Brendon Burgwinkle ' s basketball prowess had our opponents trying to convince Ralph Nader that he should be banned as a devasting threat to human sanity (theirs) . . . The appalling rumor that the class of 1973 had developed lary- ngitis was squelched with the additions of Brigid Ball, Meg Ball, Linda Card, Kathy Gibbons, and Karen Kamataris to our cheer- leading troupe; and for good measure, we decided to add a few sophomore girls to the twirling section: Carol Kilgour, Mary Beth Kittredge, Maggie Parker, Chris O’Toole, and Cheryl Soldi. So many unforgettable, historical and earth-shaking events were crowded into those scant eight months . . . The scoring of the first goal and also the first win in the history of the girls field hockey team . . . “Best Play — Class of 1973!!!” To this day, the glorious victory of the class of 1973 is extolled. The words, “Egad! What a Cad!” are still spoken in hushed reverence in memory of that night. Now, once one has attained the position of top dog, it is generally required that the right to be there be continually re-proven. We obliged. The all school play, “The Mouse That Roared” featured a prima- rily sophomore cast. A tight class schedule prevented our opening on Broadway. Due primarily to the outstanding intellectual development and oratory prowness of its members, our debate team had a winning season. Yes, that sophomore year was indeed a memorable one . . . our presence was felt in ever-growing circles: Chris Lavelle earned Honorable Mention from the Midland League’s list of football greats . . .
