We found out that de- spite all we knew, there was so much more that we still had to learn and do. We had our first class project, a flea market, which incorporated the help of our entire class. It was a huge success! To start us on our way, we elected our Class Officers, Paul Garofoli — President; Daniel Gleason — Vice president; Lee Gosselin — Secretary; and Brian Lynch — Treasurer. Student Council repre- sentatives were Pat Sheridan and Julie Moore. SOPHOMORE YEAR Eager, and a little wiser, we returned in Sep- tember as sophomores. We started in right by electing Joe Hoag, Diane Gadomski, Lee Gosse- i lin, and Barbara Gleason as our class officers. Our activities, under the direction of our advisors, included the great success of our New England Patriots vs C.H.S. faculty basketball game. In December we displayed for the first time our ( acting abilities in Interclass Dramatics. We presented our comedy skit entitled Capricious Pearls. We anticipated the coming of our Junior year since we would receive our Class Rings we would become closer united as a whole, to the class of ' 78. JUNIOR YEAR We launched our Junior Year and under the guidance of our class officers: Paul Garofoli, Tim Kittredge, Lee Gos- selin, and Barbara Gleason. The Middle School Cafetorium hosted our first semi- formal dance, The Junior Fall Hop. Reigning as queen was Mary Jean McNally. Attended by Adele Valley, Roxane Bouchard, Susan Magowan, Lee Gosselin, Julie Moore, and Diane Rieth as her court. In March, President Jimmy Carter left us with a lasting impression of how Clinton will long remember the night he chose our town in his Meet the People campaign. The social highlight of the year was the Prom held at Alphonse ' s Powder Mill in Maynard. It was an enchant- ing evening remembered by all. Chosen as queen was Cindy Kittredge. Joining her were Maureen McNamara, Mary Gannon, Julie Murrman, Karen Gauthier, Adele Valley, and Teresa Crowley as her court. i SENIOR YEAR Our senior year fell upon us all to soon! We started off in a fast pace and swung into our Disco Dance. The senior class was awarded Best Play entitled, What Ever Happened to Good Old Ebenezer Scrooge? We also received honors for Best Supporting Actress and Actor, Heide Eriksen and Paul Garofoli. How could we ever forget our rival for the football season. Milford! We had the pleasure of welcoming Senator Edward M. Brooke to C.H.S. to give us an insight on foreign, national, and state affairs. Our final turn approached us, but as we turned there was an obstacle the Blizzard of ' 78. The finale of our senior year began with the measuring for our caps-n-gowns, rehearsal, singing our class song, and decisions that would be our guidelines for the future. U rr { yt. With Tri- Captains Mike Ernst, Tom Vetras, and Jim Grealis providing outstanding leadership and character, they backboned the Gaels to their first Midland League Championship since 1950. Coach Archie Cataldi and his staff directed an awesome offense and a hard-hitti ng defense to take the title since he came here three seasons ago. Their success was also recognized by the press as Mike Ernst and Tom Vetras qualified for the Super team. Also Jim Grealis and Steve Ernst represented Clinton on the Class B All-Stars. The outstanding success of the Clinton High Football team and the support it ' s fans gave them exemplifies the spirit of the class of 1978. TRI-CAPTAINS: Tom Vetras, Mike Ernst, Jim Grealis COACHES: Mark Kiesling, Archie Cataldi, Bob Cooney 61 Mike Ernst Joe Hoag Jim Grealis Dave Hazel Tom Vetras Pat Sheridan 62 SUPERBOWL The high flying Gael footballers traveled to Springfield in a super bowl contest with Min- nechaug Regional of Wil- braham. The Falcons capitilized on numerous Gael turnovers to take a surprising 35-6 lead at halftime. But the Gaels showed the character and desire they displayed throughout the season and came back to score 21 second half points to make it 41-27. In their last games Mike Ernst set a , rushing record with 227 yards while Tom Vetras set a record with most ' tackles and assists. Although they lost on the scoreboard, the repu- tation and pride of Clin- ton High surely won. We learned to win at life, but also to lose proudly. ' rcf t SSI Lee Gosselin Ellen Farragher TWIRLERS 66 lp££iH If -.v r Kfy RK 1 CROSS COUNTRY The Clinton High Cross Country team had another fine season compiling a respectable 6-4 leg. Seniors Paul Garofoli, Gerry Campbell, and Gregg Braunhardt paced the Gaels to another winning record. Team members and Coach Glenn Braunhardt deserve credit for a job well done. We wish continued success to fu- ture teams. Jerry Campbell Tri-captain Greg Braunhardt Tri-captain Paul Garofoli Tri-captain 1 VOLLEYBALL The Volleyball team had another suc- cessful season this year. Under the direc- tion of Coach Beaulieu they had a win- ning season finishing with a record of 9-6. Leading the team all the way with her spikes, bumps, and serves was senior captain Evelyn Gonzales. Qualifying for the Districts proved that their greatness was outstanding! I Pam Lavelle — Captain Roxane Bouchard — Captain CUNTW, HOCKEY With a returning nucleus of seniors, Coach Bob Shilalie molded his sextet into a much improved team. With the leadership of tri-captains Steve Frost, Kevin Lynch, and Paul Moran, the young Gael hockey squad upped its record from a dismal 1-8 record in 1977 to a respectable 7-9 in 1978. In closing, we applaud Bob Shilalie and the tri-captains for their excellent work. We would also like to mention the seniors, who through their effort and hustle, made this season possible. They were: Michael Mascetti, Daniel Welton, Chris Baird, Brian Lynch, Ed Durkin, Paul Lowe, and Pat Sheridan. 