V 1,, . L , fr wir I , l 5, fw 491 fa fwf ff Af ff , f ae x J Sophomore attendant Junior attendant Cheryl Ellison Renee Gabriel A Royal Court . . . Gone was October f'Bright Bluev weather . . . it rained . . . and rained. Yet not even the dreary grayness of Friday, October 13, could stifle CHS spirit. In fact, the River King spirit must have overwhelmed all the traditional misfortunes of a 'fFriday the l3th,,, by noon, the sun had burst forth, shining brightly. Bright, also, were the stu- dents of CHS. The halls were crowded, swelling with excitement, and echoing with laughter, for it was Homecoming 1967. The beauty and formality of the Coronation came Thursday. Cer- tainly for some, that dream-come-true day would never be forgotten. Every students' face beamed with excitement as Cheryl Elleson, Renee Gabriel, and Jolene Anderson were seated as class attendants. Exchange student Alejandra Mastropietro was named as honorary at- tendant, and then Queen Ceci Hamilton was escorted before the audience. Cloaked in red velvet and bearing the trident, she was crowned Queen by Mr. Robert Fleischer. With a radiant smile, Queen Ceci then officially opened what promised to be a very memorable Homecoming. One cannot forget that day of Red and Black. Joining the exodus into Yourd Gym, one was quickly enveloped in tumultous roars as the zealous cheerleaders ignited the fire of spirit. The choir sang forth with enthusiasm, the team was introduced, the seniors won the sec- tion yell, and the Kings rescued coquettish Molly Purespirit from the villianous Hawks in the pep skit. As the last cheer echoed the band played Victory. Elate, all left the bleachers quickly, for it was time for the parade. All the long hard days of marching and practice, all the long cold evenings of napkins, paint, and wire paid off. A siren wailed, a beat was perpetuated, and one ofthe best parades in CHS history was un- derway. As the colorful floats and cardinal marchers passed, it seem- ed that all the events were also passing too quickly. 19 Honorary attendant Alejandra Mastropietro Senior attendant Jolene Anderson A radiant Queen Ceci surrounded by her royal court.

ga 1 W MINUTES I SECONDS HQME gvlsmin nnwN msn um The Little Hawks started out ahead, but as you can see, fell in the Home- coming contest. Mr. Huth became a cheerleader With the parade past, and the clean-up completed, all thoughts turned to the game. Iowa City was invading and it looked like a tough test for the Kings. Could they win? Could they make this a perfect conclusion to a perfect day? Win they did, as a rugged defense throt- tled Iowa City scoring bids and an offense capitalized on the breaks. Pandemonium reigned when the final gun showed a scoreboard lighted in the King's favor, 19-7. As the West Side Depot belted out the music, the CHS student body and grads enjoyed 'fYe Kings ofO1de. The CHS fans were up for the game as was the team. 20 ff ll QI
