Clinton High School Memorabilia 1977 Volume 64 TO OUR CLASS ADVISORS “THANKS IS NOT ENOUGH The phrase. Thank-you, seems so inappropriate to use. Our gratitude goes beyond the expression of words. You have been with us from dawn to dusk — Mr. Scar- sella, Mrs. Starr, Mr. Pupecki. We also owe a special thanks to Mr. Walter O ' Malley and Mrs. Scarsella for helping us during our first years at Clinton High. Our class spirit can be mainly attributed to your devo- tion, motivation and compassion for our goals. From our first project, Our Grocery Spree to Graduation Day you gave of yourselves freely and openly while demanding the best for the class of 1977. ( . ' - W ! Kf r — 1 Freshman Year — The Dawn September, 1973, marked the dawning of the class of 1977. With the early morning rays brought confusion and ap- prehension of our years to come at CHS. We soon settled into a routine and became ac- quainted with the halls and rooms of Clinton High. We were introduced to our five ad- visors and were soon engaged in our first pr oject — a Grocery Spree, which turned out to be the most successful project in the history of Clinton High. Sophomore Year No longer are we the lost generation of Clinton High School. We can now find our classrooms with ease, but now we must help the new Freshmen find theirs. We now find ourselves deeply involved in school activities. These include our first dance, our second and more successful Grocery Spree and Interclass Dramatics. 6 Traditionally sophomores are the youngest competitors in the Inter- class Dramatics. The competition was tough and we didn ' t win the best play award, but we were sur- prised and delighted with four out of a possible eight awards. Lisa Paulino took the best actress trophy and Dan Eaton received the best supporting actor award. Also two honorable mention awards were given out, one to Cheryle O ' Connell and the other to Mary Anna McNamara. Sophomore Interclass Dramatics RUMMAGE RIP-OFF 7 Homecoming Dance On November 8, 1975, the Junior Class held their first formal dance in the school cafeteria. After long hours of decorating, the cafeteria was transformed into a ballroom. We all became the Cinderellas and Prince Charmings for the evening. The Queen and her Court were chosen to be Jean Lamlein (Queen), Mary Conney, Noreen Gonyea, Gail McLaughlin, Jackie Roberts, Lynne Gallagher and Christine Lamb. The music was provided by Bittercreek. After much dancing, eating, and simply enjoying ourselves, the night ended and it was time to go home. If only it could have lasted longer! 9 Junior Year Interclass Dramatics - A VICTORY It ' s Cold in Them Thar Hills was a tremendous success. The class of 1977 not only won the best play award but also received the best actress award — Lisa Paulino; best actor — Paul O ' Mal- ley; best supporting actor — Paul Iacobucci. We really owe much of our thanks to Huburt, a pig, and two chic- kens that we were able to borrow from a local farm. The competition was tough, but because we had terrific support from our classmates, the class of 1977 met and conquered the challenge. 10 On May 28, 1976 one of the most nostalgic events of our high school years took place at the Sheraton-Lincoln Inn. Our theme was Over the Rainbow, which was per- fect for the day we had for our Prom. This day will always be a shining mo- ment in our lives, espe- cially for those who com- plemented our class as the Queen and Court. The an- ticipation was as exciting as the event. Even now that it ' s over it was a beau- tiful evening we shall never forget. The Queen was: Lynne Gallagher. The girls chosen to be in the Court were: Jean Lam- lein, Mary Lynch, ■ Marilyn Coyne, Ree Ricker, Noreen Gonyea, and Lisa Mallard. 11 VoMI i IK flpk 3 Si lia j ' V; Jl jusirt lu ' S ,;- iUr. ti vwMKyr ! iwt ; - ? v? 1 I BU SS c S m Im ■- ■ -V 9 ' lg||pr ‘ yf , ; Jf jiVi 1 .