Vanasse. We applaud the team for their fine season. Beth Clisham Co-Captain Evelyn Jimenez Co-Captain Loma Bellucci Tricia Gavin k i I | Led by the four seniors, Co-Captain Tricia Gavin, Co-Captain Eve Jimenez, Beth Clisham, and Loma Bellucci, this years young team conquered an unforgettable season. Although they were on the short end of the stick they stayed together and surprised many opponents. After many hard and tiring summer practices, they started what would become a high scoring season. As proof of this, Co-Captain Eve Jimenez became the third highest scorer in the Midland League. At the close of the Field Hockey season, and as their High School careers come to a close, the four seniors would like to take this time to thank Mrs. Jane Ann Weaver for all that she has done for them and for their team. FIELD HOCKEY I The Clinton girls volleyball team had a fairly good year. Although they had more losses than wins, it was the enjoyment that kept their spirits high. Miss Beaulieu has done a commendable job. She worked the team hard and pulled them through till the end. With Anne Butler as the captain, and the hard effort of the girls, they were able to accomplish their usual, skillful, and well played matches. Their skillful spikers, Ann Butler, Patty Peto, Karen Moore, Kathy Tagg and Joanne Cooney, did an excellent job in gaining points. But, of course, without Theresa Connery, Joanne Cooney, and Denise Fitzgerald the team would never have been complete. Joanne Cooney Denise Fitzgerald A 91 1 BASKETBALL This years basketball team went as far as any in the school ' s history. The team finished at 16-7, highlighted by a great victory over Algonquin in the semi-finals of the District III tournament. The team was extremely hard working and very competitive, all of its losses coming in close games. The seniors on this years squad performed admira- bly. Jim Coyne, Gary Mikels, Mike Garofoli, Don Mitchell, Jim McDonald, and Marty Murphy, showed outstanding leadership and dedication throughout the season. Congratulations to them and the team for a job well done. To- gether with Coach Boroweic, we learned that through working together and excel- ling in sportsmanship, a sense of pride in ourselves and our school was again realized in another form. Our sincere thanks to our Coach, Mrs. Borowiec, for her untiring and fruitful ef- forts. A 97 I The 1978-79 Gaels hockey team showed throughout a disappointing season, the guts and determination Clinton teams are famous for. Re- bounding from a disasterous beginning to finish with a record of 5-16-1, the Gaels captured their first Midland League games ever by beating Maynard twice. The team was honored when Captain Kevin Haley was chosen by the NCMHC as team Most Valuable Player, league Co-MVP, and first team All-Star. Junior Chris Litterio also represented Clinton on the All-Star squad. Other Senior members of the team included Dan Larson, Paul Bailey, John Moran, Ed Men- doza and Jim Santoro. ! Seniors Mike Kil- coyne and Sean Brennan, shot consistant golf, and the result was several good scores. The gaels were rarely out of it, and were a few breaks away from a winning season. Mike Kilcovne Sean Brennan 101 TRACK It was not one of the more successful seasons for the team, especially the se- niors. It would be more appropriate to look at the season as a rebuilding year, under new Head Coach Bob Shilalie. There were bright spots, however. First place in the pole vault at the Dis- trict III relays, five District qualifiers, Junior Steve Ernst ' s breaking of the 330 low hurdle record, and the league meet at Shrewsbury in which almost everyone produced personal highs. A record of 1 and 9 is not the best that four-year varsity performers Don Mitchell, Tim Bailey, Mike Collins and Jamo McDonald can remember, but undoubtably it was a meaningful one. For other seniors Ben Morgan, John Kane, Patty Peto, Jimmy Hazel, Bob Frisch, and Ed Alinkowitz, it the last track season, a fighting effort with great enthusiasm, in the mold of a CHS trackster. 1 1 102 Bob Frisch Mike Collins Sg Ed Alinkowitz W I -• John Kane Jim Hazel Jamo McDonald Ben Morgan Patty Peto 4 Tim Bailey First-year coach Bernie Gaughan took over the helm for our senior year and produced one of the better teams and records in recent years. The Gaels are currently 5-11 and though their season is not complete, they have showed the spirit and hustle that typifies Clinton High. Co-captains Sean Donnelly and John Costello led a group of six seniors who made up the nucleus of this much-improved team. Hurlers Dave DiBenedetto, Donnelly and Costello, in- fielders Paul Praderio and Ken Sanginario, and out-fielder Kevin Haley complemented their solid defense with a solid hitting attack. We wish Coach Gaughan the best of l uck in later years, and thank him for his leadership qualities and will to win. Even though their record was not the best C.H.S. has ever seen, they showed a remarkable improvement over the previous year. The 5-7 record showed that they had the capacity to be a winning team and the desire to show their coach, Caesar DiTullio, that they have taken pride in their team and in their school. I yoacra aareate Our Senior Week began with the traditional Baccalaureate cere- monies. Reverand Charles Dumphy, Pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Church of Clinton, was the guest speaker at the event held in the C.H.S. Auditorium. This was a memorable day, and with the singing of our class song we realized that our days at Clinton High were nearing the end. Our Graduation Week was off to a fine start and we wanted this week to go on forever. 112 I I k I fl I I 6 7 (9Z9 On Wednesday, we traveled to the Oak ' n ' Spruce resort in Lee, Mass, for our class trip. There we played endless games of frisbie, basketball, softball, tennis and golf. We swam, road horseback, and ate mounds of great food. The day flew by too fast but we all had such a super time, we wish we could do it all again. I I I a o ( It was Thursday, and time for our class ban- quet. So we were off to the White Cliffs in Northboro. We ate chicken or ham, and danced to the great music of Glass Leaf. We enjoyed a special treat when several of our classmates, namely Mike Kilcoyne, Chuck Young, Mike Polewartzyk, Roger Elliot, and Dave Leger helped out the band. The group ' s rendition of Freebird reminded us of how close we were to the end of our high school years. Q)a y , V w 9 9Z9 T Graduation day finally arrived. After four years of waiting we now wish that this last day would remain forever. Putting on our gowns, we soon realized that this was to be one of the fondest memories of our lives. Suddenly we were all grown up and on our way, and we wish we had the chance to stay, oh yesterday came suddenly, for yesterday is now a dream. kf ' V ' ft V r % i | ff Vj ' I EXERCISES OF GRADUATION PROCESSIONAL ' Pomp and Circumstance Elgar SELECTION kj g u t “Star Spangled Banner Francis Scott Key INVOCATION The Reverend Joseph F.
