So in return for all your time and hard work, we the class of nineteen hundred and seventy-four, dedicate this yearbook to you. We set out intent on forming a class we could be proud of. To aid us in this task of con- structing a class we chose Miss Ann Trainor, Mr. Daniel McLaughlin, and Mr. Edward Phil bin as our ad- FRESHMEN YEAR To lead our class we chose as of- ficers, Chet McNamara, president, Marjorie Magowan, vice-president. Ellen O ' Donnell, secretary, and Pa- trick Thompson, treasurer. visors. J 32 And so we began, filled with class spirit, enthusiastic, eager, and just the slightest bit fearful, setting our sights on making the class of “74 one of the best. Memories lingered from that first glorious year at C.H.S., but yet they con- tinued even though time was coming down on our first session at that famed place. 33 For many of us that first year was a year of many firsts. Many of our athletes put on the armor that would some day put them in the hall of fame. For others it was the beginning of a new era of learning. For some of us it was the first time to cheer for something that we were really proud of. To a choice few it was a time for leadership. But one thing was for sure, it was the beginning of a new friendship for all of us. SUMMER YOUTH 35 SOPHOMORE YEAR By the end of our first year, the newness of high school had worn off, and we began our time as sopho- mores ready and willing to curve our chapter in Clinton High history. Although busy with our studies, we found time to participate in school activities, and to contribute to school spirit. We won the interclass dramatics compe- tition with our presentation of “Jerry Breaks a date,” with Rocky Elia taking the nod as best actor. The class of “74” was also well represented on the athletic field. 36 The Class of 1974 suffered a great loss with the passing of Patrick Hanley. In view of Pat ' s love of athletics we established a sports award in his honor as a tribute to our friend and classmate. The Patrick Hanley Memorial Award is presented annually to that senior member of the Clinton High football team chosen by his coaches as an athlete who by his actions best exemplifies the highest ideals of dedication to his team. S9  :3 O O v Ab4 FALL MATURITY 39 The first event of our Junior Year was Home- coming Day The Gaels battled fiercely against Marl- boro but. unfortunately came out on the short end of a 7 to 0 contest. Although disap- pointed, we would not let our CHS. spirit be dampened as we hurriedly made the final preparations for the coming evening ' s festivities. 40 In the evening we gathered in the Cafeteria, elaborately decorated to the theme of Colour My World,” to at- tend our first social function, the Homecoming Dance. The night of dancing to tho. sounds of Fate was high- lighted by the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, Nancy St. Louis, with class president Mike Walker doing the Honors. Members of the Court were; Colleen Cassidy, Karen Flannagan, Diane In- namorati, Gail Gorham, Jane Cadoret, and Mary Ann O ' Malley. Riding high on the wave of nos- talgia, we brought back all the glory that was grease with the fabulous Greaser Dance. Decked out in duck- tails, ponytails, leather jackets, chinos, saddle shoes and bobby socks, we arrived ready to twist the night away. 42 ■ Rock and Roll was provided by Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, Elvis, and other greats of the fifties as we bopped and strolled to “Rock Around the Clock, At the Hop , “Hounddog,” and countless other “golden oldies.” | r7 tt ut m , « t! : J, tc f j • • ., V yj jl Our Junior Prom, Knights in White Satin, was an evening that will stand foremost in our memories of our years at Clinton High. Arriving at the Holi- day Inn in Marlboro, we enjoyed an excellent meal and dancing to Clinton ' s own Joe Pupecki and his orchestra. Suzanne Jewett was chosen Queen of the Prom, and her court was comprised of Paula Ruberti, Kath- leen Shaughnessy, Colleen Cassidy, Paulette Kobus and Majorie Ma- gowan. The evening came to a close with the last dance and the traditional presentation of caps and gowns from the officers of the Senior Class to our class officers. With continued participation, the program will eventually develop into a varsity team. More than 100 boys played this year. The level of competition was good, and the team fared well in scrimmages with other towns. We hope that after a good beginning, the program will develop into another varsity sport. Hockey was long overdue at Clinton High, and we are proud to have started things on the right foot. The team was a mixture of seniors and underclassmen, that blended to per- fection. Each senior was a big contributor during the year. In addition 3 school records were set by seniors. Rich Fadgen soared 1 T3” in the Pole vault, and Pat Thompson set two records, one in the 180 low hurdles, when he raced to a time of 21.3 seconds, and the other in the Triple jump, when he leaped AO ' IVa. The team tied for the Midland League Championship, and also tied for the lead in the Midland League Meet. To cap off a super year, the Gaels placed 5th in the Gass D State Meet. The team also won the District 111 meet.
