Class History T was in September nineteen hundred and twenty-two when a band of fourteen boys and thirty girls entered the Freshman class of the Clinton High School. For several years we had hea1'd of the Freshman elass, hut we knew not the true meaning of the word. Now as we look back over the years, we realize that we were indeed the greenest and freshest class that ever entered school, and we know that we lived up to our name of Freshmen. For one whole year we traveled through Math. and Latin, and with the aid of our teachers we finally mastered the fundamentals of these subjects which we have made use of in our other years. The next year held a great treat for us, for it was this year that we entered the New High School building. Our number had decreased from forty-four to thirty-nine, thirteen boys and twenty-six girls. Our hardships grew fewer and less difficult to surmount. Witli scarcely a care we reveled in the power we exercised over the less experienced travelers, called the green. The third year of the journey found us in a land more interesting, for the Senior platform was not far distant. Having been warned of the increased work in this year due to the Sciences and French we were to take up, again several from the band had turned into by-paths and only twenty-four remained. There was one outstanding memory in the minds of all of us at the end of the third year's journey-the memory of the banquet which we ourselves had given to those next above us, the Seniors. As we came to our Senior stand, in the place of the two we lost were four new members to join us, thus our number was increased to twenty-six. Our first act in the fall of twenty-five was to take upon ourselves some of the dignity which as Seniors we are supposed to assume, and to realize that Senior life called for as much hard work and loyal. spirit as did any other school year. We elected Bettie Herring as our president, and she has indeed proved a worthy one. For all our undertakings we have worked together with loyal cooperation, especially Twenty-five Y fi2gQ Q-E9,9 L0 AQQQQHGQ GZE . ' ' I .4 l THEA HUCKLEBERRY E556 ms .fm-1 gem 'U-C35 wr? My thoughts were returned to tl1e scenes of the happiest days of my life-those spent at Clinton High. As I gazed at the embers I saw a large auditorium crowded with people. A young lady appeared on the stage and began playing the piano. She turned her faee and I recognized Annie Gray Boney. When she had finished a brilliant looking young man eame forward to give a leeture. Who could he be ?-Oh! yes, this was Osborne Dunn. Next I saw a traffic cop on a busy street in New York helping a young lady across the street. As they looked up I recognized Mildred Kennedy and Dallie Barefoot. The embers had caught up and were burning brightly. In this light I saw a room decorated with birds and flowers. A girl with long curls was talking to a group of happy kindergartners. Looking on the blackboard I saw the teaeher's name written there-Miss Marcella Deal. Wllalt was this? A school room in VVihnington, N. C. With a ruler in one hand and a book in another, there stood Eloise McArthur demanding order. Then I saw a door in a huge building. Over the door was a sign which read Beauty Parlor. While I stood wondering the door opened, and out stepped Bettie Herring. Indeed, fate was kind to me. As I waited I saw a building and read, John Hopkins. A long iiight of steps led to the main entrance. At thc top of the steps several nurses were talking. Among these I saw Annie Walton Westb1'ook, Floy Smith and Lizzie Mae Shipp. What was this? A movie! The Call of the Wild. Edna Lee Parker, the season's star, playing with Thomas Landon. A notice came before my eyes. It read Cartooning taught easily at home. Write at once for information. She looked as happy and gay as she did in her high school days. A copy of the Raleigh Times flashed before my eyes. A large headline dazzled me. Senator Allie Lee Graham leaves for Europe for two months. President Frank Kell and his private secretary Evangeline Hobbs leave on the same ship. I looked into a court room. A trial was going on. I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the platform. There stood the judge, Rufus Crumpler and a lawyer, Stuart Royal. The flames fliekered brightly then died low. Oh! what a beautiful room, and all those pretty dresses of all colors and designs. Who owned this beautiful department? Suddenly I saw a tag on the floor which read Madame Maria Hobbs, designer. Next I saw the Society Sheet of the State paper. I read, Miss Elizabeth Graham will ente1'tain next week in honor of a bride-elect, Miss Ma1'ia1111:1 Herring. The next scene was in New York. I saw a stage and on the stage was Alice Smith, an actress. She was singing Yes, sir, thatls my baby. A beautiful winding river loomed before me. A ear stood at the driveway, and there was a figure standing beside the car. From under a large hat peeped the smiling face of Bessie Mae Smith. A man-a tall handsome man-appeared at her side. He smiled and spoke and-they left. Wake up you sleepy head, and go to bed. You've been here for two hours nodding. I looked and saw my mother standing over me. t PETE BUTLER, Proplr ffl. The ability to weave the threads of imagination into the finished fabric is equally important. It has been the privilege of the EDWARDS G? BROUGHTON COMPANY to interpret the ideas of the Staff and create in material form their vision. I From the art vvork and engravings to the finished book, this volume 1S the result of organized cooperation with the Staff. Such able cooperation is one of the visions which precede the building of a successful business, and is a part of the working policy of the EDWARDS G39 BROUGHTON COMPANY. To those Staffs desiring complete cooperation from art Work and engravings to the finished book, We offer unexcelled service. Complete service means undivided responsibility as to the result--one organ- ization to correspond and talk with-one trained director to merge the many ingre- dients into the finished product.
