MemoH f David Michael Waltrip was bom in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, November 30, 1916 and died in the Veterans’Hospital in Dwight. Illinois, January 11, 1952. After teaching in Greensboro, North Carolina for one year Mr. Waltrip served two years with the United States Navy. He was chairman of the Industrial Arts Department of C.C.H.S. for the past seven and one-half years. From Mr. Waltrip's own Industrial Arts Department to the whole student body, a good sized niche has been reserved for him whose loyal friendship and pleasing personality so richly deserve it. It must have been someone like Mr. Waltrip that Walter Foss was thinking of when he wrote these words about the house by the side of the road: Let Me live in my house by the side of the road--Where the race of men go by. They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong, Wise, foolish--so am I; Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat, Or hurl the cynic’s ban? Let me live in my house by the side of the road And be a friend to man.