72 Kevin Lynch — Tri-captain Steve Frost — Tri-captain Paul Moran — Tri-captain Ed Durkin Brian Lynch Paul Lowe BASKETBALL The ' 77-78 edition of the Gael basketball team had a respectable but, in some ways, a disap- pointing year. Coach Gerry Foley ' s troops finished 11-8 in the regular season gaining them a berth in the Clark Tournament but they were eliminated in the semi-finals by a strong Algon- quin team to finish 12-9 overall. Coach Foley and the team hoped to be selected for the district playoffs at season ' s end but were passed by which greatly disappointed them. Still, it was a rewarding year as this year ' s squad provided Coach Foley with his 100th win as a coach at Clinton High. Co-captain David Hazel was honored by being selected to the T G class B All-Stars. Thanks to Coaches Foley and Gaughan, captains Hazel and Notaro and the team for an exciting season. David Hazel — Co-captain Peter Notaro — Co-captain 75 Tim Kittredge Dan Gleason Paul Garofoli Tom Vetras Mark Sargent ■ +.% M K L3J ■ IfKyjgk- flliiV % Kil . ' t I ?S ifcj i c Sm v, FIELD HOCKEY The Field Hockey team was led by Pam Lavelle, Liz Timlege, Lee Gosse- lin, Lisa Petricca, and Julie Moore. Although our record was not what we hoped it to be, we profited from our some what disap- pointing season. The team learned that through | working together another great goal was attained. The C.H.S. Field Hockey team was special both on and off the field. Their dedication and to- getherness was felt and appreciated by all. Liz Timledge Pam Lavelle 79 GIRLS BASKETBALL The Girl ' s Varsity Basketball squad was a hustling and daring team. Even though they found themselves on the losing end, they always put out to their utmost. Coaching these young Gaelet- tes was Sandra Borowiec, who with se- niors Mary Notaro and Theresa Cashes led our troops into many an exciting game. Thanks to the team and their coach, we enjoyed a thrilling although disappointing season. 80 Mary Notaro Theresa Cashes Clinton Gaels Track team was led by 8 of the most spirited enthusiastic athletes in a long time. They were Mike Ernst, James Donnelly, Mark Devaney, Heide Eriksen, Ted Har- mon, Paul Garofoli, Jerry Campbell, and Steve Mendoza. However having a 3-7 season, many outstanding perfor- mances were made in the individual events. Jerry Campbell who broke the school record of 11 ' 9 with a vault of 12 ' 3 in the pole vault thus bringing the Clinton Gaels their only first in the Midland League meet. Other places were James Donnelly in the Triple Jump, Mike Ernst in the High Hur- dles, Paul Garofoli in the Mile, and Ted Harmon in the 440, and Long Jump. Clintons only senior female member, Heide Eriksen won first in the Midland League, setting a record of 136 ' 5 ' ' in the Javelin. She shattered both the District and State records with a toss of 136 ' 4 placing first in that event. Our coaches Bernie Gaughan, Angel Nieves and Mark O ' Malley used best of their knowledge to train each of us in our special events and help us when the going was rough. Knowing that each of us gave our best performances the Track team is as proud as if we had an undefeated season! TRACK 82 Coach Bernie Gaughan Ted Harmon Heide Eriksen Mike Ernst Tom Seward Paul Garofoli Mark Devaney Steve Mendoza Jerry Campbell Jim Donnelly 83 BASEBALL ■ mwiii iii— Ed Durkin Martin Hutchinson Pat Sheridan Tom Vetras Paul Lowe Dan Gleason Mark Sargent 85 Mike Goodsell TENNIS 86 GOLF Under the excellent coaching of Robert Cooney, and the fine shooting of Seniors Paul Everson, Brian Lynch, Kevin Lynch, and Mike O ' Malley, the Gael golfers produced another winning season. The team compiled an impres- sive 11-1-2 record, good for second place in the Midland League. We extend our appreciation to Coach Cooney and to the fine season the team gave us. Extra — Just before Press time . . . A special honor came to the Clinton Golf Team as Kevin Lynch won the State Schoolboy Tournament. The school and in fact the whole town is truly proud of Kevin for this great achievement. Kevin Lynch Brian Lynch Coach Bob Cooney Mike O ' Malley 87 SOFTBALL Leading the way for the C.H.S. Girls Softball team were senior standouts, Roxane Bouchard, Mary Hast- ings, Theresa Cashes, and Kathy Fontana. Caesar Di- tullio as new head coach inspired the girls to strive for a winning season. In spite of a deceiving record the girls took great pride in their performance, which will be remembered throughout future years at Clinton High! Despite the humid weather, our spirits were high. The Reverend Thomas Diggs, our guest speaker, gave us much insight as to what the world holds for us. Our class song was sung with Wendy Warren as soloist, accompanied by Peter Tivnan on the piano. After the •exercises we moved to the cafeteria for coffee and donuts. . 95 (j as fTrift On Tues., May 30, we boarded our buses and headed for | the Oak ' n Spruce in South Lee, Mass. In addition to swim- ming in the outdoor pool, we also played volleyball, softball, tennis, and went horseback riding. After eating all the bar- bequed chicken and corn-on-the-cob that we could, we once again boarded our buses for the long ride home. Despite | numerous sunburns, everyone had a super time! On May 31, we arrived at the White Cliffs Res- taurant in Northboro, Mass., for a formal dinner and some great dancing, which was provided by Ronnie Boston ' s Band. After Harold Naughton ' s floor show, the White Cliffs will never be the same. We ' d do it all over again, if only we could.