- BHf V ■£ . We were led through a world of Pilgrims, puppets, and monsters. We met the olde st stuntman in the world and were shown that a Climax Watch does indeed take a licking and still keeps ticking. We thank Danny and Lisa for putting up with us and especially Mr. Lowe, for making it all possible. Once again, the Thanksgiving Show was a success! The hard work, rehearsals, and frustration was well worth the smiles on the faces of the audience. We hope that fu- ture classes at C.H.S. will keep with the important tradition of Thanksgiving Spirit, so much a part of our lives at Clinton High. ; FRANKENSTEIN SLEPT HERE ANOTHER VICTORY Another successful evening. It was too good to be true. Again we were awarded with the “Best Play trophy, along with “Best Actor, and Best Actress, also Best Supporting Actress. They were won by Anastos Chiavards, Igor, Donna Foster, The Phantom Bride, and Cheryl O ' Connell, The Werewolf. The atmosphere however, was hardly spooky. 17 Jay Gannon President Thomas Dickhaut Vice President Kathy Burke Secretary Diane Whitney Treasurer SENIOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT YEARBOOK STAFF Special Editors Editorial Staff (from left to right) Ann Gillespie — Assistant Editor, Mary Anna McNamara — Editor in Chief, Anastos Chivaras — Editor, Mary Lynch and Lynn McNally — Busi- ness Managers. From left to right our court was; Lynn McNally, Janine Ingano, Gail McLaughlin, Queen Jean Lamlein, Marilyn Coyne, Kathy Burke, Diane Whitney. 32 Peter J. Jerry Collins paced the Gael harriers to a 7-5 season with wins over tough Midland League contenders such as Milford and Hudson. Coach Glenn Braunhardt worked the Gaels but it all payed off. The team will miss Jerry, but is sure have a great team next year as well. 1976-77 Field Hockey Team The Clinton High Field Hockey Team ' s record 3-11 doesn ' t do justice to the kind of team it was. With Co-Capt. Mary Cooney at left inner and Donna Lachman at left wing, the Gaelettes forward line put a real scare into many an opponents defense. The defensive work of Co-Capt. Nancy Murphy, Ann Gillespie, and Mary An- drejczyk kept the other teams on their toes. The end of the season was highlighted by the appointment of Donna Lachman, Mary Cooney, and Nancy Murphy to the Midland League Honorable Mention Team. Co-Capt. Nancy Murphy Co-Capt. Mary Cooney Ann Gillespie Susan Grady Mary Martin Sarah Colburn Donna Lachman Mary Andrejczyk 85 FOOTBALL Although the teams record did not reflect the style of play preformed by the team; as senior members of the 1976-77 edition of the C.H.S. Football team feel we were the nucleus of stronger teams to come over the horizons. We know that we will always hold our heads high because of this. Our only regret is no longer being able to say We ' ll be back next year. 86 Mark Hutchinson — C.B Tom Dickhaut Joe Quill — L.B 87 Mike O ' Donoghue Ray Milton — N.G Brian Bradl ru ,1 - A VOLLEYBALL The Volleyball team, under the guidance of coach, Madeleine Beaulieu had a good season this year. Their 8-5 record didn ' t get them the Midland League title, but it did put them in a playoff spot for the District III tournament where they took that title. They went on to the States where they played well against Boston, but were defeated. With the superb playing of Janice King, Donna Foster, and Trisha O ' Toole, the Gaelettes proved to the other teams that you just don ' t mess with the BEST! This team was one of Coach Gerry Foley ' s small- est but none surpassed it in desire. Coach Foley had this team hustling and consistently taking advantage of the opponents mistakes, but in the end, the taller teams prevailed. It was especially fitting that this team finished it ' s season on a winning note, because win or lose, they gave their all. Girls Basketball Girls Basketball C. Capt. — Janice King Co. Capt. — Mary Cooney Donna Foster Sharon O ' Malley Lynn McNally Nancy Murphy Ice Hockey Clinton High participated for the first time in Midland League play this year. It was a learning season and the Gaels finished with a 1-8 record. The team was led by three strong-skating seniors in Sean Kilcoyne, Martin Cut- ler, and Dave Trinque. The Gaels also received excellent goaltending from se- nior Paul Meilinger. Coach Robert Schilale is looking forward to a more productive season next year. It can also be noted that Brian Lynch scored the first goal in Clinton history in a game against Marlboro. -,y Baseball This was the first year for Head Coach Bill Walsh. His influence gave us the hustle and desire we needed to de- velop a competative attitude. The Gaels were led by their five returning starters; Co- captains Tom Dickhaut and Steve Soldi, Mark Hutchin- son, joe Kittredge and Steve Sargent.
